Emulator rules differ for each game, you’ll have to check the rules for the game or with the moderators.

For N64 games that do allow emulator, they might restrict what versions you can use. Most will only allow PJ64, but limit it to version 1.6 or 1.7.

As for capturing the console, you’d need a capture card for that. There are a decent amount of options out there, most of them relatively affordable. People would be glad to help and offer their suggestions if you’re looking to go that route.

@Aveklepiay if you have a run that isn’t getting verified because of inactive mods, you can request mod here in this thread. Then you can start verifying the waiting runs.

The cheaper you go for something like that, the lower quality it will be. You may find the controller suffers from input delay or other issues if it’s cheap. I don’t know anything about USB controllers, but look for some well reviewed ones so you don’t end up buying a junky brand.

If you go to submit a run you’ll see the words “Emualtor is banned” on the submission form. Often times games will have that there instead of explicitly in their rules.

Yeah, I think Bokoblins got it (he got it sometime around early-mid 2017 iirc) because of his involvement on ZSR. I think he was one of the ones who started talking about and working on synchronization between ZSR and SRC for leaderboards. Definitely not a nobody, he’s been involved with mostly 3D Zelda’s for a while now.

People did Roxas world blindfolded as a joke a while ago.

I think the consensus was that it was a good, silly 1 off thing but doing any more of the game was going to be too unpleasant. Most of the difficult comes from the fact that this game isn’t great about sound cues or having different sounds for different things (like walking on grass vs pavement). Also movements might be tricky since there isn’t a super easy way to turn at 90 degree angles. But all of that could probably be worked around with enough patience and practice.

By all means try it (I think someone recently did KH1 Blindfolded), but I don’t think you’ll get much helpful info since nobody has really taken it serious or figured out strats or anything.

Coming up with a definition for “True 100%” is also kind of hard since there’s a lot of things you could argue should count, that’s part of the reason why this definition has stuck for so long. True 100% has been tossed around as All Permanent Flags, but I don’t think that has been properly routed or really run outside of a few people (I know Makai did it Glitchless once and I think RTA64 did a few runs of 100% + Dungeon Items).

Or look if any longer games you’re interested in have ILs. That way you can still run the game without having to do a full game run.

I know the NES mini runs slower than an actual console so the SNES Mini might run slower as well (I’ve never actually checked or seen official comparisons).

So yeah, don’t do that because it’s not worth it and is probably slower anyway (plus it might not be allowed because of the console modding involved). Just emulate it on a traditional emulator if needed.

Download a timer like LiveSplit or WSplit and then add it to your layout in whatever software you’re using to capture and stream/record your gameplay (something like OBS or XSplit).

There’s a lot of tutorials out there on both setting up the broadcasting software and timers like LiveSplit if you want to see something in depth.

Just a note about the limited space thing on one monitor - if you split the HDMI coming out of the console and send it to both the capture card and your TV, you can still play off your TV without worrying about how small or cluttered your monitor screen is

They already know they need a capture card, they said it in their first sentence
I would want to get a capture card for the switch
What you’ll need is just a longer cable. If you’re using an external capture card then you’ll just want to buy a longer USB cable or an extender cable to make it reach.

If it’s an internal one, then just get a longer HDMI cable to go into the card. HDMI cables are easy to buy in long sizes.

I speedran a half dozen mini donuts before cross country practice when I was in high school once. Technically it was a double speedrun - the 3 mile round trip run to the shop and the donuts themselves.

Donuts > Pizza anyway

Playing a song is not a speedrun. I don’t even know how you play a song faster than what it’s actually supposed to be played it but that is beside the point.

Speedrunning is a hobby for video games.

Take your pick. My personal recommendation is WSplit because it’s simple and clean. The most popular is LiveSplit because of how customizable and feature rich it is.

Llanfair is a Mac option but it requires the Java JRE to run.

Other than that there is LiveSplitOne which is browser based so it’s OS independent. https://cryze.github.io/LiveSplitOne/

Yeah always go internal if you can afford the little extra money. For HD cap cards, externals that connect via USB have varying amounts of delay in the capture while internals have very little to no delay.

As for what brand, the Elgato HD60 Pro mentioned is popular. Avermedia and even Razer also have some popular ones.

The 502s happen every year around this time and again in the summer because of AGDQ and SGDQ. With AGDQ coming up in just a couple days (and especially while it's going on) the site gets a ton of traffic and it just gets overloaded sometimes.

Think this has been mentioned recently (or something related to this).

Posting niconico links in a forum post makes the link disappear. It just doesn’t show up at all (as a video, clickable link, or text). My guess is that it’s trying to embed it but the embedding of niconico is broken so the video and link just disappear.
