I just double checked the conf file and saw this:

" windowresolution: Scale the window to this size IF the output device supports hardware scaling. (output=surface does not!) output: What video system to use for output."

You have output=surface so it wont work.

Looking at another dosbox.conf for a GOG launcher it has output=opengl ... try that + windowresolution=somethingxsomething

Ohhh .. I understand what you mean now. Yea because you have 0.74 .. need to change it from 0.73 to 0.74 .. hahaha.

"i've already tried your quotation of dosbox wiki and it still don't works... quite strange. I launch DOSbox and mount the skyroads file like indicated in the help mount."

Ok .. so I assume you go through this process:

mount c <skyroads folder> c: skyroads

Is this correct? This is how we mount and run games on PC. If it is corect, then what you need to do is: before the "skyroads" part to run the game. Type in: "cycles max". So all up it should look like:

mount c <skyroads folder> c: cycles max skyroads

Yea I have avoided using Alt+Enter like the plague personally because it screws up the resolution on my TV. I think Display capture may be "cancelling out" your window captures when it goes full screen as windows will force a full focus on your full-screen mode of DosBox. If you are going to full screen because you want to capture the game as a "whole screen", you can still do this with windowed mode by cropping the display capture transforms (using alt + click). You will still be seeing a window while you run, but your recording will be of a full screen (assuming you cropped correctly).

If however you insist on playing the game full-screen for your own enjoyment while you run (which is a fair proposition) .. I'm not sure how to make that work. I hope @Krayzar 's suggestion yields some results for you.

Actually it just occured to me since you mentioned the default resolution as 320x480 ... you can change this resolution to whatever you want. If you run the Dosbox configure program that comes installed separately you can change this. If you are running from a DosBox Launcher (such as those that come with games from GOG) you may have to navigate to the folder where the game is installed and look for the dosbox.conf file and edit the line "windowresolution=320x480" and change it to something more reasonable e.g. "windowresolution=1920x1080".

How are you using dosbox? Are you running skyroads from shortcut? Or are you loading dosbox first then mount drive folder and run game from dos prompt?

discussione: SkyRoads
New South Wales, AustraliaTenka6 years ago

According to the dosbox wiki:

"Mac OS X If you are using Mac OS X, a preferences file will be created for you on the first time you run DOSBox (as of version 0.73). This file contains the same system settings and initialization values as the dosbox.conf file on other systems.

It can be found (and modified) at ~/Library/Preferences/DOSBox 0.73 Preferences, where ~/ is your user profile folder (usually /Macintosh HD/Users/username/). The exact folder name in the Finder may vary, depending on the language you use for OS X."

Try that folder. If you find that file then inside, look for the line "cycles=auto" and change to "cycles=max"

New South Wales, AustraliaTenka6 years ago

@OuaisMaisNan hey dude. Yea by default with Cycles is set to Auto, DosBox will identify SkyRoads as 3000 cycles which is incorrectly low. (It does this with a lot of games).

Depending on how you are running DosBox you can either edit the Dosbox.conf file as @Iglum suggested, or if you are working directly from the Dos prompt within DosBox you can type in: "cycles max" before running the game.

That sounds.. really strange. When you hit record on obs.. what you see in the obs preview window should be what you get in the recording. If its showing in obs but not in the actual recording... that's bizarre.

If I misunderstood what you were saying, and the preview has a black box. Check the transforms of the window capture for it. Every so often obs craps out on the transforms and I need to reset them.

Obs IS able to record livesplit alongside your game footage simultaneously.. works good for me. Not sure why its doing that for you. :/

Personally I like to use Display capture and crop to the window of DosBox so that it captures the window-bar which contains cycles information (which may or may not be relavent to speedrun rules for MS-DOS games). Its not required for every game but its a good practice for DOS speedruns in general .. imho.

If you don't mind me asking, what is the game you are trying to run?

Thanks Reboot. I'll be sure to send you some messages on twitch if I have any questions.

Yea this seems to be more a question of "what should be the standard" we set as the rules. I'll have to take a look at the emulator you used and compare how different speed settings play.

I took a look at WinUAE last night, .. kickstart roms, adf disk drives, CPU type and cycles settings ... lol setting up Amiga emulators is complicated. I will try FS-UAE tonight and see how it works too.

TBH I am happy to just set the rules as you have it set, since at a quick glance the game appears to be running at an appropriate speed. It would be nice if there was a way to make the emulator display that information on an overlay if possible.. but if what you say is correct about PB regulating its own delta time then it probably doesn't even matter in this case.

I'll have to try it when I get home from work today. I'll make sure to send you a message on twitch if I have any issues.

Awesome Reboot! .. Yes we will absolutely add the category for you.

Just be aware that, we have not currently investigated Amiga emulators and the rules may or may not vary (assuming you have performed the run on emulator). So I am unsure of what/whether or not there would be any restrictions placed as such. But from my quick check, I dont think there will be much problems.

I have just added the category, feel free to submit it now. I will talk with the other moderators sometime tomorrow about it and if all goes well, we'll have your run up on the leaderboard shortly. :)

Not for a game submission as far as I know. It is possible to add peoples runs to an existing leaderboard for them, with or without their knowledge (preferably with).

However, as I understand it, if you submit for a game to be added you are expected to moderate it, and therefore you should know as much about the run as possible - the run in your submission is supposed to be evidence supporting this. So no, I'm pretty sure submitting for a game using someone elses run is not allowed.

You basically just want to spend a decent amount of time "messing around". For 3D games, the most common kinds of glitches are ones based on collision detection. Spend some time trying to mess with walls/doors etc, getting the character stuck in places where they normally cant go.

Often wall clipping/oob can occur when the game tries to calculate multiple collisions at the same time, in many cases this is from pushing the player character + some item with physics + a door, wall, or corner of a wall together in some way. Sometimes this can apply to enemies as well, especially when they can cause damage boost effects to "propel you" into a wall/door. In some cases, especially in poorly developed/rushed games there are just "gaps" in the collision maps of the level you can just walk through. They will not be visible though .. you will have to go around rubbing yourself along all the walls/ceilings/floors trying to find them .. and you have no idea if they even exist. Try to think of something that no one else would ... usually its because the developer was lazy and just thought "no one would notice", or they didn't even notice themselves. Obviously .. it wont be obvious ... so to speak.

The bottom line is though ... just spend some time screwing around with the game .. do things you think no one would have thought of .. do things that look like the developers didn't want you to do.

You want to keep every run ever submitted in your database. Trust me. It's very gratifying imo to compare all of your old pb's and see how far you've come once you have gotten a lot better in a game. I would strongly advise against deleting any obseleted pb's.

Also as mentioned, it effects the integrity of your board as it screws up the history of WR progression (see this by clicking on the "statistics" link on the leaderboard page). At the end of the day it's up to you if you want to remove your run, but .. yea .. I would strongly advise against it.

Nice, I hope he decides to come forward with the finished product if/when its ready. I think a lot of boards would find it useful, depending on the game.

discussione: Speedrunning

@Lonne cool! .. has he made it publicly available? and could it be adaptable to other games easily? i.e. allow custom image(s) to compare against?

At the very least that proves that the idea is plausible and has application.

discussione: Speedrunning
New South Wales, AustraliaTenka6 years ago

Actually I think you could apply this idea to automatically remove load times from just video (where games have easily defined/static loading screens). You could give it an image (of a loading screen) and have it analyse all frames that contain that image (or parts of that image?). Not sure how skilled you are to have it cater for variable resolutions/animated loading screens etc.. but that would be neat and useful I think, assuming that it's even possible ... I'll let you be the judge.

@chicdead26

Yea, there are some things that could be improved about the submissions page. Unless I am mistaken, I think the "defer to the series moderator" is a new standard they are adhering to .. so I don't think the submissions page reflects that yet. There could also be better explanations on what kind of information they wish to see in the Additional Notes box.

At the end of the day though, these guys are all volunteers.. they most likely have jobs/families/other activities (including speedrunning lol) they could be doing instead of trudging through what I can only imagine is no less than hundreds if not thousands of game submissions each week. So I am just thankful if my submissions get verified at all.

If you pay attention to the forums, you will start to understand why submissions can take a long time to get verified, and how you can better use the submission process to make it easier on them.

Wouldn't this be a part of the Mega Man series? https://www.speedrun.com/mega_man

If that's the case then they are going to reject it anyway and ask that you approach the Mega Man series mods to add the board(s) for you. Site mods need not get involved at all unless you run into unreasonable resistance over there.
