There will probably be some input delay if you’re on an LCD TV. That being said, it doesnt mean much because you can learn around it and get used to it.

Although I always support CRTs, a friend of mine played a PS2 game on an LCD and switching to CRT was worse for him because he learned to adjust his menus with input delay. Without it, he couldn’t menu correctly anymore, so he went back to LCD. And he held many WRs like that so it’s hardly gonna keep you from doing good. PS2 input delay is much less noticeable than say NES or SNES.

It depends entirely on the game.

First, using an HDD as a homebrew app to put any game on it instead of just the supported ones is banned because it’s modifying the console to speed up load times when it isn’t normally supported. Rather, most communities ban this because it’s changing how the system functions and console mods to increase performance are usually always banned.

If your game does natively support HDD loading (I only know of a few JRPGs that do) then you'll need a 50k model and a lot of specific hardware to benefit from the HDD. It takes a specific brand of HDD as well as some startup discs to get the console to read it right. It’s expensive and hard to find this stuff.

I’m assuming that you won’t be running a game with native HDD support, so in that case you’ll want the slimmest model you can get for the best loads. This is a 90k model. If you can’t find one, a 77k or a 70k model will also work. Both of those are comparable to a 90k in terms of loading (for example, my 77k and 90k load some games at the same speed). The general idea here is just don’t get a fat model, those are slow and the difference in loading between those 3 slim models can be small or they’re might not be any depending on the game.

For what it’s worth, a slim model is also the best for running PS1 games off a PS2 as well.

If you’re asking how to classify running a game on a hacked or modified SNES Classic, the smartass answer is “Don’t do that”.

For one thing, it will probably be slower than using a regular emulator so that should always be your go to option if regular hardware isn’t an option. If for some reason you’re insistent on it, then you’ll need to check with the community for the game in question. A lot of communities won’t allow you to use a NES/SNES Classic that has been modified or hacked to run any game because it can be considered console modification which is usually banned. Plus it opens up questions about how the consoles interpret and run ROMs they weren’t included with. Maybe a bunch of testing has been done with this so maybe it’s known to be kinda accurate when modified like this, I never followed the hacking of the console too closely (in this case the only problem would still be the game just running slow in general).

If they do allow it, then my original post still stands - it’s still a console, not an “emulator” for the purpose of this site. People don’t put VC or runs done on a flash cart as emulator, so nobody should be putting SNES Classic as one either. If the LB doesn’t have it as a console because of it being for a game not included normally, then it’s up to the mods to add the console as an option if they want to allow it. It’s really a game by game basis for games that are being played on a modified version of the console.

Yes it can, people have used sd2snes in the past for their runs and Everdrive is basically the same thing.

That is correct. Both the SNES and NES Classics run slower than their official hardware counterparts. They run at 60FPS compared to the originals which run at slightly over 60FPS.

iirc the net time loss is something like 1 second every 10 minutes or something like that. Not horrible, but bad for high competition games.

While it is technically an emulator, it’s an official one similar to Wii VC. For VC, it’s put as the console and not an emulator (that’s usually reserved for 3rd party software and unofficial ones), and SNES/NES Classic are usually treated the same.

Its worth mentioning that just because someone doesn’t tweet for a while doesn’t mean they won’t see a notification for a tweet. I didn’t tweet for a year, but I still saw any tweets sent my way.

I know this is Talk and it’s meant for offtopic threads but this is just stupid. There is zero purpose to this thread and it doesn’t encourage discussion on anything. It’s beyond offtopic.

Mekarazium didn’t mean twitch staff, they meant site (as in this site) staff.

There is no way to answer this question without more information.

What types of games do you like? Do you care about glitches or not? Do you like long runs or short runs?

And although you’ve made it clear that you don’t want to see “a game you like”, that is still the best advice. We could sit here and recommend games for weeks, but if you don’t like the games we recommend, it won’t be fun for you to run them and you’ll get burnt out quick.

Get partnered on twitch or become site staff.

I’m not really sure what question you’re asking about these things. If you don’t know what a twitch partner is, you’re best off looking it up and reading what Twitch has to say about it.

There was a thread on this in the past, I think kirkq started it here in The Site (if I can find it I’ll edit it into the end of my post). I dont remember what was decided out of it though. That being said, native bounty support would be interesting, but it’s important to remember that not all bounties are purely run/time based. A lot in the past have been for finding setups for tricks, skips, glitches etc. (the like $1000 one for Barrier Skip in TWW comes to mind). I think it was these cases that made it hard to decide if hey should be LB based or something more site centralized.

EDIT: nope, was Pac, not kirkq https://www.speedrun.com/The_Site/thread/yonpk

That’s up to you really. I don’t think it sounds like a huge problem. You also don’t have to resubmit it, you can edit it (go to the run, click on the 3 dots in the top right corner, and hit edit run) and change anything you want. The run will have to be re-verified, but you won’t need to delete it and submit it again or anything if you want to fix it.

YT works fine for me on mobile. I can both view them directly on the site and by opening them in their own tab. Willing to bet that is something else on your end and not a site issue.

Usually in the case of videos not playing, it’s very frequently a problem with the video site (twitch, YT, etc) since they are the sites hosting the content and this site just embedded it.

@soulkilla a community I’m a part of created a separate platform for PS2 with HDD. We treated it as a separate platform and added it as a subcategory for all the main categories (PS2 and PS2 w/ HDD). However this is completely up to the discretion of your community and it’s mods/runners.

The HDD speeds up loading so much that it’s almost a different platform, plus, it’s incredibly hard and expensive to come by since it requires a lot of specific hardware and a startup disc to actually configure the system properly. That is a big barrier of entry in our opinion so we split it out.

The game I’m mentioning https://www.speedrun.com/kh-j

It should also be noted that this is for a game that natively supports PS2 HDD loading. Modifying the console to use the HDD as a homebrew unit to install every game on it and not just the actual supported ones is generally frowned upon and not allowed by a lot of communities since it isn’t supported by Sony.

You can only use 1.2 when running on emulator if you want to submit it to the LBs. As for the crash, I’m not entirely sure what could cause that. Have you tried a different ROM?

I think you’ll need to change the region of your Wii to NTSC for the wad to run correctly. I’m not 100% sure though since I’m not too familiar with PAL Wiis.

As a side note, you’re better off creating a new thread in the future instead of necroing a 2+ year old one.

Yeah this is the wrong approach to this hobby. Speedrunning for views is the easiest way to get burnt out or frustrated, especially if you don’t like the game you’re running.

I can understand wanting to get more popular, but getting popular in this hobby (or on sites like Twitch and YouTube in general) is extremely hard and only happens to a very few lucky individuals. You’re better off playing games you like and doing other things to gain more momentum (consistent streaming is a big one). Nobody gets popular overnight, it’s a long process and doing runs of popular games won’t aid that as much as you may think.

If it appears to be an issue with your computer, maybe try re-installing the drivers. Maybe something get funky with them and a fresh install will help fix it.

That’s really all I can think of at this moment that might help.

@Liv yes those 3 mods are aware they are going to be removed. We (KH Community) re-organized our mods a few months back and how we set up the LBs. 2 of those 3 stepped down from all mod duties at the time and Biz is remaining at a series level mostly.
