Theories for timing on picking up cornbread. Timing done without skipping cutscenes, meant for any% no escape. Cornbread allows you to skip picking up a gold leaf + visiting oil/potter vendors.
It takes about 6:38 from the time you stop speaking to the Farmboy in El Dorado to picking up artifact if you get cornbread, which is this route:
After talking to farmboy, you go back with the talisman, stick it in pool to drain and then put in the four parrot head codes. Go back and get the cornbread and then back across again to put in the regular code for the artifact doorway.
So, how long does it take from the ferry ride to the temple and then to the potter and then back to the temple again + talking with everyone you need to inbetween.
It takes about 8 minutes approximately just to get that done. So, in any% no escape, it makes sense to pick up the cornbread. You avoid having to do the extra ferry ride cutscene.
Overall, I do think the cornbread is faster for the speedrun, at least for the any % no escape and possibly for the any%, though I currently don't have the skills to test that.
I studied the WR holder video for all flags fairly extensively when I was looking over the route and I followed the guide that's in the google docs resources (which is still there). I had some thoughts about a (miniscule) reroute for Plum Park, but it was very small and I discussed with him on discord about why he did it a certain way, but he couldn't remember specifically why he did a certain route. I ended up going north at the blooper bridge (vs him getting off the bucket in front of the two smaller lilypads and walked across the leaping big pad to get to the last colourless spot in the purified section) but didn't time it, I think that's the only main deviation I made from the route (aside from mistakes of course).
Unfortunately, I looked through all my videos and do not have it downloaded, but if you want to ask me questions, I can try and help where I can. The route in google docs should be the one he used and it really comes down to tight time management and not many mistakes. I don't plan to do another run, the 11 hours really took it out of me, but it was fun to learn.
