You're confusing Real Time - RTA - this is the one you measure yourself and IGT - In-Game-Time which appears on the win screen, not a big deal, just a reminder
Noita already has 22 categories counting seeded and random seed and this, coupled with the fact that there isn't all that many people actually speedrunning some of them (0 runs so far in NG+28 seeded, which has been out for a year and 2 runs in 33 orbs seeded, which has been a category for ~3,5 years and there's more examples) it's unreasonable to add even more. Unless a great many people gather and collectively demand it, I don't think we should add more categories. Maybe with time and an increase in popularity of speedrunning, but we're far from that.
The rules are clarified, indeed that could've been misinterpreted, apologies for that.
After lengthy discussions, we have decided to allow the "Acceleratium Starts Only" mod as an exception to the rule below.
Mods are allowed as long as they provide no gameplay advantage or disadvantage
The fatigue and annoyance with long sessions of repeatedly pressing New Game has led to a significant dissatisfaction with the act of speedrunning in Noita. Therefore, taking everything in this discussion into consideration, as well as the similitude of the present situation to many other games' speedrunner communities, a decision was made to allow the mod for use.
It will work as follows:
- It's allowed in every category.
- During the submission process you'll be prompted with the option of selecting a Yes/No answer to the usage of said mod, the default being "No".
- You will still need to show mods at some point in the submission.
- And finally, runs affected with this mod will share leaderboards with the old submissions. This may seem weird at first glance, however the game at the base is still the same, and the same results may be reached without it. Moreover, if, let's say we split the boards in half like we did with 1.0, it would simply result in a whole section of redundant submissions, as no sane individual will be playing without the mod from here on.
Happy speedrunning!
@Kermalis To respond, yes, there currently don't exist any measures against foul play aside from some surface-level ones such as showing mods menu after the game. These mods can easily be made to look as something allowed while not being such at all.
There was a lack of consensus reached as to what to do and how to implement the mod in question, if at all. Options that were considered: 1) Raw implementation as an allowed mod everywhere - which understandably caused some discord due to being quite impactful as well as previous notes about abuse. 2) As a FSR category/sub-category which would work like the 15/14/12 bosses division in the All bosses category, but ultimately none were implemented, due to aforementioned points. Many share the opinion of fatigue from constant resets and a world with some form of acceleration-only-start category/division or acceleration-less etc. could go a long way for the enjoyment of the people.
Seems like a fitting change. I'll make an unilaterally decision of implementing this as a requirement. Especially considering the 33orb category neccessitating it, while NG+28 currently not.
The rules have been updated as of 13th November 2024. They feature less arbitrary bans on certain strategies, clarifying some discrepancies and also making it more speedrunner-friendly. While they are longer than before I hope they are much more clear.
Other questions to the rest of the rules:
What is "rare" alchemy exactly? Does it only relate to Alchemic Precursor and Lively Concoction? Or are other liquids [diminution, healthium etc.] considered rare alchemy as well?
If stained by a forbidden liquid - ambrosia, invisiblium, lively concoction, healthium or under the effect of the protection of all from e.g. the sun quest is the run invalidated immediately? Even if the use was completely accidental? Or is the run allowed to continue regardless, even if no clear use was observed [hard to tell/moderate as even a periodical use of invisibility would in high likelihood affect enemy AI pathing, thought it is more obvious with ambrosia, as taking a hit would mean it was clearly used]
And in regards to the above mentioned rule, does the poly-portal trick for invulnerability apply? It should be assumed than any and all forms of invulnerability through glitches or game mechanics should fall under the same "No using invincibility to not take damage" umbrella and the rule should in my opinion be renamed to such.
No teleporting of any kind except the HM portal - does this also apply to the snowy depths eye puzzle, hourglass room or some new techniques of recoil/pull travel such as the hookbolt? The latter I'd assume no, since recoil was never banned to begin with, but the former two do. Albeit disappointingly, since the rule seems to have only intended to restrict movement, also caused things such as restricting other avenues of gameplay completely unrelated with movement.
Should the rules be systematically changed in order to encompass the newest strategies and metas? Some of the current rules do this, theme of which is being fairly outdated, and that, since then, in turn created new "strong" items/perks/spells for the category - see GC ban or precursor ban. Both are arbitrary, are just replaced by other popular means of damage/money gathering and to a person with no prior knowlege of the genesis of this category don't make sense. It was created as a commemoration of the first recorded hitless by McQueeb, at the time of which many things were different. These exclusions don't, in my personal opinion, create any semblance of, at the present day, rational balancing. Though my opinion is just one of many. Would like some insight on this one from others
The majority of the rules are quite clear aside of the part that pertains to the path. What is the "intended" gameplay path exactly? And intended to be played such by whom? Does the intent here is to not use the snowy depths drop or the lukki side biome? That would be the case most likely, as that would also skip zones [see the skip rule], while still being an intended way to travel [a free-to-access location, quite blatant and easy to notice]. Hardpossession here brings a good point of the holy mountain zone. Where does the intent lie? Can you dig through the holy mountain at all? If so, towards the collapse point? Around it? Digging out of the mountain isn't exactly intended per say, I would venture a guess to say the intended way is to go through the collapse point. Though, who knows. As a fan of grey line treading to gain as many advantages as possible within the confines of rules, not a fan of these particular ones. Big risk of abuse, lots of chances to off your run completely accidentaly. Hoping for some clarification.
You time the run from the moment the Noita logo screen goes black and end at the "Game Completed" (a small white message after winning), your submitted time was about 1,5 sec away which is close enough. For the future it would be appreciated if you put a visible timer somewhere on the screen, but is not required
Please tap ESC during your future runs at least once, the run looks fine otherwise.
You must hit the "ESC" key at least once during the run so it can be verified no unlisted mods have been used.
Sure, bosskiller in the no gold category will become more difficult to find but the hard cold truth is that the meta will still be cut any% - teleportitis without exceptions as the movement option, at least for WR. Nothing even comes close to the speed of it counting in the no gold factor.
As for the Pacifist, going away from any% similarities to freeze + BH seems fairly fine, that plus some kind of angry ghost BH + freeze field looks viable... On second thought he category seems promising
True pacifist% entails digging to the end room/going back up to the altar - neither of which look too interesting as speedrunning options. This can work with the "Almost a pacifist" achievement/trophy which demands you to kill nobody but kolmi. This way it'd be more clear and straightforward but still share the spirit of a pacifist category but also be easy to validate as killing anything would not make that trophy appear in the end room - parallel to hitless with the beard statue
So as you might have guessed, to actually make the mod do more than it's supposed to is akin to creating a whole new mod altogether. This doesn't look too abusable to me.
EDIT:I have also recently found out you can check your unlocks through noitool, you paste your flags folder into noitool.com and it shows you your unlocks. Potential new way to actually make sure of your unlocks which would allow to surely check seeds? (Probably known of already and for a reason not used)
So that is a valid concern with this type of modifiaction and I agree. What if people insert a seed in there somewhere they know or what if the acceleratium isn't the only modified thing. And I was afraid of that too, but this is the entire mod, the whole entirety of a single .lua file:
