Found this about an hour ago, maybe it works from more than 1 pixel position but its fairly simple.

Your method is really good though, I've tried it a couple times and it gives you way more time to get on the right pixel before tails catches up so its definitely way easier! Good stuff

you can achieve the same effect by doing a low + late jump over the badnik so that tails gets hit , he will do the same thing only this time you don't spend time getting damaged :) It's done in this run, timestamp 15:07
