What should be the requirement: 0 stars, 1 star or 3 stars?
0 stars has the problem that it removes the uniqueness from slaloms, you just take every shortcut, miss every marker & get a very fast 8th place
But adding star requirements to championships can add some frustrating RNG. For example the fastest way through a championship could be 3 1st, 1 8th, which can be 2nd or 1st depending on how the other points are split between other racers (similarly 2 1st, 2 8th could be 3rd or 4th)
This also complicates whether elimination should be timed in championships, since it may be a tactical decision what position to get in an elimination round
Since I managed to get my Unicorn Base time (1:40) under its elimination time (1:45) I decided to see what would happen if I finished an Elimination race early. It turns out it ends immediately when you cross the finish line.
My Grindhouse time is also close (1:48), so I got in sight of the finish line. It does spawn, which suggests it works on courses with normal laps too.
Although I wasn't able to finish any others, the time trial times aren't far off. If whitehouse's skips work on legit versions of the game, then 3 are already reached & 5 are within 5s (only Tropico is out of range), it would only require a small improvement + slipstreaming behind the other racers.
Although this gets rid of the previous justification of excluding Elimination races (they always last the same amount of time) I still think they should be skipped because no precise timer is given when the map finishes, so we would have to count frames to determine the correct IGT.
The IL categories have alerted me to some version differences All versions other than PC are on version 1.3, which adds the Park Hills track & the Switchblade hydro jet Switchblade isn't much of a concern, it's a Manta with slightly more boost Park Hills is added to Regional Champs, Pro Am, World Cup, Ultimate Cup & All-Star Cup, and significantly changes those categories While technically these leaderboards can be filtered between different platforms as-is, splitting them into pre-1.3 & post-1.3 allows non-PC players to compete on either category
I think this should be a thing Pros: The only category that does Time to Shine (it's usually skipped because it's Freestyle) You get to run against your gold splits (knowing I'm 20s behind sum of best is much easier than adding up 1:XX.XX 7 times and trying to work out if that's good) No AI = more consistent (Your first corner is always going to be rubbish with AI in the way) Cons: Requires online connection Only I run it (more people than most categories)
