All changes on the leaderboard like bigger removals, new categories etc will be posted here. This is made to make the Structure of the furom more clean.

Why is only Speed 4 allowed in Realtime? Speed 5 is largly dependant on CPU speed, Speed 4 has at least a cap which can be reached with newer CPUs.
Can I use Speed 5 in Ingame Time? Yes, but the run wont be eligible for the Realtime Leaderboard.
Can we add a category? We have a category request Thread here, also Formable nations can just be done after the category rules and submitted.
Why dont exclusivly play on the newest Version? We cant trash all old runs just because they were played on a old version, allowing all aviable versions makes a level ground for competition. Also speedrunning has a long history of cherrypicking old versions for speedrunning.
**Why dont make every Version its own category?" It would get bloated way to fast and really reduce the actual competition on the board. Once major Bugfixes are in place a category split will be made.
Why dont measure runs by the Ingame date? We do that just switch to "Ingame Time" on the leaderboards.
Is a screen good enough for Ingame Time run verification? No, the community found screens even for bad runs as not enough for verification. Video ensures the legitimacy of runs.
Where do i get old versions? Look at the resources page. You will also find other things useful for speedrunning there.
With which category should i start? Assuming you play the current patch you should start with Capitulate 1.10 (or whatever the current newest Version is) To get into fighting optimised against AI you should start with Capitulate Ethiopia. After that to get into some tricks you can play Capitulate Poland. When you learned the Game "Form Nation" runs are most recommended.
time to rebuild your resources in guides...
@KeKeKumba even big leaderboards like mario 64 make subcategories. You dont need a new leaderboard for that. Subcategories can be set up under variables.
setting it to misc. is really clean. I use it in Hearts of Iron from nation already pretty long https://www.speedrun.com/hoi4#Form_Nation
what do you play normally? At best you play games you have played "dead". Really increases replay value.
I already informed people on the discord that they should discuss it, but i should probaly do it here too. Savinglag is a problem for fair RT runs so deactivating ironman resolves that. So Non Ironman runs should probably be allowed for Real Time runs with certain limitations/prerequisites. Ofcourse those runs will be restricted to be played like if it was Ironman. So I would ask you to propose those limitations/prerequisites or state your disagreement if you are against it.
Not really part of the community directly but i like to follow 007 speedrunning. The board here has holes and doesnt really show what the actual best times are.
I know you cant add the users directly by the rules but you can add them as anonoymus which would be accourding to the rules.
I know certain communites have a problem with elitism but having a dumbed down leaderboard because of it doesnt make it better.
Also SRC is a big site and could be a place of misinformation because of it.
My view is as long as the newest and best run is fine the other runs arent that noteable and just need skipping over the video (As long those runs arent also extremely good) Just looking a bit over it and making a modnote on the run is (hopefully) enough.
Also for when you get a ton of really really unoptimised submission i would argue that if the runs are barely speedruns you can reject them on that ground.
Playerprogression out of mod sight: I find it important to get some inbeetween views, its always harder to verify if someone comes with a extremely good run over night because runners didnt send in runs. So discouraging it by rejecting those runs (even if they arent in any way are milestone) is more than suboptimal.

This is a discord for all paradox grand strategy speedrunners.
@Sigurdd You mentioned HOI4 in the title so i feel compelled to reply here, even if i dont see how most things apply to us.
Your main arguments cut short are:
- Many small Categories inflate the games (I assume this is what you meant with that)
- Patches are a good way to divide categories
- Timing doesnt fit the games
- Ingame Time is confusing
"Many small Categories inflate the games": All Paradox Games need arbitrary goal to have a speedgame at all. It would be beneficial to try to concentrate the players on few categories to make competative leaderboards, but that is easier said than done. We in HOI4 have concentrated most of the effort in "Capitulate" and because we use the misc. system to draw more of the runners into fewer categories. Much better optimisations cant be done besides a level leaderboard which is honestly even worse. And to categories i hope its obvios that "any%" is no proper main category like the civilisation series lets you think. If you have another problem with the categories which are mostly based on achievments and other goals please ellaborate on that.
"Patches are a good way to divide the categories": This is straight up not the case, you know why minecraft is able to do that? A far far greater playerbase and patches which can be seen as generations. Most patches of Grand Strategy games play quite compareable because they are somewhat based on history. There was never a split in the Historical games you could really call. And making arbitrary splits or splits for every version just worsens the problem of your first point of balkanising the leaderboard. The goal of every Paradox leaderboard should be to allow for a updated "any patch" board and maybe a temporary "current patch" board if the size of the player base allows for it. (In HOI4 we have for Capitulate a New% board). The end goal would obviosly be a "Last Patch/All DLC" Leaderboard once the game is finished.
"Timing doesnt fit the games": Most Paradox Speedgames currently try to go for both "Ingame time" and "Real Time", both timing methods have their problems but there isnt much to improve on that without making it overcomplicated. Both categories are equaly valid and have their own subcategory normally. We have this implemented in HOI4 for a long time and the other games also have implemented it with success, so you are always free to compete by the "Ingame time" of the game.
"Ingame Time is confusing": It. Is. Not. In. Our. Power. There is no way to sort the runs by date, we need to use those conversions to have times at all on the leaderboard. Additionally only using year would be extremely inaccurate that a proper leaderboard wouldnt be possible. Victoria II currently experiments with "Year/Month/Day" variables to make it more approachable, but this doesnt make the conversion unneccesary. Tempted to also do that in HOI4 but in the end it would only add a ton of variables which would make submission even more complicated.
@Lieutnant_Boo I assume your complaint is that he should have posted this thread in a specific game. Thing is this thread is for multiple games unfortunately not sharing a series. So on SRC it is accurate that he posts here, even if he should have probably tried to contact us via our discord or in one of the games forums, or at least tag us here.
