There is a moderation issue with the overwatch category extensions. A month ago a new map was added to the game. I posted in the fourms trying to figure out how the category could be adjusted to take into account this new map. One month later, I contacted the head super mod directly. He responded initially, however after explaining the events, he has yet to respond or change anything. It has been about 5 weeks since the forum post and 5 days since personal contact and the issue has still yet to be fixed.

This is the forum post: https://www.speedrun.com/Overwatch_Category_Extensions/thread/qiybb

The main category of this game has also yet to be adjusted for the addition of the new hero on the Practice range category, however this was just added yesterday and this is less of an issue than the one that has been outstanding for over a month now. I'm not sure what to do or how this could be fixed, but this is clearly the result of a moderation issue and no one is even willing to discuss this with me at this point. I would be fine with being promoted to a moderator, however I am ambivalent as to what the solution is as long as it is fixed.

Is there a reason there are no categories for speedrunning greed mode? I don't see anything else on the forums about this and this surprises me seeing as this mode of play is parallel to the normal mode of play. I can do a run as an example, but I feel like this would be a nice addition to this game, if not as a normal category at least a miscellaneous one.

Honestly I don't have a problem with your runs. I'm new to this board and am really just trying to garner understanding for why the rules are the way they are. I believe all of your runs are legitimate and honestly more power to you for doing as well as you do. My main qualm is that the keyboard leaderboards have basically been reduced to pure rng due to the glitch I was able to easily replicate in which you hold down multiple keys at one. It's completely random and I was actually able to beat the wr for 512 out of literally nowhere. I just felt a little silly doing it since I have "asd" in one hand "left right down" in the other and am operating the mouse with my foot. In a way, I actually agree with what you are saying Frikkinfriks14. The fact that this is the most optimal way to play makes this, as a speed game, inherently not very challenging and heavily RNG based. That's why I run the touch screen version for the higher tiles. I actually had to grind and improve to beat the wr for the 2048 tile and I had a really good time doing it because I have always played this game on mobile until today. It wasn't until I realized just how broken the PC version is that I was left yearning for actual competition, because the current system favors blatant spam over actual execution. In my opinion that execution/spam barrier between the PC and mobile is why I think they should be separate categories. It's two very different ways of playing the same game and I just really wish that was accurately represented in the categories which, at least for misc categories, is not the case.

I don't think this game is stupid to speedrun at all and that attitude is why more people don't speed run in general. If there is a win condition, it is viable for speedrunning. I know that what's probably going to happen is I'm just going to have to deal with it, and I have no problem with that because, after all, it's not my call. I just wanted to give my 2 cents on this issue considering I am not the only person that thinks this is a problem. Also do you have a source for a keyboard working on the mobile? I just tried it on the official version of the game and it did not work at all on a moto z2 force with a usb-c to usb converter (keyboard worked on the home screen of my phone but did nothing in game). The mobile version definitely does not move faster. Just speaking from a physics perspective, the act of pushing a button takes less time than swiping a digitizer. So, other than your defamation of this game as a speed game and your flat out incorrect assertion that you can use a keyboard on mobile, what was the purpose for your comment? Just to tell me to get over it? The way I see it, being able to run touch screen on PC defeats the purpose of having 2 separate categories in the first place. That is what I was trying to convey in my previous post and I apologize if that was unclear.

There were about 4 other runs like this that got taken down because they didn't show touch. IMO this is a bit of an unfair advantage. I feel as if the differentiation should be between PC and mobile considering these versions are inherently different. There is no way to prove that JUST the touch screen is being used, especially with the way the touches are shown. There is a reason all of the keyboard runs are about 10x faster than the mobile and this is reflected even on the PC touch screen runs (albeit not quite to the same degree). That version can just handle inputs faster, to the point where there isn't really a point in differentiating the categories. If PC is the fastest for touch screen and keyboard, why would anyone want to run touch screen? It's like if I were to do a run of SSBB subspace emissary, but instead of using a gamecube controller there were two separate categories for gamecube controller and sideways wii remote. You could do it with a wii remote, but your ability to perform would be greatly hindered even though it is inherently the same game with the same mechanics. I believe the way the categories are now are the equivalent of comparing apples and oranges to someone with an allergy to apples; in that the orange is always the superior choice.

How about a genocide% where time starts when you reach 100 alive and healthy dwellers and time ends when they all die? This game definitely needs new categories and updates for platforms. This game is available on switch now, as well as ps4 and xbone I think.

This is a bit of a long shot, but would it be possible to add a mobile Sub-category? The glitch allowing people to quit out before actually finishing is Pc exclusive which inherently puts people on iOS and Android at a disadvantage. There is a reason that every single submitted run has been on Pc. Just an idea to give a little bit of life to an otherwise dead speed game. Also it'd be cool to get categories for %150 percent, since there are stages only accessible by beating the 3 hardest stages, and then playing from 60-120 seconds. Maybe IL high scores too for top times on the individual levels. This game is amazing and I believe it has more speed potential than is being exhibited currently. I'd love to see a rework of these leaderboards because I'd be all over it for some fresh categories. Let's give Terry some love.

I actually own a physical copy of the fan translation of this game. Is this allowed?

How can I put this delicately... I have at least two fingers. I can use those fingers simultaneously to swipe two directions at once. This is the same thing as pressing two keys at the same time. Granted it is a bit harder, but I still don't really understand why you don't get it.

On another note, how could I go about getting the ketchapp version approved for use in runs? Just start a new thread?

This moderation error was also made on the 64 category. Same user submitted a computer run to the touch screen board.

Was going through the leaderboards and it appears that a computer run was approved for the touch screen 128 category. The link follows:

I recommended something like this for the addition of Busan to the all maps but what if we found some way to calculate an average for the individual hero and just add that to the runs released before the addition of the hero. Find some time between the fastest possible time and a slow time. This would both keep from having to update the categories and encourage people who had previous runs to rerun to improve their times.

I think there are a lot of the wr runs that do this...

Ok, but here are some more facts:

I tested this glitch on both iOS and Android in the Ketchapp version of the game and the glitch appears to be version specific, as a double movement (while not relying no simultaneous inputs) allows blocks to be moved around twice before the new block(s) spawn. This glitch has existed on the mobile version of the game as long as I can remember (at least 3 years). This complicates things further, as breaking the category into glitched and glitchless would also isolate the mobile players since this glitch IS consistent across OS and device. Personally, I think that expecting someone to have a computer with an operating system that isn't free is a fair prerequisite for running a game. It's like trying to run Overwatch on OSx or having to buy a Japanese cart to compete with version or language differences. If the glitch is able to be replicated without specific hardware, it is just OS specific. The information you have found is useful in replication for sure, but in my eyes all you have really done is provide information on how to successfully perform this glitch, not given reason as to why it should be banned or is grounds for splitting the category.

so is the current 100% category supposed to be solo only, or can it be co-op? Should there be a separate category for co-op?

discussione: Overwatch
United StatesWind_ex6 years ago

Would it be possible to do what boards like castle crashers do and just make one separate board for all Co-op runs with any number of players from 2-6? To be honest there is only so much optimization that can be done against easy bots. I know it'd still be kinda a pain in the ass tho. Just a thought.

Solo ILs are fun and all, but I think there should be a subsection for co-op ILs. Would this be at all possible? The all maps category has both a solo and co-op leaderboard. I'm not sure exactly how the best way to implement that would be (since there can be 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 player co-op and that is bound to get tedious) but I still think it would be a neat addition.

I am just trying to offer an alternative to making more legacy categories for a game that is going to keep adding content. The PR is not really adjustable reliably, but the all maps is (largely because the maps are self contained whereas PR is not). I am really ambivalent as to what the solution is, I just think the solution of averaging would be easier than making 6 legacy categories for 3-4 runs.

United StatesWind_ex6 years ago

Well my reasoning is as follows: These category extensions do not have many runs. In addition to this, addition of a map is not really the same as addition of a character. In a run like the PR, while there is a theoretical minimum time, it is still largely based on skill and can't really be estimated due to the large amount of variation. With maps (especially KotH) there is a set minimum and the games will play out largely in the same way no matter what. I think antiquating runs would be a fine solution, but not the optimal one as far as keeping categories alive goes. I personally don't care what the solution is, I just think there needs to be one because, as it stands, two of the three runs are either incomplete or unadjusted. The adjustment would still give the current runs a chance to rerun and beat the adjusted time without just invalidating them or making all the legacy categories stupidly small or completely barren (as they now are).
