Tiny real time fix: 18:51 was actually 18:50

Netherlandsboltgolt2 years ago

Good one! For the Hard category the rules state that "The level select screen must be shown before the run to verify the level is being played in hard.", keep that in mind. I know it also shows the difficulty at the end but that's the rule

I think you have the right idea for the real time: Start on the first frame of the black screen and stop the first frame "Operation completed" is shown. Your timer starts 4 frames late, but ends a little late too. Real time is exactly 04:40:850

Good first run, welcome!

I've changed the timing method to use the IGT everywhere now. I've also updated the rules for all levels but not for the full-game run. Do we simply add all IGTs together there?

I have explicitly put in the rules that it's the time on the score screen next to "Elapsed time >" that counts, not the time above the "Operation completed" popup. This is due some very supcom2 behavior that somehow seems to add +/- 1 frame of time to your total after clicking the "OK" button on the popup. As an example you can see in my tutorial run that the popup time is 08:16 but the end screen says 08:17:

I also like that this screen shows the played difficulty and some other info that would be nice to have in the video of every run.

Makes sense, i inherited this game on speedrun.com from the inactive original mod @Yue, and it was already timed in real time by then. @HUECTRUM also mentioned the same problem 2 years ago now but i never realized that the actual in-game events are differently timed between runs.

I think you and @Racerstorm are correct on this. I'll work towards changing the timing rules and adding in-game time to runs that currently do not have that listed. I'd like to still require players to also provide a real time if that's okay with everyone.

One problem that i don't really see a solution for is that players whose game runs slower have relatively more time to do things like setup build ques etc

Could not comment again on your previous run so posting it here: We can't really use in-game time as almost identical runs can have wildly different IGT while real-time is more consistent. Here's an example comparing your 1-6 run to the current number 2 run by Racerstorm:

FeH_FuRy_ReGoNe run: The first video frame with your IGT at 00:20 is at 22.06 seconds real-time. The first video frame with your IGT at 09:50 is at 609.74 seconds real-time. This means that your in-game clock has gone up by 09:30, but in real time that has taken 09:47. So a game-second takes 1.031 real-seconds for you.

Racerstorm run: The first video frame with their IGT at 00:20 is at 21.56 seconds real-time. The first video frame with their IGT at 09:50 is at 600.43 seconds real-time. This means that their in-game clock has gone up by 09:30, but in real time that has taken 09:38. So a game-second takes 1.015 real-seconds for them.

For the same amount of actual play time your in-game clocks are off by almost a full TEN SECONDS. Both your clocks are running too fast but at different incorrect speeds. Because of that there's only one way to keep the length of a second consistent, and that's real time.

I've simply used your YouTube videos to retime your runs, which is probably the easiest. If you right click on the player and select "Stats for nerds" you'll get the current frame time after the t: part and can use the , and . buttons on a QWERTY keyboard to move back and forth 1 frame.

Really good runs, i think you're 100% a speed runner now! Could you also time your runs? I've been adding the correct times to your runs manually before now.

The time that matters is the real-time between the last frame of "click anywhere to start" and the first frame of the "Operation Complete" popup.

Congrats on a new record! Please press "OK" on the mission completed prompt so that your in-game time is in the video too

It's my favorite game so I'm just happy you're giving it a try! Aside from using the enourmous amount of health the ACU has and running the game at 40 FPS I don't have many general recommendations, I'm sure you're looking at the current records for inspiration on a per-level basis

Please do press "OK" at the end so the in game time is in the video!

Very fast on the megaliths!

Great timing with Jaran telling you "A direct assault is a suicide mission" while you're directly teleporting into the base with only your ACU
