(Shrugs shoulders emoji) I think there is a slight difference for chamber 17 specifically, you're free to test it out. You might be absolutely right.
From what I've noticed, though, if you try to throw the cube up into the hallway towards the end of 17 on the current patch, it seems to shove it back towards you. Probably developers didn't want players to softlock themselves by stranding their cube. If that's a difference from the unpack, that might theoretically be causing a bit of the physics differences that make it more difficult to climb the cube stack.

I've noticed even in glitchless that there are some strats that don't work quite as well on the latest update. For instance climbing the cube + camera stack in chamber 17 is very difficult, for me nearly impossible on the first try. On the older version it's much easier.
