Start there, that has a lot of information related to starting streaming/recording.

Yes, that is a good capture card. You can probably find them cheaper than retail price if you look for them used or refurbished if a new one is out of your price range.

How does BLJing in a 2D plane provide any benefit? It’s not like there’s any angles or corners for you to clip through when you get enough speed. Unless you’re thinking of using it to gain height but I’m pretty that wouldn’t be a BLJ then since that doesn’t sent you upwards unless you’re on stairs (my SM64 knowledge is lacking so that may not be 100% correct).

Be sure to enable the archiving of past broadcasts on twitch before you stream. If you don’t do that then the VOD won’t be saved and you won’t be able to create a highlight of it.

This is pointless advice if you plan on local recording for YouTube or if you’ve already done this, but I always toss it out there before people stream on twitch just in case they don’t know. I’ve seen people get bit by it many times.

It’s up the community to decide what is or isn’t banned. It really doesn’t matter what any of us think here because we’re probably not involved in the games (if we were then we would have voiced our opinions in any discussion that led to it being banned in the first place).

If the community wants it banned, then it should be banned. It doesn’t really matter whether any of us randos on this forum think any differently.

I’m taking a stab in the dark here that DS means Dark Souls, in which case you’d have to get in contact with the community (through forums or discord) to find any resources they may offer.

That's up to the community of the game to decide.

This is a very vague question that leaves very little room for help.

What exactly do you need help with? The pinned thread in this forum is a very good overview of what's need to get streaming and submitting runs. I'd recommend reading that and figuring out what in specific you need help with or more guidance on. Then I'm sure we'd be glad to offer advice or instructions for whatever you need.

You don’t, not accurately.

The best way is to download the run and then open in a video editor that can see the length of the run in frames. Subtracting the starting frame from the ending frame then dividing that by the FPS of the capture gives you the length of the run in seconds.

Alternatively, you can also just use a video editor to try and find the extract time stamps the run starts and ends to calculate the length that way without checking the frames. As long as the editor is good at showing partial seconds/frames it should work okay. It might be slightly less accurate but it should still be good (or at least better than eyeballing it).

I really hope you didn’t email the support email for speedrun.com because that is definitely NOT what it’s supposed to be used for lmao.

Each community controls itself individually, this site is essentially just an aggregate site for all the inner communities of Speedrunning. If you need help with an autosplitter for Overwatch you need to contact the OW community instead.

Posting your email here is a REALLY bad idea. I highly recommend redacting that from your post and instead directing people to contact you on social media. These forums occasionally get hit by spam bots and you really don’t want an email where anybody (or anything) like that can get a hold of it.

I mean, YouTube just doesn't delete videos that I know of, and you shouldn't be deleting them either. Most LBs determine validity of runs on a case by case basis. Some won't like to keep your runs up if you delete all evidence of them, others won't care. You'll need to check with the mods.

I'm also hoping that you have backups of your videos stored somewhere on your local machine in case something happens to them on YouTube (if you don't, you really should start). That way you can restore them at any point.

PS: this is definitely not the correct forum for this. This should have been posted in probably the "Speedrunning" forum. This one is for new users to Introduce themselves.

I don't believe there's anything out there that will do this for you automatically. Most of those trackers that you see (such as the ones used in some Zelda Randomizers) are custom made for the specific game. I'd love to wrong on this since it would be neat software to have, but unfortunately I think you're going to need to make one yourself or find someone who can make one for you.

It’s 100% not possible. That door doesn’t even lead to the final fights. The Destiny Islands at the end of the game is a completely different world than the one in the beginning of the game, and the game doesn’t load everything all at once - in other words, there’s internal flags in the game that prevent areas or events from loading if you haven’t completed everything it wants you to.

If you're not looking for a top quality CRT (aka PVM, BVM, etc) then you can find people literally giving them away on Craigslist. I've seen people say that they'll pay YOU money to come take the CRT away from them. That's really the best way to find them. Either that or tag sales or pawn shops or any of them on the side of the street (just be wary of bugs).

As for a good model, there's really no "best" model unless you're looking for like RGB. You'll need the aforementioned PVM/BVM for the best quality or even something like a Trinitron (my personal model). But those can get expensive, as in a couple hundred dollars, so they're only for dedicated retro gamers mostly. Other than that, I've used various no name brand TVs before and all of them have worked great, plus if you're getting them dirt cheap, you can test them out and see if they work for you at little risk.

This thread is a duplicate (and was probably created in error), these questions were already answered here: https://www.speedrun.com/introductions/thread/9vu8u

They’re asking a question about the GameCube, not about MKDD.

Anyway, any GameCube manufactured before 2004 (I think, if memory serves) will be the models with the normal analog out port as well as a second serial port and the digital out port on the back. The model is DOL-001.

Any GameCubes manufactured after that date will only have the one port and are model number DOL-101. I think the Platinum came out in like 2002-2003 so it’s possible that early models had the multiple output ports whereas later models, as long as they weren’t discontinued, had just the one port.

In reality, having the digital out really isn’t usefully for anything nowadays unless you managed to snag the GC Component cables before they became like $500 a set for first party ones. Along those same lines, most GC games are run off of a Wii that is backwards compatible, just because you can use the Wii Component cables to boost quality and Wiis are more “all purpose” so to speak because of the ability to do the VC.

Im not trying to discourage you from anything (this is more like a “backup”), but Livesplit One is a fully functioning version of Livesplit that runs in a browser so it’s cross platform. And Livesplit itself can be run through Wine as well. Just keep that in mind if you find yourself stuck with your project but would still like to use a timer like Livesplit.
