@eddiecatgaming @darG yeh I've lost the 8-3 fr in my last two runs by jumping early lmao. With optimal bbg and no other hard tricks, it's the only normal fr I can save, alongside a better 8-4 unfortunately. Makes the grind even more painful now

@mruns05 nothing wrong with learning those tricks, just keep in mind that the other ~4:45 of platforming in a 4:55 is equally important, and the hard tricks are much less impactful without the rest of the run pretty tight. Also just make sure you're having fun because this game, if learned in sequences/increasing difficulty of tricks, has so much to offer on the side not involving constant glitches and .35 timesaves

It isn't meant to sound tilted or anything, just seems like this leaderboard has turned into a classroom with too many students and not enough people willing to listen and learn from the teachers. Just a lot of strange questions/diversions when the resources are widely available for almost any question asked now.

and "wens 454"

@KilleDragon I understand that in theory, more mods=faster verification times, but 1. the mods' knowledge of the game and how to look at runs to ensure validity combined currently probably still exceeds what would be available if they added in 5-10 mods who don't know the ropes as well. More mods=harder to keep consistent communication, more variables/effect on who still does the work, etc and 2. Your place on a leaderboard shouldn't affect the goal you set for yourself. For example, if you got a 5:04 a week ago, you got it a week ago. Whether it is immediately verified and slapped on the leaderboard or not shouldn't have anything to do with your excitement to have reached a new goal and personal best. I think a lot of people get into this game with the idea of a wr, then quickly realize the meticulous work required. Therefore, there's a huge surge in category extensions, new requests, high volume of submissions in these categories, etc. Not aimed at anyone in particular, but unless you understand not only the game but the tools required for video verification/frame counting for all types of recordings/qualities, then let the mods do the work they do (and for free, as mentioned before).

@AR007 I was thinking this, I never run warpless but I could vaguely remember hitting the block directly above the last pirhana in 4-2 and seeing the screen stutter. Idk if you actually lose any frames going into the pipe, but in 2-j you typically don't want his x-position to move right any during the walljump bit so you can enter the warp zone pipe without waiting on the plant to load/lower. Would be cool to find a practical use for it, but it does seem kinda random in an RTA setting.

West Virginia, USAcaleb21125 years ago

Not complaining, but I've not been at it long, and bruh. People fail to realize that the mods who handle EVERYTHING on the verification end also have lives to live outside of framecounting 100 Mario runs a day. the obvious boom of any% runs should tell people that even with 100 mods, those who already do most of the work would continue to do so. Good luck, y'all. Hopefully it gets under some kinda control.

If I'm not mistaken, this happens near exit pipes/passable walls. It's something you try to avoid in SMB2-J when performing the 1-2 wall jump

@eddiecatgaming, exactly my thoughts. as you get more comfortable with/understand precise inputs, it's not the worst thing you could do to try it. an impromptu fpg has definitely kept me on pace in at least 5 runs outta 1-1 with a bad underground, and a few times in 4-1 (4:57 attempts, but still). Learning keeps you from burning out lolol

@NickySteingraber I'd check out the smb3 any% no wrong warp Arcus posted on YouTube somewhat recently, he uses some interesting and slightly easier-looking strats for the w8 levels and still gets a pretty decent time!

A lot of runs are recorded at 30fps. Use this if you have a way of telling how many frames your run is at 30 fps and use the frame counter, or if you have a general idea of how long your run is you can put it in/your time offset and go from there until you match up the hammer pattern! I'm not great with this site but plenty of people could explain it a little better. https://somewes.com/frame-count/

at this point I'm convinced that a sub-8 2J time is more likely than 457 for me, so I'm gonna healthily grind both like I did when I first learned 2J. Also Super Metroid KPDR sub hour is 3rd on the list. Wolverine NES and a few other NES platformers top 5/wr in mind, but we'll see. Warpless sub-20 but I'll get to that once I'm cool with my any% time. would like to learn SM64 16 Star/SMW 11 exit/SMB3 NWW

Gg aldyn, you were one of my lesser-known (no offense by that pls) favorites to watch when I started running.

I started submitting cellphone videos on a modded wii, first run was a 5:55 with a bbg in it. This was February.

Got sub 5 in September (4:59 twice now, mini pb last month) and wr in 10 walljumps. Pretty proud of both although 10wj is meme. Still grinding for 4:57, I now have 5+ runs a day on pace to the bullet shot. Just gotta do it lol

@ltkuchu oddly serious response here, but I have 3 different smb1 carts and the triple cart actually allows you to reset the NES and still use the continue code (if you've game overed and used the continue code once already). I used to use it to practice 4-1 fpg, since I could just reset instead of getting a game over in 4-2

When I first started learning any%, I used to get it on 3ds vc a lot, thought it was an emulator problem lolol. Neat to see!

@NickySteingraber ahhh, well I imagine. But for tas 10 walljumps would be faster without the need to go underground lol

@Nicky theoretically yes, but I've ever only pulled a double wj off across from the pipe like twice on accident. I've never tried this with the pellson rom but I have the best luck with hitting wj pixel on the higher part of the wall

There was a human theory tas somewhere, I was practicing strats based on it. I'd say for RTA, the best possible route would be a head-on jump off all 4 pipes and nail 6 underground. I think it would be somewhere around 22 seconds? Idk

I believe I just beat RTA wr by 3.7ish seconds
