World gen got removed from timing last year. I think modifying the world past the simple choices could give you a huge advantage, and while on one hand it's fair given everyone has access to those, I worry it would move the competition of the run away from the actual playthough and onto setting choices. While there is defeintly work to optimize all that, in my mind it goes against the idea of speedrunning.
Here are my thoughts on each of those:
- I'm not sure of the advantages, but I would say no
- Maybe if you also timed the previous fort, but otherwise I would say no.
- Not sure of the advantage of that TBH
Oh, not world generation, since that requires no extra setup. In other words, there is no default world size.
In short, yes. Stock (I'm pretty sure) refers to the game exactly as it is downloaded.
So far as I know, there is not a preexisting Discord server, at least not one that is wide spread. As for your second question, I see no reason why you couldn't, the only question is would it be official. Personally, I would probably love to join such a server.
Yeah. I'm excited for when other people come back with the new rules. I'll probably be beat, but thats the point. Still, it was nice to have it for a time.
Yeah. You can't expel the expedition leader due to him being the one that expels. You fist have to remove him from office, then pause before he's relected.
I think I know what you mean, but I have to make sure. Is the "Okay" you are referring to the one before choosing world parameters, the one before choosing embark location, or the one after embark?
You make some good points, undefined24. I suppose it would invalidate most other peoples runs. Looking at the settings I see some things that would change a lot, like moods and default embark size, and many that don't, such as window size and music. I myself changed the window size to shrink my mouse movements. I certainly agree on the concept of downloading each time, that just sounds like a lot of work, especially for the shorter runs.
I'll admit I'm biased when it comes to embark profiles, but for me "Stock" means it's right out of the box, so that it would be the same result as if you were to download it, extract it from the zip, turn FPS on, then speedrun it. On a related note, I'd like some clarification with the use of exploits and glitches (EX: Water reactors or atom smashers) in the vanilla game.
