Hello brawlers,
I'm sure you all are curious what we plan on doing once the DLC hits this Thursday.
We (the moderators and verifiers) discussed the DLC and this is what we plan on doing.
Arcade and ILs: We will add another patch subcategory that will either be labeled V06 or DLC, and we'll start fresh like we did for V05. Mania+ and the DLC characters will both be added as categories. Feel free to run these modes as soon as the DLC hits.
Note: We are not going to make a separate category for default moves and the new dlc attacks. The game has a lot of categories already and we think people who speedrun the game and not have the dlc will be a small % of people.
Mr X Nightmare Survival mode: We don't know how speedrunnable this mode is, if we can tack it on as a new difficulty, or if it needs a new page. We will have a better idea as the DLC is played more, so for now just enjoy the new DLC. We'll make a decision August 1 on what to do with the mode.
Also, we have two new verifiers to deal with the influx of new submissions. Welcome Badmoon and oDSFM!
You might notice there's a new subcategory in the SoR4 board, and the patches are split up.
V05 is the current balance patch and the default for both viewing and submissions.
V04 and below is any patch before the balance patch. We merged them all because there was no (noticeable) difference between the patches gameplay or time-wise
What does this change mean? You'll no longer see your run having a funky place when submitting for the new patch, and it's now easier to look at older patch runs.
We're still future-proofed for patches when new ones come out, we'll just have to add a new patch to the subcategory. This could potentially lead to a lot of patch sub-categories depending on how many big patches the game has, but that unfortunately might be unavoidable.
Hey everyone,
As I'm sure a lot of you know, the new balance patch is out (V05), and there are a lot of changes. So many changes that it's not fair to compare old patch runs to new patch runs. As a result, we're going to be setting the default patch to V05. What does this mean?

The board will look like it's been cleared out and only patch V05 will be displayed by default. However...
-
...The old patch runs still exist! You have to click on the filter button on the top and select any in the patch variable. You'll be able to see the runs from all the previous patches.
We were previously considering a category extension for the old patch, but the game will likely have future balance patches (and probably DLC), so this is a more future proof way of managing the board.
Also worth noting that you still may submit runs on older patches, just mark them as such. If you play on steam, you can backpatch. https://www.reddit.com/r/StreetsofRage/comments/ioa90w/psa_on_steam_you_can_go_back_to_the_previous/
I think the changes are an improvement because at least some of the characters are categories, but also a step back, especially to runners who want to play on normal, who now have invested time in a category that no longer exists and without warning.
I'm not sure why normal and hardest were cut as difficulties. Yes, I read the logic, but I don't see why the difficulties need to be cut. None of the difficulties were cut for Streets of Rage 2 and that board seems to be doing just fine. Normal still has some differences from Easy and Hard and Hardest has some differences from Hard and Mania so I don't see what's so bad about including them as difficulties. It's not the end of the world if some categories have 1 or 0 runners.
At least include normal difficulty because that was a difficulty people were actively running on before this sudden change. It is cruel to screw over some runners over a sudden leaderboard change that had no prior announcement.
Also, at the very least could the retro characters be extended to SoR1, SoR2, and SoR3? They're miscellaneous categories anyway so why not differentiate between the style of retro games. You could also make the characters subcategories since it's all hidden unless if you click misc. anyway.
tl;dr: This game is naturally going to have a lot of categories and I'd rather have messy leaderboards (and maybe extra mods) that include most people's tastes than making the leaderboard look clean for cleanliness sake and shut out people.
P.S. It's also misleading to solely make the default category any% and not specify whether it's story or arcade. Maybe make arcade a clickable categoryAlso, will ILs be a thing? Seem like they should since there's a stage select.
