Simple reason why emulators are banned is due to inaccuracy of Xbox 360 emulation and also we would rather the runs be done on real hardware. Sorry.
So after watching where some runs start (In particular the WR run on N64) it seems like people are starting their runs on completely different parts, for example on my run and others we start upon clicking start for the Hot Wheels Cup whereas on other runs the timer starts when you hear "Go!" on the first race so where is the real starting point?
So recently I did a few runs of the NTSC version of the game and found I was quite a bit behind WR, however what mystifies me is the fact that my console run was a lot faster than my emu times I did and it got me thinking. What emulator settings are being used by some runners as I'm pretty sure overclocking or 2x read speed is being used to make the runs way faster than they should be?
OK so hear me out, You go through all the acts in the game with any unlocked vehicles. This'll be a quicker category than the normal Any% although by how much I've no idea.
Would be easier to do plus it would faster as mentioned, any thoughts on this? 🤔
There's quite a few options to choose from, you can record the screen using a laptop/camera. Use a capture card that allows for AV input or use a combined setup that involves a AV-HDMI converter or Component-HDMI converter. Hope this helps 😊👍
Hi there,
So for Full Season the categories are Any% and WDC% but really if you have to beat the championship without winning/winning the WDC but you must complete all races then surely they should go into one category shouldn't they?
In my opinion the subcategories are a bit meaningless when they are the same in the end result which is why I want to offer a suggestion:
-
With Skips: You MUST win the WDC however skipping races either via retiring or DSQ is allowed (This would make the category an interesting tactic of which races to skip and which ones you must win) - Same rules as current categories (Race Distance, Penalties etc. but without the rule of DSQ/Retiring not being allowed as it should now be allowed)
-
Without Skips: You MUST finish all of the races and become WDC no matter what (Winning races is optional and allows for everyone to try this category) - Same rules as current categories (Race Distance, penalties etc.)
Thoughts?
So recently after doing some testing with DuckStation and finding settings which are as accurate as I can get them to XEBRA here are the settings which should be set for a emulator run using DuckStation:
Console Settings:
- CPU Clock Speed Control Disabled.
- Read Speedup: None (Double Speed)
- Use Read Thread (Asynchronous) Unchecked
Emulation Settings:
- Runahead: Disabled
- Emulation Speed: 100% [60 FPS (NTSC) / 50FPS (PAL)]
Display Settings:
- Show OSD Messages Checked (if a savestate is used, we'll know)
- VSync Unchecked
Enhancement Settings:
- Force NTSC Timings (60hz-on-PAL) Unchecked (PAL speed should be PAL speed and not adjusted by the emulator)
You can check the current date of your version via the General Settings in the Automatic Updater section (2021-01-11), and then post that in your description.
Hi sorry, it's taken so long to respond back to you on this one but the main end point is to beat both the 2WD and 4WD Championships. Once you've beaten those time ends and that's the end of the run. Hope this helps :)
After reading into what has currently been said I think Exposure's idea between splitting hardware and emu up seems like a straight forward idea and whilst it will split the runs in half essentially it does allow a level playing field and comparisons can be made appropriately. Also IMO if the run isn't being done on hardware via Disk/DVD then it should go under Emu as it doesn't fit anywhere and being honest there's only going to be one run on the leaderboard that is HDD if that got it's own leaderboards too.
I know that loads of people probably modify their PS2 to use a HDD rather than disk so that they have faster load times but what about those that don't want to modify hardware and just want to play on a disk? IMO
Emu + HDD --> Emulator Disk/DVD --> Original Hardware
Pog GG Dude, also yeah this comments thing is weird LMAO XD
You shouldn't have problems with OBS really, my suggestion is to capture the game via Window Capture although you'll need to use Silent Patch in order to achieve this (This is located in the resources section)
Probably going to be hard for anyone to do a run of the PS3 version as it was delisted in 2013 so getting hold of it is hard as hell unless you've got a CFW PS3 :/
Yeah I don't see why not, it'd go on the PlayStation section of the game so that's fine.
Might be worth looking at these forums to show how to set up DuckStation to represent Standard Disk Speeds (SDS) and Fast Disk Speeds (FDS)
