99% sure this is a post I actually made a few months ago that this bot just reposted.
EDIT: Lol, found it https://www.speedrun.com/the_site/thread/wqnh9
It would be infinitely more useful if you put all of this information where it belongs (like in a Guide on the actual LB for the game) rather than an info dump right here. People aren’t going to check a random forum post for information on a game/route, they’re going to go to the LB and look at the guides. Putting information there and directing people there is much more useful and just looks better on forums than walls of text.
Any controller that lets you do things not possible on a regular first party controller are usually always banned (I’m not sure I’ve ever found a case where it’s allowed).
You could easily bind left/right to keys on a keyboard and play an emulator and get weird results. But that would be banned because you can’t do left/right on a normal controller. Same thing would go for any controller you use on a console.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to use another site already designed to do that easily? Discord, or literally any other social media site all have group messaging. It probably doesn’t make sense for the site to build that feature when there are so many other places that do it better already.
I haven't watch the video, so I can't really comment on exactly what they said, but I'm not sure what you mean by "to know how speedrunning works".
There is no understanding it in a broad sense - speedrunning is the act of completing a game as fast as possible. That's it, there is nothing else to understand beyond that. Any further understanding would be understanding how the game(s) you want to run work. You need to understand the games you want to run so you can, well, learn them and get good at them. Whether you run one game or 12 games, you'll need to understand them each in order to run them to various degrees of success.
If you choose to run more than one game at the same time, they better be connected significantly otherwise it'll be increasingly difficult to be good at either of them. For example, if the mechanics between the two games are significantly different, then becoming good at either will be hard to do because you'll be constantly switching between styles of gameplay. A 2D Mario and a 3D Zelda might both be interesting games to you, but the games are incredibly different from one another so doing both at the same time might hurt you more than help. The gameplay is so different between them that the skills aren't transferable and you'll probably get better at one of them quicker by focusing just on that game.
How many games you want to run at the same time is ultimately up to you. It might help you, it might hinder you, it'll all be dependent on your skills, the games, and a number of other things.
The white text that the site uses now is absolutely blinding on my eyes. That’s really the only change I’ve noticed (but god is it awful).
Your own series on SR.C? That’s not something anyone here can help you with. Those need to be requested through the game request form although they are being created very rarely nowadays so you would need a very strong case for one.
If you’re talking about something else, please be more specific as “series” can mean a lot of things.
Gonna XPost myself here because this was also posted in the bug forum
That’s not a bug, that’s how pronouns work. You can choose to identify with He/Him and They/Them at the same time as an example. It’s your way of saying “either of these are acceptable when referring to me”. So, someone could easily be okay with being identified by any combination (or all) of the options.
You don’t use timers in a steam application, timers are separate programs that run on your computer. This can either be a web based timer like LiveSplitOne or something else. There aren’t many options for Mac timers anymore unfortunately. Llanfair used to be a decent one, but I don’t think it’s been updated in a long time.
If you’re talking about an Autosplitter, I don’t believe you can use those on a Mac because they require regular LiveSplit. You can run regular LiveSplit through Wine, but I don’t know if the Autosplitter would work in that scenario.
Without programming experience you won’t be able to use the API. API’s are designed for programmers to interact with sites and their data. So, unfortunately, without a basic understanding of the HTTP protocol and a programming language of your choice, using the API won’t be as simple as just reading the documentation.
This argument is pointless because all the two of you are doing is arguing what fruit you like better - apples or oranges.
Communities handle this stuff differently, some communities will remove all runs if a user cheats, others will just remove the cheated run and leave the others. It’s entirely up to the community to decide how to handle it. Clearly both of you are of the opposite opinions on how you would handle this if it was your community and no amount of reiteration of those opinions is going to persuade the other person.
Is there a question in there that you have? Although I would be curious as to why you would use a timer on your phone when you’re planning on using a capture card and (presumably) recording the video on your PC. It would make more sense to use a standard timer application like LiveSplit if you’re doing that.
I would also be careful with generic AV to HDMI converters, the cheaper it is the more likely it is to degrade your quality and/or introduce input delay or other issues like that. That kinda stuff might inhibit your from playing your best.
That's not great advice in my opinion because PS2 emulation is commonly banned for it's inaccuracies. I would definitely advise checking out the rules for games before just using an emulator. Also, using an emulator on a very weak PC like OP described is probably not a great idea if they're looking to record runs.
Why did you copy and paste a post from the bug thread? You had already responded to the bug thread confirming you had the same issue @Hako posted, so why did you just copy and paste their same message into a new thread?
There’s no need for this. If that bug was reported once, creating a new thread won’t do anything else. Staff will look into the bug at some point.
