No more need to spam everyone's tweets, just use this thread.

Resources: Combat FAQ: http://www.gamefaqs.com/n64/198386-quest-64/faqs/66316 Too hard Spirit Dupe route (assumes 4): http://pastebin.com/hL7Z6U1E Old US version route: http://pastebin.com/MFhCKP4Z Stats notes: http://pastebin.com/cYADBhXS

 • Compression is fire level 19 to enable out of bounds.

 • Exit is water level 19 to enable spirit duping

 • If you are not doing save corruption, you need at least 7 water for healing to progress without dying.

 • At least 8-10 water is preferable because of the massive HP gain on heals.

 • Vampire's touch is fire level 32. Vampire's Touch heals (club damage + 7) / 4 rounded down.

 • A spirit light route could MAYBE do 50 Earth 19 Fire. I'm not sure what the side effects are. Getting 24 19 by Zelse would be tricky if 2 Cull Hazard spirits were skipped with no duping.

Fire Ball LV3 is fire level 16

Solvaring Options: 15 Water 12 Wind (breadless) 16 Fire

Zelse Options: 24 Earth ?? Fire ?? Water + Spirit lights

Nepty Options: 36 Earth ?? Fire + Spirit Lights

Shilf Options: 36 Earth ??

Guilty:

 • You need 32+ Defense to survive two close hits, which is 834 hits taken, which is about 360 more hits than i took in my run.
 • 360 hits takes about 350 seconds or almost 6 minutes on blood jells. Skelebats might be slightly less.

Beigis: ??

Mammon:

 • Avalanche speeds this up a ton.

Out of Bounds:

 • I only tested a few things.
 • I got OoB off the magma fish looking enemy in Boil Hole.
 • Going OoB in Boil Hole saves literally like 12 minutes and skips Fargo.
 • I could not manage to get OoB off any of the enemies in Baragoon Tunnel.

More early Spirits:

 • It may be possible to cram duping/collecting spirits between Solvaring and Zelse to get 24-19-19 by Zelse for an OoB in Cull Hazard?
 • List: Larapool Inn early, All Glencoe, possibly 1 after Solvaring with a modified exp route, All West Carmagh, All Windward Forest, others?

Other:

 • I'll probably start by trimming down the Spirit Dupe route to 3 per dupe and then using that as a baseline for the OoB routing.
 • Since Water and Fire are equivalent, an easy mode route for now would be 25 water, 50 earth, 19 fire, then OoB in boil hole.

Questions:

 • How many spirit lights does save corruption give you?
 • If you corrupt over the Earth Orb, does it mess up the boat to Limelin?
 • Which areas can we OoB in reliably? Cull Hazard and Blue Cave would save a lot of time.
 • Are there any areas OoB on the same map like the Fairy Fountains in Zelda Majora's Mask?

I had added SilenceErupts as a series moderator to add the other two games in the series upon request.

He opted to change timing on one of the games or something, and probably should've reached out to the moderator through additional mediums to discuss that change, but I somehow doubt that would've solved the problem in this case.

That sequence of events probably could have happened a bit more formally, but the resulting attitude given was in my opinion out of line, and the site really cannot functionally have moderators acting like that or things do not work. I removed the other series moderator.

This game seems to be like 10 button presses, it seems like serious business.

I went to move "Star Wars" to "Minecraft Star Wars", because it conflicts in the search bar with actual Star Wars. The bugged out the leaderboard for it due to an apparent issue with renaming ROM Hacks. The data is still there if we reattach it, but please DO NOT edit anything with that particular hack or add the game again until it is fixed.

EDIT: You can now change your username or delete your account by yourself, in "Settings".

This is the thread to request them. Admins handle these currently. They are processed in forum post order, typically about once a week.

Note: It is much easier to change your account name than it is to move your stuff to a new account after you create it.

Names are case sensitive. Spaces aren't allowed. Maximum is 20 characters. Accepts letters, digits, extended Latin letters, dashes, periods or underscores, without spaces.

Usernames of other users whose names are wanted won't be deleted unless the account has no posts/runs and has been inactive for over a year.

Side note: If you're confused on your next login after posting here, it's probably because your name was changed.

This isn't meant to be used regularly, we're not going to change your name every other day for you.

Deletion requests can also be handled privately through my Twitch PMs. The Twitch account PMing MUST be the same Twitch account linked to your account here at the site.

I was editing things to see what was up with the platform bug on ROM hacks someone pointed out a while ago, and it seems there's a glitch in the site with ROM hacks.

We'll try to get this restored as it was, please don't touch it in the meantime.

These are broken, please don't edit them right now. http://www.speedrun.com/sm74ee/ http://www.speedrun.com/sm74

Note: Please don't make any radical changes to the layout until we get this sorted out.

Reason for this discussion: Skull asked via the appropriate channel to make him a moderator because he wants to track mirror mode and the game's moderators shot him down. I was a little quick in making the decision to add him to let him implement the changes, so let's chat.

I added the series moderators to this game and we'll consider any changes to the way moderation currently sits after some general consensus.
I am also concerned, although to a lesser degree, by how kirkq handled this request. From the information available to me in this thread, it doesn’t seem that kirkq was aware of the thread in the MKDD forum, and, as far as I can tell, made no attempt at finding any information about this situation other than what was provided by Skull64’s posts. Please correct me if I am mistaken.
I handle a fair amount of these requests in a given week, so I probably did not give this issue the level of attention necessary.

I do not commonly check the game forums, as most of the time people aren't using them, so I have not developed a habit of doing so. In reviewing moderation requests I commonly reference whether or not the moderators have a run in the game. None of the previous moderators for this game currently have a run for this game. The person requesting moderator status actively runs this game.

Due to the way things are oriented in series on the site, many times users get control of a game they don't play because it happens to be in a series with a game they do play, and they do not give it the level of attention necessary.

I am not saying these things apply directly here, but it's the general thought process I go through when people request changes.
I think it’s necessary for me to bring this up here, because this is the second time that an admin grants MKDD moderator status with seemingly minimal thought to someone whose immediate response is to rescind series moderators’ access to MKDD in order to impose their vision of an improved leaderboard (said vision was different in the first case).
I am either unaware of or do not recall the first time this happened.

We've been getting a lot of requests for Alpha/Beta builds of games recently.

Best example at the moment: http://www.speedrun.com/ahitab http://www.speedrun.com/ahitbb

My concerns: A: I think it is desirable to support Alpha/Beta builds short term B: I think it is desirable to not clutter games with Alpha/Beta categories/variables long term. C: I don't like removing good information.

My suggestion (after consulting with some of the other mods) to remedy this is to "Archive" certain games/game builds. Archiving would basically remove them from normal searches and hopefully attach them as legacy information to the current game.

There are not currently short term plans to implement this in the very near future, I just wanted to get the thought out there and see if anyone had better suggestions.

For now we may have these copies of games, but just be aware there is reason to it and thought to remedy it eventually. Creating the separate game is the short term solution that aligns most with long term solutions I feel.

In addition to many things we've been looking to improve on our own to-do list, many users have reported bugs and feature requests this week. We've fixed many of the more glaring issues, but there are still some outstanding. I'll look to keep this thread updated in tracking some of the more recent issues.

If you have anything else to add, feel free to list it here. Again, potential security issues should go through Pac ( pac413 ɑt gmail.com )

Higher priority:

 • ~~Guides now save, but they save as a new guide instead of overwriting the old one. ~~
 • ~~Matching a run with a username doesn't work anymore. It works for a moment, but when you visit the page again, it stays unmatched. ~~

Medium priority:

 • Forums: Threads writeable after deletion, deletion doesn't remove from forum, negative post count when posts removed, deleting the last message of a thread redirects weird. Every forum is labelled as having new posts.
 • Variables issue: http://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/uonbx

Simple feature requests:

Bigger projects/Longer term stuff (Lots to do before then):

 • Timer Update
 • Private Messages
 • Site navigation reorganzation and better scaleability for small browsers/mobile
 • Forum reorganization
 • Category Flexibility changes

I think IL leaderboards are fixed? Let us know if they're not.

Here's a link to the TAS:

Game mods, feel free to link TASes in the forums and the resources. We may look into a better place for them in the future, but putting them on the main leaderboards alongside console runs is potentially confusing to users.

My personal thoughts:

I think the general idea of having custom themes to give communities a more personal feel can offer some level of benefit. I think it also introduces many moderation concerns and sometimes causes pages to be of low visual quality.

Functionality: 1: Upload box art

 • This is basic functionality. 2: Custom table colors
 • Interferes with username colors quite often. 3: Custom text color for categories/sidebar
 • Does this offer major benefit? 4: Customize Speedrun.com logo 5: Custom background
 • Gives page a visual association with the game. 6: Possibly custom trophies in the future.
 • Can be cool.

Moderation Options: 1: No themes 2: All themes must be approved by a full moderator or above (~8 people currently can perform general site moderation) 3: Full moderators adjust games as they see necessary

In the most generic sense, I think if we choose to support themes, they should at least follow some basic guidelines.

General theme guidelines:

 • Should improve the quality of the board for the general public.
 • Should make sense associated with the game for the average user.
 • The main focus of the page is the data. The theme should not detract from that.

While the site currently has issues on mobile, in the long term we'd naturally like for it to be usable in this manner. This creates a need to limit higher intensity issues on the page.

High intensity features: 1: Animated images 2: High resolution/large files 3: Scrolling

Scrolling may or may not be okay, not sure how intensive it is.

I can offer discussion of an option to maintain these items whereby users must opt-in, but I think it is not worth the hassle to maintain these high intensity features. If it's off by default is it really worth moderating?

I don't really like the transparent tables over images. It makes things hard to read. I would probably recommend making all tables with images behind them solid, personally.

I expect that the disable themes option will be available for users to remove colors and images regardless. My personal minimalist approach would be an approved medium resolution non-animated background with no transparency in the table and approved trophies only.

What functionality is good, what is bad and distracting? If there is good functionality, how should we moderate it?

Remember this is all as it pertains to the average user. If you personally dislike it, the option exists to remove it. If you feel that parts of it detract more from the data than they improve the personal feel for each board, that is what I want to know.

(I might revise this a bit later, want to get discussion started though.)

Everything here pertains only to runs as shown on game leaderboard pages.

Moderator badges and Twitch icons are removed at the moment. They are currently replaced with flags.

1: Flags were requested as optional, which is probably good. Should flags be default on or off. (How should it display to a non-registered or newly registered user?)

2: Do people want an option to re-enable moderator badges and Twitch icons? It would be off by default.

3: As a separate question: In the future would people like to see game region flags as text (US, J.P, PAL) or have them kept as the images they currently are.

This goal of this thread is to collect feedback on how to organize times with videos, times without videos, and possibly unsanctioned personal bests moving forward. For now, things will remain largely as they are regarding this. More discussion will be helpful in making plans to improve the site. Some of this was briefly discussed in another thread, but I would like to emphasize some ideas and issues for discussion.

Runs can be mostly divided into 3 different types of data: Case 1: Times with videos Case 2: Community sanctioned times (on leaderboards) with no videos Case 3: Unsanctioned personal best times (not on leaderboards) with no videos

Case 1 is currently supported for all games. Case 2 is supported for games where moderators have chosen to support it. A checkbox was recently added for users to filter to Case 1 “Videos only” Case 3 is not currently supported by the site.

Case 1: Times with videos are available for public scrutiny and are largely verifiable. Some games only currently support Case 1. speedrun.com currently allows individual communities to choose whether or not videos are required, which creates some inconsistency between games, which can be okay.

Case 2: Many communities have chosen to support times without videos. Some communities outside of speedrun.com enforce a threshold beyond which a video is required, which could also be an option implemented here. From a moderation standpoint it can be difficult to handle issues relating to this type of data set, so some communities choose not to support it. Lack of transparency of top times was a frequent issue at a previous record tracking site, and the general accuracy of the data was frequently questioned. It seems that this data is still something people want as an option for moderators to choose to support. Being able to sort to only videos helps users to get to the data set they want to look at.

Case 3: To what extent do the users want to use this site for tracking personal bests? As it currently stands, a user cannot track a personal best with no video for games where video is required. Is this something we want to support? It could possibly be implemented as a separate data set only associated with the user, and one idea might be a freeform data set with little to no moderation.

Should we look to support a data set of less moderated times specific to each user that are not featured on the main leaderboards? If this is something we should do, are there better ways to offer this functionality? Is this something the users want the site to handle, or is it out of scope?
