My story is the same as KumaKhan22, actually. A friend linked me to it sometime last week and I just loved it. I'm glad to see things are active.
I completely agree, polsvoice. It seems like the old version should deprecated and moved into its own separate category since it's not applicable anymore.
I've been enjoying this one recently and think it would be fun to see some other runs and get the boards active, especially since it seems like there's a decent little following in the woodworks already.
I'm pretty new to the speedrun community, so I'm not really sure how it all works. If deemed necessary, does anyone know how we would we go about getting a new mod assigned, etc?
Hello. I just discovered this game recently and really enjoy it, so I was looking to run it. When I checked the current record, I noticed a couple things that might make it literally impossible to match or exceed that record.
- The version being used at that time did NOT have cut scenes between stages. In the current version of the game (found at https://greatgatsbygame.com/), there are un-skippable cut scenes, which add time to the run and can't be avoided.
Since the current version of the game is fundamentally different from the current recorded run, it's literally impossible to get as quick of a time, so that record can never be broken.
- The current record was played using the web version of the game, not through an emulator. I don't think this is an issue, but since there's a PC option when submitting runs, I'm wondering if that should be listed as a PC run vs a NES run. From what I understand, the site is running a nes emulator in that frame in-browser, so in theory it's probably the same as running it on a stand alone emulator, but it's something I noticed in the video, so wanted to check on that too. Mainly what the difference is between the NES and PC versions listed in the submission form.
My question is, what should be done to differentiate runs from different versions of the game? Since the old version is no longer available, new runners can't compete.
- Should there be a new category for the new version with cut scenes?
- Should the current record be re-run with the new version of the game for a fair and level play field?
I'm not sure, so I wanted to reach out and see what your thoughts are.
Cheers, grescokit
