save states save the RNG/frame rule, everything at the point you make the save.
Just start running it seriously, and then they'll probs make a leaderboard for it. There is little incentive to make a leaderboard if no one is gonna run it.
If you're getting punched before you do your second punch, you are definitely waiting way too long. If you are unsure of the rhythm, just check out a video of someone hitting them and you will see they also arent random (it's exactly an 8 frame delay)
Also I guess its worth mentioning, just in case you are wasting a lot of damage, is to punch Tyson on the same side of the screen he throws his uppercut. This makes the first punch deal 5 damage instead of 1 (this is called a "Proper Punch"), but that is only a very minor thing that new people sometimes forget about. Proper Punching only applies to the first counter hit on Tysons uppercut and no where else in the game.
In theory, I like the idea and while Gold Punch-out is basically only MTPO up to Macho, it does have a couple of drawbacks. There are some minor gameplay differences, such as the star animations taking longer on Soda and Macho as well as Don 1 having a different timing to hit the frame perfect star and I believe Don 2 is missing the coveted low refill in phase 2.
Along with that, an official gold cart is absolutely not cheap and just running it on emulator also has the drawbacks of dealing with input lag, and running on powerpak or everdrive is also an option, but once again, not exactly cheap.
That all being said, there is nothing stopping anyone from just running the first 13 fights in the game without the need for an "official" leaderboard.
If you are having doubts about beating Tyson/Dream in round 1, I encourage you to stick with it and keep trying - If it is a notch you want to get on your belt, the practice and suffering that goes into it is absolutely worth it.
Good thinking MrDreemur, but Jdurg is correct. Although getting a star and using a star punch is 11ish frames faster in Real Time, it is faster for In-Game Time to dodge and stun him with rapid punches since these also slow the clock down.
Prolonging a fight to go for either a KO or TKO usually ends up reducing the skill needed and relevant RNG needed in comparison to whatever happens to be the normal fastest way.
Do you have video of the entire fight? Seems weird/interesting
I'm going to allow it for now, I haven't contacted Lucandor ye, but since this is an 'unofficial' game, I think playing on an android port of FCEUX is fine.
I assume you are allowing blocks.
Don 1 can be done in 1 dodge Bull 2 can be done dodgeless with TAS (basically you need insane luck to do it) Don 2 can be done dodgeless Sandman cant do dodgeless, dont have ways to damage him before round 3 and dont have enough health to last that long. Super Macho Man can - Tyson also cannot for similar reason as Sandman
edit: I think Bull 2 can be beat done more reasonably with not insane luck
yeah, if you guys think its best. I dont know much about other potential emulators, but if there are strange inaccuracies, best to ban it now rather than later I guess.
Hi,
I am a moderator of Phred's Cool Punch-Out 2 Turbo https://www.speedrun.com/pcpo2t/ and it should be listed as a ROM Hack of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!
Thanks!!
Please familiarize yourself with updated rules for both "Game Rules" and "Category Rules" - mainly concerning valid emulators/roms and removing ambiguity.
All existing verified runs will be 'grandfathered' in, so don't worry about past submissions.
Just gotta practice it. There isnt really another way to get consistent, just try to keep your second punch consistent relative to the first.
as of a rule change a few months ago, your submission video must include the previous reset or from power on - so your submission video would also include the Glass Joe fight.
This is so people do not submit IL's which may have been performed from a savestate.
@Jason_maxym - the rules clearly state the video must include the attempt from power on or reset. Please dont mislead new runners.
Pretty sure playing on the Switch would still be 60FPS even though you are in a "PAL" region since the switch is a much more modern console, but I could be wrong.
As for time keeping, a completed run can always be retimed later - blindfolded uses realtime so it would be from the Start Press on Glass Joe screen until the credits theme begins. Obviously you will also have to have a webcam to sufficiently prove you are blindfolded.
