Could the rules for Any% and other main categories please specify if boost mode is allowed or not? There is a misc category for Any% boost mode so I'm assuming regular Any% bans it, but it is not specified in the rules if it does or not so anyone could submit a run using boost mode and it should be accepted with the current rules.
I don't have the 3DS version and none of the other mods do either, someone who actually has it should make a leaderboard for it, I think.
The average run is what you think is average. People in the speedrun community all have different standards, there's no real answer to this really. :P
Depends on how good the time is, World Records without video proof wont be accepted.
The game saves IL times based on the in-game timer in the game itself, and competitive leaderboards for that exist here: http://www.cyberscore.me.uk/game/1339
I added the NWC category now but I have one more thing, should we require beating the levels in order or let the player choose which order to beat the courses in? For now I added it with the latter rule.
About the NWC category, what should the category name be and should it be misc or main category?
However, if you do that, you may actually be losing more time than trying to beat the levels.
Why I think level skips should be allowed is because it is possible to get levels that are near impossible to beat for anyone else than the creator (in Expert mode). Take your epuzzler levels for an example, I had no idea how to beat most of them until I saw your solution videos on Youtube.
Also, as far as I know, the levels are chosen for each difficulty based on the clear percentage, correct? There are situations where someone releases a level and tells his friends how to beat it before giving them the code. That makes the person's friends beat the level in less attempts than a normal person would blindly do, thus increasing the clear percentage and making the level appear in mild difficulties.
Another question would be when does the timing for 100 Mario Challenge categories end? I'll just put when the axe on the last level falls down (since last level is always a castle level) for now. I'd suggest either keeping that, changing it to stopping the timer when the "Course Clear" screen appears or stopping the timer when you press next on the course clear screen since that's kind of the last input on the run.
I'll add 100 Mario Challenge Easy, Normal and Expert as main categories since no one seemed to be against it. Level skips should be allowed, right?
I considered beating all 10 Mario Challenge courses Any% for this game so that's why I thought starting it from the start and including tutorial would be the right thing. Beating the sample courses on the course selection would be pretty weird since you could just choose what order to do the courses in and it could get confusing etc, while starting the game from the start makes you do them in a certain order and has sort of an ending too. I'll do whatever you guys think is the best though because my opinion is always wrong. :)
More category suggestions?
Should I mark these categories as main or misc? I assume main, right?
I am requesting an addition of a main category that would be called something like "Any% No Mellow Mode" or "Any% Classic Mode Only". As mellow mode allows the player to skip levels and is overall an additional mode that makes the game easier, I think it would be relevant to have a category that bans it. Rules could be something like "Switching to mellow mode at any point in the run is not allowed."
I intend to run the game without mellow mode at first and I think there are many other people who would support this, so I hope it'll get added.
Motion controls are optimally faster and easier to use imo. Definitely required for a really good time.
I see, that's a relief. I thought that it was over as soon as the timer is paused because it's not "RTA" after that. Thank you for the answers!
So if the time comes and during a run, you need to pause the timer and the run because of interruptions, will the run still be valid if no time is saved from the pause and can the run be submitted to the site if there's a video of it? Or does the run need to be retimed with a timer counting during the pause which will basically make the actual time a lot worse?
