I may have made a mistake there -- watching your PB video is showing me that the loads are on par with the non-homebrewed systems. I don't know if that's because you don't have homebrew or if it's because cartridge.
physical vs. digital makes no difference, if it's homebrewed it loses time no matter what version of the game you're on or the system you're on.
Alright, I made a pastebin and added a link to it in the rules for every category: https://pastebin.com/fXM0sBEn
Yeah i never got a chance to explain it anywhere, so lemme do it now.
So, I homebrewed my 3ds recently, and when I went to do runs, I realized I was losing time to nothing. So I decided to investigate. Comparing my PB video to footage from the homebrewed ds, I was definitely losing time to loads. So I tested every load. I lost exactly 17 frames every time I entered a level or finished a level, and I lost exactly 4 frames every time I used a pipe or door or something else like that (the game runs at 60fps). Adding up every load in Any%, that equated to a consistent 13.05 seconds lost every run to nothing. So in the Discord we pretty much agreed that for homebrewed systems, we would allow load removal to make the times fair. In the whole experimentation, I got curious to see whether other things affected load times. So I tested them. Comparing one of my old runs on the new3ds to my 27:24 on old3ds, it lost no time to loads. Comparing eddaket's run on cartridge to my 27:24 on digital, no time was lost to loads. That also proved no time was lost to loads just based on different systems (like different wiis for NSMBW). So I concluded that time is only lost to loads when the 3ds used is homebrewed, the term "homebrewed" meaning the system has arm9loaderhax and luma3ds installed, and is running on a separate emuNAND (it's complicated I know).
Hopefully that wasn't too confusing and it cleared things up.
USB loads are generally banned because of drastically lower loads, and the fact that it's not official
I agree with Green here. If you're so pissed about slower loads, how about you just play on an official console instead of complain about it here? It's easier on all of us and causes less problems.
that's why you watch other people run it first
that's a thing that will always happen if you don't save/reset after 7-Castle
you can beat the game without a single treasure using day 1 extinction, but it would take hours upon hours upon hours, since you can get maximum 22 pokos per trip. one person has done it, it took them 16 in-game days, and keep in mind each visit is like 3 minutes and doesn't let time pass. you can visit the cave a good 30 times in a day. do the math. nobody wants to do this.
to save you doing math, it takes 455 trips to the cave. each trip is about 3 minutes, and it takes about 30 seconds to walk to the cave. add the 10 minutes of setup before entering the cave, and you have a grand total of... 1602 minutes. almost 27 hours.
This effort you guys have to put into this because of twitch name changes is huge, and you're doing a great job at it!
I would love for you to change my name to EeveeSRL
Sun/Moon have noticeably more lag in certain areas of the game on old3ds than new3ds, seen just by looking at the times for each. Gen 6 doesn't have this lag problem, so they aren't split. The New3DS family (new3ds, new3dsxl) has better hardware than the old 3ds family (3ds, 3dsxl, 2ds) and can handle much more in terms of graphics quality and stuff like that. Sun/Moon weren't really designed for the old family, but are still compatible. Those were just the consequences of that.
he does this all the time, give it a week or so, i bet he'll at least be in a better state.
I learned the hard way... he did it once and i got paranoid and forgot to turn my stream off while i tried doxxing him so i could contact him, then bouncey came in and was like "are you fucking crazy? he does this all the time" and i was like "oh"
that's already a thing
it only works on 1.0
I'm not a mod, but I'm pretty sure the reason emulators are banned is because the game emulates very badly :/ The framerate is always all over the place, and there's decent input lag. I'm not one to prevent you from trying though! Go for it!
76 endings pls, you know the drill http://tinyurl.com/76endings
Adding more strict video requirements: In Any%, times below 27:30 now require video. In Warpless, times below 49:30 require video. In all other categories, top 3 runs require video.
Any pre-existing runs that would violate this rule will not be affected, but all future runs submitted will be.
You can get a decent time, but Emperor Bulblax is so easy anyway. Nothing like the first game. Just take about 15 purples, and throw them all at it so it wakes up, and then it'll pretty much die immediately.
yeah to clarify there's a discord now: https://discord.gg/VdQGMVJ it's been there for quite awhile and if you're not in it you're missing out
