Because Aetherpool stats are something that anyone can obtain, and the randomness of upgrade drops cannot be equallized, I'd expect that you would want to get both the Aetherpool Arm and Aetherpool Armor to level 100 before trying to get a record in Palace of the Dead. I don't know the rules for sure myself.
@ZlinaDoom I am guessing there isn't a category for Gates right now, but there easily could be if you do post some times and drum up activity. I am, of course, speaking for myself and not the mods, but it sounds like a fantastic addition to this game's speedrun options.
@kazarien I can see how the uncapped level-up could be a bit of a problem, with the issue being that it isn't really possible to turn off. The raw attribute points are still awarded, and you're granted other benefits such as aggro immunity to enemies a few levels higher than people capped at 50, but I don't know if it makes a difference just yet. I can certainly keep it in mind when I attempt a run that goes past level 50.
On the other hand, regarding roulettes and such, I agree that abuse of daily/weekly roulettes are a thing, but I'm unsure how often segmented runs happen nowadays. It seems like they have become a LOT less popular, but that is probably just because games are getting shorter. This is a long run, so I wouldn't be surprised if it came to that. I would agree that abusing the roulettes would ruin segmented runs, but that sort of thing can be done in marathons as well by timing your character creation a little before the reset. So I think that daily/weekly content is fair game for a speedrun, so long as they are only used one time each in the run, regardless of whether it is segmented or single-segment. Then it simply cannot be abused and would ultimately fall within the confines of (one use guaranteed for anyone who creates a character, regardless of what time or day.)
I'm actually planning an ARR% run myself, but I'm loony enough to do the marathon because I've had some practice while just leveling alts and I think I can manage it. That is why I've been recently fishing around for info about it. Downside is that there isn't too too much activity on here from what I've seen, so while I plan to stream this, it may not reach any of the interested parties.
There is a possibility that I'll do a streamed run this weekend. I've got a pretty good idea as to how I'm gonna tackle it, but if you've jotted down any routing info you wouldn't mind sharing I'd certainly love to see it.
I'm certainly not someone who makes these decisions here, but by the sounds of it, it would probably be rejected simply because people that don't have the expansion can't do the run. If a strat requires some players do something beyond owning the base game in which the story is present, it means that people are required to buy Heavensward or Stormblood to make use of those tools or they simply cannot compete.
That is where I imagine the concept of not being allowed to use recruit a friend rewards etc. comes from. Some people don't have the friends (or the money to buy more accounts and sub just to give themselves those rewards) and it's easier altogether to just level the playing field for every player regardless of their external resources.
Hi, I wanted to inquire about the MSQ speedrun as well. I saw some discussion about it on reddit as well as the Level 1 - 2.0MSQ speedrun, and I wanted to see where things stand.
I have had experience with speedrunning the MSQ, and I am currently thinking about/planning to do a live-streamed attempt at the ARR category. That said, I don't want to go through with it if I'm not informed ahead of time regarding the particulars.
I saw on the FFXIV listing that there are apparently active categories for ARR and HW. If I were to run the ARR category, I would need to start from character creation, continue to the end of "Before the Dawn", and could not use any assistance from delivery moogle, FC/FC buffs, and would not be able to premake any parties for group content. I also understand that using the 'Road to 60' buff is an allowed option. So long as there aren't any developments since then that I am unaware of, I'd be willing to make a live attempt at this, but I want to know that it would be accepted if I were to do this fully with record. There are still no runs uploaded (and I know the one run I've seen stopped at 2.0 which is probably the reason) but I'd like to make sure the run COULD get uploaded at this time.
Additionally, any new details that could be shared would be appreciated, especially regarding timing and restrictions. I want to make this happen, and I have plenty of opportunity to do it sooner rather than later, so any guidance is greatly appreciated.
