I'm really, really sorry for bringing all of this to you. When you mention the no intro on the other thread, I just got excited and thought that this was something that would be nice to discuss in a civil manner.
Reading the responses, and knowing that I was going to be part of this community, I just makes me feel bad for the amount of toxicity people bring without even asking. Reading things like "stop being a baby", "if you don't want to waste 6 minutes, you don't even want to speedrun", "you want instant gratification" and so on, makes me feel like I'm going down on a pit of toxicity that I just don't want for my life.
But on the bright side, that's ok because I can quickly realize which members to avoid and disregard entirely.
Anyway, as someone said on the thread, the point of the game is having fun, so even if the community votes against having a no-intro category, I can do it by myself without any hassles, since having fun is much better and rewarding than trying to put my name on a leaderboard.
Again, Waifu, I'm really sorry for how this turned out to be, it really wasn't my intention.
As an example, if I start a new game and go until the knife (where it autosaves), and then upload my savefolder and you get it, will you be able to use it? Or there's something related to the steam user account that prevents this from happening?
If I'm not mistaken, it will be on 28th of May.
Hi everyone!
@Waifu mentioned the possibility of a "no-intro category" on the SRT thread and I feel like this is something that could be discussed on a different thread, since it's a subject that more people might be interested.
The way I see it, the initial 5-6 minute intro (inside Ethan's House and then walking through the snow) is pretty much a on rails section, and I don't feel like it would add that much to the competitive leaderboards, unless at some point a skip is found for this.
Waifu mentions on the other thread about making a save on the moment you get the knife. On the other hand, I feel like this could be made on the moment that Ethan gets down a slope (right before finding the dead horse), since from that moment on, you can explore the houses and such.
Anyway, the reason I'm creating this is to get a feeling about what the community thinks about this. I watched a bit of Super Mario Sunshine speedruns for some time, and I know that they created a save file that starts some minutes into the game because you have to go through a quickly playable section and then a long cutscene.
In RE8 case, there's no cutscene, it's all gameplay, but as I've mentioned, is pretty much a "hold W" gameplay with not that much to do.
I'd love to hear other opinions on this!
@Waifu, now that you mention, I'd be tremendously interested in a no intro category. Let's face it, it's a 6 minute scene where you just have to hold W, it doesn't add anything "competitive" to the run and when things start to get serious, with heavy resets and such, it will be such a slog, the same way it happens with Super Mario Sunshine.
I feel like the ideal place to start the clock would be right on the point that Ethan gets down a slope and find a dead horse. I think someone can even make a thread to put this into discussion.
Edit: I'll make a thread to ask how interested everyone would be in this
Oh, nice @polluxik
All my runs so far are in casual as well, maybe I'll try one on hardcore just to take notes on all the ammo and Lei spots.
I'm really curious to know the difficulty you are playing. Is anyone running Hardcore and VoS or just Casual and Standard?
Thanks a lot for the information! Indeed I noticed that in my second playthrough I had to use a lot more bullets on her, which felt strange, since I've had stronger weapons by that point. What you say makes total sense then!
Do you have any notes related on ammo needed for bosses and such?
Are you finishing with a lot of ammo or just enough?
Got a 2:27 on NG. The most obvious things I can do: 1) Learn better where are the most valuable Lei spots and where to get the ammo and 2) optimize my ammo usage (haven't even crafted a single item on the run and got an achievement for it lol).
All in all, I'm very happy because aside from the kinda boring 10 initial minutes, the run is very dinamic and fun to do. I can see myself doing it for a long time.
Also, all of you who are posting your times, would be nice to know the difficulty. I got the 2:27 on Casual.
As someone new in the RE Speedrunning and interested in running RE8, I have a question:
I started a new run in NG+ and realized that I have all the items that were with me at the end of the first run. Was that the same thing on the other RE games?
If that's the case, what are the rules for the NG+, since every player will have different equipment by the start?
