Yeah I wouldn’t recommend that thing unless you’re fine with degrading your quality or inducing lag to the capture. I would always recommend an OSSC if you’re capturing via component or SCART, and a RetroTink 2x if you’re capturing via composite/s-video. The RT is going to be cheaper than an OSSC, but it’ll still run you about $100.

If you have questions about why a run was rejected, I would ask the mod who rejected it. Based on that message, it sounds like you submitted your run twice, not that you used strats from other runners (which is definitely allowed).

Okay, Remote Play will still have the same principles in that console type doesn’t impact that. OBS will let you record in whatever settings you ask it to. If 1080p isn’t working because your computer can’t handle it, then I would recommend trying 720p, yes.

If that still causes issues, you’ll have to mess with more settings or maybe try and do 30fps instead. It’s all about playing with your quality settings to find what will work for you.

Console type doesn’t change quality at all when you’re using a capture card, what matters is your PC specs. If you don’t have a strong enough CPU/GPU then you’re probably not going to be able to record in 1080p60fps. I would recommend lowering the quality and bitrate in OBS and see if you get better performance or better quality in your recordings.

I’m gonna guess and say no. Any $10 converter for analog to digital is probably going to add delay/lag to your game capture feed or it will degrade the quality. Granted, I don’t exactly know the piece of hardware you’re talking about, so feel free to share a link to it.

If the category you’re submitting to isn’t a co-op category (this would be evident by every run having more than use associated with it) then no, it’s a single player run. It’s a good rule of thumb that all runs are to be done by you yourself unless otherwise specified.
I totally disagree with all that
I don’t mean this in an antagonistic way, but what exactly do you disagree with?

Do you disagree with the site letting individual communities moderate themselves and control their own LBs? Do you disagree with needing to talk to the mods of a game?

I’m really trying to understand what you disagree with in my post. I’m like you, I believe that when there are substantial differences between console and emulator that they should be split out, so I understand the sentiment (and LBs already do this when they deem it necessary), but what I’m struggling to grasp is why you’re so resistant to the site’s policy of not getting involved on individual games. Or why you won’t bring up any concerns with the mods of the game(s) in question.

discussione: The Site

...Nothing is going to come from this. As everyone before has already said, and as I’ll reiterate, there is no problem to fix. There is no issue here that needs to be resolved at a site wide level as there is already a system in place to handle emulators. Individual games and communities all handle emulation differently and the site will not get involved with telling communities how to run their LBs.

If you have an issue or concern with emulator and console being treated together on an LB, you should direct all questions and concerns to the mods and communities of those games. They’ll be the ones who can address your concerns and they’ll be the ones who can implement any changes to an LB like this.

I'm really trying to understand what your desired setup is, it sounds a little weird and atypical to what you'd expect for someone recording runs. If you're new to speedrunning, I can only guess that you're not familiar with the software most runners use.

I would recommend using OBS as your streaming/recording software. It's free and is the most widely used application to stream or record runs. OBS is a broadcasting software so you can create any layout you want, including a timer. Timer's don't have anything to do with a capture card, the timer is a separate application you run on your PC and then you can capture it with OBS. The most widely used one is LiveSplit. I would recommend going that way as both of those pieces of software are lightweight and should get you up and running quickly.

As an aside, if you're planning on streaming via the Twitch App on a console like a PS4, then I would still recommend the above if you want a timer on your videos - just replay the video of the run from Twitch in OBS and overlay LiveSplit into the layout. Hopefully some of that helps or provides you with the information you're looking for, but I wouldn’t recommend purchasing a high end video editor like Premier Pro unless you intend to do a lot of high end video editing independent from speedrunning. In the case of needing to trim down a video to isolate the actual run you did, there are numerous free editors and software that can do that for you.

A RetroTink 2-x will take a 240p or 480i analog input and convert to digital HDMI at 480p60fps. It’ll run you about $100 but it’s your best solution that’s not an OSSC.

If that’s still too expensive then in all honesty, I wouldn’t even try to capture it via component. I would go back to composite and buy a gv-usb2 capture card ($40) and capture it in SD, especially if you’re splitting the signal to a CRT to play off of. Any solution for component to HDMI that’s not one of those aforementioned three pieces of hardware will create lag, delay and probably reduce your quality. Those solutions would just be any cable or converter box you can find on Amazon, but again, it’s probably going to knock your quality and I wouldn’t recommend it.

Yeah I can imagine that that would be the biggest issue. Even if it uses stock parts, I would wager that most communities would consider it emulation or some other form of unofficial hardware. I guess technically it would vary community by community but I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of places classified it as emu or just straight up didn’t allow it.

What you do is up to you, but all you have to do is go to the runs and click the three dots on the right side by your name and you’ll get two options to edit or delete your runs (don’t delete them, there’s no need to). This will work for already approved and pending runs.

As a note, changing anything on a run will require it to be re-verified by the mods so keep that in mind as that might change your choice of whether to edit every run or just wait for Google.

One of those mods (Sidarino) was online just yesterday. Have you tried communicating with them at all? Mods have up to 21 days to verify a run, so if your run has been pending for only 10 days, you should wait a little longer for the mod to check it. But you should make a forum post on the game or reach out to the mod if you have questions about the rules. You need to make an effort to communicate with existing mods if you have questions or concerns about something on an LB.

Also, the “you must have a run submitted rule” is in place when requesting moderation so the site staff have proof that you actually run the game and you’re not seeking mod duties on random boards on the site.

AntarcticaTimmiluvs5 years ago

You can’t. Autosplitters don’t exist in LiveSplit for console games. There’s an application ( https://github.com/ROMaster2/LiveSplit.VideoAutoSplit ) you can run in conjunction to OBS that can split for you (you bind the program to a HotKey in LiveSplit) based off matching percentages of video screenshots, but that all has to be manually setup by you if you want to go that route.

Check the rules of the game(s) you want to run or contact the mods of the game and ask them if the rules don’t specify. Emulation restrictions vary by each and every game (both in terms of if you can use it and which ones you can use).
