Check the Resources section as well, https://www.speedrun.com/zelda_ii_the_adventure_of_link/resources
Unfortunately, there's no single any% tutorial about the current route. An any% run is conglomeration of almost known z2 glitches and previous any% routes:
-
Basically, the healer glitch does some variation of the "scroll lock" glitch, where if you want to exit right in a side-scroll room, you have to scroll the room a little bit then exit left or just keep walking right. If you want to exit left, just exit left. In a palace, while scroll-locked, in a room with an elevator, to exit down, scroll the room right, then exit left. Or you can just go down the elevator.
-
There's also the 'link feet' screen wrap used in the overworld, reminiscent of the zelda 1 screen wrap so one can exit a room faster.
-
Finally, there's the HUD screen fairy warp to skip Thunderbird to get to Dark Link in the Great Palace. Fairy warp has been known since game came out but it's used here to skip Thunderbird.
In short, all those things are what makes the routing for any% possible.
Here's a really old any% tutorial using one of the very first routes
Here's a commentated run, precursor to the current route,
There can be. But we really only create a leaderboard for a category if there are a minimum of 2player/people or 2 submissions for it.
No turbo usage with those that have that in their controllers. Emulators are allowed. Nestopia and FCEUX are recommended. If you're already using another emulator, then please use Nestopia/FCEUX instead, thanks. Please put in the comment section of the submission the version of emulator and which emulator you used. WE REQUIRE FOR INPUT DISPLAYS TO BE SHOWING IF YOU ARE ON EMULATORS!

WARNING: If you submit a WR time on emulator, your submission will be investigated with extreme prejudice and suspicion. Furthermore, on moderator's prerogative, you will be asked to do a live stream of the game with a webcam aimed at your hands on the controller while doing attempts/runs of the category and/or convincingly demonstrate your gameplay skills before your submission can be approved.
it's used in categories where you don't need to get everything, mostly in "Any%" categories. it's a super old speed tech, probably known since the game came out.
At this time, we don't have set rules for any Individual Dungeon runs, so boards for it will not be created for now.
There's already a first palace dungeon board over here though, https://www.speedrun.com/zelda2ce#Horsehead_Schmidtty
But the rules for that board is just to beat the boss, glitchless.
Platform Requests (obscure or not): Analogue Nt Analogue Nt Mini Analogue Nt Mini Noir ^ These 3 should be separate because of different internal hardware. Analogue Pocket Analogue Super Nt Analogue Mega Sg RetroUSB AVS
Thanks for your consideration.
If you fail the healer glitch, you'll need to "reset" it either by entering the house to the right and trying again or exiting the town and trying again.
Not sure about that "sticking her hand out" animation. I never used that visual cue for the 2nd dialog box. I use her skirt near the ground before it reaches the door.
There are only about 3 or 4 active glitched runners. I'll let them know to comment on here.
The route for Any%, since it's so short, you can just watch a run. For the glitch itself, this is the only guide that we use, http://redcandle.us/Zelda_II:_The_Adventure_of_Link/The_Healer_Glitch
You can also watch RBO, NG+ runs to see the glitch in action. There are the "No Healer Glitch" categories here, https://www.speedrun.com/zelda2ce which means it just lets you in to Glitch Town via Darunia town instead of performing the Ruto town Healer glitch.
I had to message the moderator to create the "Any%" board.
I was playing around with this today using your jump extension tech, but confirmed there's an invisible wall there before you get the Combat Cross. Just to test if that wall is there or not, after Combat Cross, you can get across that gap using your tech plus Quick Throw an axe (Y+B) then a mid-air Dash, confirmed wall is not there.
quick dash was actually found (by me) way back, when the HD version came out https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/727961-castlevania-lords-of-shadow-mirror-of-fate-hd/67863071
but that double-jump dash is fire, thanks.
