Hi I don’t go here but someone suggested I start running this category (before it was removed) and I’d really like to! I have some feedback on the new proposed rules.

Please do not ban convection ovens. Instead please consider banning use of fan settings. My only oven is technically a convection oven but it also has heating element settings that can be used (I believe this is common in Europe?), and I would hate to be disqualified just because of the appliance my apartment came with. I’d be happy to verify my oven settings pre-run!

Baking powder can technically substitute baking soda, but the amount needed would make the cookie fairly bitter and unpleasant.

Allowed egg substitutes should be added to the ingredients list.

Are ingredients able to be used that are not on the list? Such as cornstarch, makes for a softer cookie but not necessary!

Echoing Vilzuh, I am also not able to easily buy chocolate chips and would need to use chopped chocolate. Not being allowed to pre-chop the chocolate would be an unfair built in timeloss. Pre-measuring in this case is not an issue, in my opinion, as many chocolate chip cookie recipes simply call for “one bag” (or two cups, which is equal to one bag) of chocolate chips, and I already know how many chocolate bars I need to replace that amount.

I am also pro melted butter! It just makes for a better cookie, and if I’m going to make these I’d really like to enjoy eating them! Please consider allowing the butter to be pre-melted and cooled.

I really like the wording of “reasonably look like cookies” and “as close to round as possible,” as you’re truly never going to be pulling 12 perfect circles out of the oven. Thank you!

It’s not clear to me what the rules imply, but the verification where the runner needs to lift the cookie should specifically take place after cooling. Even a fully baked cookie will crumble if picked up while too hot!

I’m not sure if this is a hot take but I honestly think pausing or stopping the time on oven entry could be a very good idea. Home ovens have differing top temperatures and someone with an oven that gets very hot would be at an inherent, unfair advantage.

Thank you for allowing feedback! I hope that I will be able to run this when it opens again!
