Just wanted to say that I really like how you implemented the new feature to enlarge embedded videos. It's not the default option because that would be terrible for moderating purposes, but still easily accessible in case you want to use it. It also looks really good in general.
It's been a while since the last time I was able to load the games page without almost freezing my browser, good job there.
I can't say the same for replacing a system with pages with the "load more" design. I absolutely hate that practice on any site, I hope you rethink that one.
Small text, low contrast, the classic combination that makes websites less comfortable to use. When will this trend ever die?
There are so many features still missing from this site, after years of requests. I hope you take a look at some of them, now that you got done replacing a perfectly fine design with a worse one.
So you did it, you are now forcing one central theme on everyone, no matter how much time some communities put into designing their leaderboards. You knew people would hate that decision, but you did it anyway, just like all the other websites with their unpopular redesigns.
I spent a few seconds in the settings to disable the new layout, thanks for giving me that option.
Edit: I take that back, now the new one is forced on me.

SKIP DEFINITION
- A strategy is a skip if it REDUCES DISTANCE TRAVELLED by any one of the following methods:
- a. Going out of bounds (oob), which is defined by initiating the game's internal oob timer. An oob region does not count if it is unavoidable or part of the track spline.
- b. Clipping through a wall or object that has collision (from any direction).
- c. Triggering a lap some place other than the start-finish line.
- A strategy may also be deemed a skip if it REDUCES DISTANCE TRAVELLED and is judged to be a skip using the following principles:
- a. These factors contribute to the strategy being a skip: -- i. Cutting a significant portion of the track. -- ii. Wall riding, extreme climbing, or bouncing. -- iii. An unusual jump or another advanced trick. -- iv. Driving through a visible texture (without collision). -- v. The route is very different from the track spline (in distance or shape). -- vi. Accessing an area that appears to not be developer-intended.
- b. These factors contribute to the strategy NOT being a skip: -- i. Offroad. -- ii. A jump that is directly accessible from the track spline. -- iii. It appears to be little more than a creative line or hidden shortcut. -- iv. The pod stays on flat or almost-flat ground. -- v. The route is similar to the track spline (in distance or shape). -- vi. Accessing the area or performing the strategy appears to be developer-intended.
- If a strategy requires triggering a Maximum Fall Glitch (MFG), or using the AI to load portions of track, then it is an MFG/AI skip.
- A strategy that enables a recovery from a mistake is not a skip, as long as it does not cut less distance than not making the mistake in the first place.
Rule (2) is judged on a case-by-case basis by the mod team. The mod team must make its decision based solely on how the strategy in question fits into the principles in Rule (2). Both the number of principles met, and the degree (or severity) to which they are met, matter. If a strategy is called into question, the mod team holds a vote. In the event of a tie, it is considered a skip. A previous decision can be changed with a two-thirds majority vote. All decisions must be logged and dated on the speedrun.com forum.
I'm happy with this solution. It separates the versions that have actual gameplay differences (JP, NA, PAL) and merges the versions that only have different screen transitions and lag (VC).
To calculate the total IGT, simply add together all the race times. Use the following method:
- Use the times displayed after the race, since only those will show the milliseconds.
- If you retry any races, you must add the IGT displayed at the time the game was paused. Since that time will not show milliseconds, just add a 0 (.25 -> .250)
- If your game crashed during a race, add the last time that was visible before the crash.
Yes, you can do that too.
Damage is applied when advancing in tournament mode, repeating races you've already won does nothing. I think there will never be damage when you don't crash and getting a higher rank after you beat a track at like 3rd also doesn't count, but I'm not 100% sure about that. There is no way to fix damaged parts after you beat all tracks.
The best way to deal with this is to only get as many upgrades on your playthrough as there are droids. I suggest going for top speed, acceleration and cooling. Once you are at 100%, you can use your prize money to buy the remaining parts.
Add it to Speedrun.com. Making a clear separation between highscores and speedruns on the same site is just a matter of design choices. I was always hoping to be able to implement highscores to leaderboards one day, it would be sad if that never happened.
And to those people who aren't interested in highscores: Just don't use that part of the site! You don't lose anything by highscores being a part of the site, but everyone interested in them gains something.
It's so early on that it doesn't matter that much, It's simple for mods to just move around runs if necessary. If the game ends up having almost no glitches and the very few existing ones get removed with patches, yeah, we could just get rid off the glitchless category and find some other solution. Maybe there is just one specific glitch that defines the run and we end up with a separate category that specifically bans that glitch. Or we just separate runs through the patch they were done on.
tl;dr: At this point, the best thing we can do is just wait in what direction speedrunning for this game goes and then organize the leaderboard accordingly.
I also noticed that the chat was really bad at times. There were insults towards the runners or the event itself, as well as things like nazi jokes (hahaha, so funny, because it's a German event, get it?). Mods were often not very present or they didn't seem to care. I don't want to read such things in a chat, so I eventually switched to the German restream.
It ends with the QTE. You can see the timing very well when watching some of the higher quality recordings by runners like Ragnell or Exe.
There should be no problem with HSV Adventure Racing, it's really just a PAL version with different cars, to my knowledge. I actually do own a European PAL version, but never bothered to test how it compares to NTSC. It could very well be the case that PAL isn't even slower in terms of ingame time, as seen in many other racing games.
Can you please update this with the pause lag fix? OoT is basically unplayable on emu without it.
Do whatever you want, there is no rule that says what country you have to select.
Otherwise, we wouldn't have as many North Korean runners ;)
I don't really understand why people can get this defensive for a group they're not even in, but that's just how it is. I think the extra icons make the site worse, but the majority apparently doesn't care and maybe even sees a benefit in them. Oh well, I'm not going to change anyone's mind here.
It's definitely a very small thing, but it is a privilege nonetheless. Anyone else has to make a donation to get an icon at all Why should Twitch partners get anything more than a default account without making a donation? Just by being a Twitch partner, you don't contribute towards speedrun.com any more than every other user that hasn't donated. And if you donated as a Twitch partner, you still haven't contributed more than every other user who has done the same thing.
Yes, this seems to be the case. I seem to be the only one who wants speedrun.com to be completely independent from Twitch. And the only one who considers it a problem that Twitch partners get more privileges on speedrun.com than even the users who donated money!
I can't force this site to become a better place, all I can do is giving advice how to achieve that goal.
