This is a showcase of a new glitch Rubicate found yesterday. It's done by using ctrl-enter to frame advance Flash (I'm just using words, I don't understand it exactly). In the world map this gives you a debug menu, which you can use like I showed to get infinite money. You can also grind xp and pretty strong items there. However, when you use ctrl-enter during a battle, it skips the battle instead, giving you story progression. This can be used to basically skip until the credits.
The question becomes: What do we allow, and where?
My personal opinion is that the infinite money glitch could be fine, but the credits warp probably isn't. We also quickly discussed on discord https://discord.gg/NjAGM4SA8m but since not everyone on this forum is in the discord, it might be a good idea to also mention it here.
Started the timer ~1s too early and ended it ~17 seconds too late. So the real time is 3:13:31.
Timer was started ~2 seconds early and ~17 seconds late. Final retimed time is ~4:06:31
For the people that are interested in that, I just created a discord server for Sonny1, 2 and 2017 speedrunning. It's currently very barebones, but it might be useful for sharing strats and stuff.

I once did the math on the any% glitchless route on the XP gained from these training fights. By doing 2 training fights in zone 2, one at the start or after a lvlup and one after the assassin, and then 2 at the start of zone 3, you get some very nice XP benchmarks. Lvlup to 7 just before the Sensei, to 8 after the 2 training fights, and you also get a levelup just before Rockstar (9 if I recall correctly), just before the council (11 if I recall correctly), and one just before the Baron (12 if I recall correctly).
Edit: The reason that you'd want to spread out the training fights is because of the way XP works after a lvlup. You get a % of the next level every fight, and once you hit 100% (or more) you level up. However, this also drops the XP back down to 0%! This means that XP above 100% gets wasted. For example, after the first 2 fights in the game you'll have like 98% XP, and the next fight gives you a level up, and drops the XP back down to 0, so you'll need another 100. If you started out on training fights in zone 2 to get the same amount of XP these 2 fights give, you'd need 4(!) training fights.
Second note I just thought of: These numbers are based on Veradux leeching XP, since in glitchless he's actually useful. For any% this will be different.
@EvenEden. My any% Glitchless route actually uses 2 training fights in zone 2 and I believe 2 in zone 3 as well. The main concern there is the levelups though. If you use one at lvl 3 or 4 (xp gained is the same so it doesn't matter, except that the training fight can drop items), and one at lvl 5, you hit lvl 7 just before the Sensei. Then with 2 training fights in zone 3 you get lvl 8 just before the second fight in zone 2, where CDG helps a LOT, lvl 9 just before Rockstar, and lvl 10 easily before the Council. However, I think any% doesn't care about levels as much, especially lvl 7 is kinda unimportant. The 2 training fights also up the odds of MSH early, since any training fight is a 5% chance, which pushes the total chance of getting MSH in a run up to a whopping 33% chance.
I also theorized a Flame Strike build, but that was with the debug menu glitch in mind. Because there you can easily get a massive amount of fire piercing. Outside of that strat Flame Strike seems terrible though.
So.. I'm not super knowledgable about the any% route, but I have some experience with the older routes, any% glitchless route, and have (sort of) routed the 2017 remake. #ShamelessPlug.
Interestingly, almost all of the any% and 100% routes are kinda outdated, but they're all interesting to look at. There are definitely reasons why they made the decisions that they did. For example, most any% and 100% routes, except for the newest ones, use a Gunslinger build, which was because their main damaging ability was Electro Bolt, which scales with both strength and magic, so any item they got was useful. This very much minimizes variance, so that might be a good place to start speedrunning the game.
I personally like this game as some sort of meta-speedrun, where a big part is just trying to figure out what works and what doesn't, with your execution of the run being a little less important. Right now the community is suprisingly active, so you can always look at what other people are doing and ask questions. I also think that the different routes and categories are so closely related that you can take any trick from any run and apply it to your own runs. And don't be afraid to slow down for consistency. In my glitchless route I actually bought one of the armor pieces from the shop just to deal with those Rock Golems and Shaman of Blades, which is kinda necessary in glitchless, but can increase consistency in any% as well.
The odds of getting a single MSH during a run is about 17.6%, so resetting for it is probably not a great idea, especially if you want to reset for it during the first possible fight, which would be a 3% chance. This is also something you could increase with training fights. Interestingly, training, especially in zone 3, isn't necessarily slower since you'd get a lot of stats out of them.
And is Vera useful? Yes, absolutely. Does he slow you down? It depends. In the first couple of fights, no, but in the end, yes. We don't know exactly where the line is though, so try to find a point for yourself and go with it.
Could be interesting. Sounds more reliant on MSG than all other categories combined though. Maybe if you try to minimize total stats in general, ability points and ally usage, we could circumvent that. That way you could replace MSH with a couple of items and not be strictly behind an MSH run.
My initial ideas are the following:
-
The wording needs to change drastically. For example for any%: Trigger the credits page. Timing starts when you click "Click here to START!", and ends when the credits page shows up. any% glitchless: Trigger the credits page without using the item-eating glitch, or the loading glitch or any other glitch. Timing starts when you click "Click here to START!", and ends when the credits page shows up. 100%: Beat all the fights in the game, including zone 4. Timing starts when you click "Click here to START!", and ends when Sinjid has been defeated, and the game has faded out.

I'm in favor of banning this. If any% doesn't require the entirety of zone 3 anymore, the any% speedrun would become at least 15 minutes of setup, then a severely random amount of time to die to the first enemy, and finally to load back to the paladin fight, where we oneshot him, and end time. This is basically a credits warp with some random time loss, and the best time will be the person who gets the luckiest during that first fight. That would probably make for a very boring speedrun. Also every new run would require the same 15 minutes of setup, so it's basically an any% run where time only starts on the final boss.
So how do we ban it? Well, techincally speaking this run is New Game + (NG+), so if we disallow creating pre-made savefiles to load back into, we're done. However, you can't delete savefiles, which is an issue. This forces runners to run this game in incognito mode, without adblocker, which hurts a lot in my opinion. It is a solution, but I'm not happy with it. Luckily I don't run any%, so it's less of an issue for me.
Another solution would be to rename any% to any%-no loading glitch, and just ban the loading glitch from this category. Techically this would also create a new any% category where this is allowed, which is fine with me. The only issue I have with this solution is that this also immediately bans the debug mode glitch, which might be an interesting run, once we find a way to actually finish that run. However, that can also be fixed with a new category where the loading glitch is only allowed with empty save files.
The current rules are literally this:"Complete the third zone and trigger the last cute scene of the game in the least amount of time." I read this as follows: Completely play the 3rd zone, and get the final cutscene to play (I like the spelling error). However, 6 months ago, LuniRSC posted a video to the forum with a (for me) new glitch. Yesterday I thought of a way to make a technically legit speedrun for any% using these rules. We need to talk about this.
- Requiring you to play the entire 3rd zone feels weird for any%. We might need a revision of the rules, mainly to make it more obvious what is actually necessary and what isn't.
- We also need to discuss whether to allow this or not. And if we don't allow this, how will we ban this?
I have a small issue with Livesplit. It works fine, but if I try to record it using a window capture on OBS, it creates a massive black bar to the right and below the actual timer. Everything works still, but it overlaps the game capture unless I put the timer in the bottom-right corner. Is this a known issue and is there a fix for it? I've also considered making the timer transparant, which might be a jank solution too, but I've not yet found where I could do that.
Today I played my first multiplayer game, and it's not what you're thinking. I expected the lag to be worse, but it's actually wayyyyy better. The game also continues in the background while paused. So, in theory, opening up a multiplayer game and playing on your own there would actually be faster for the solo category. If anyone ever reads this, what do you think about that? Should I use it?
Hello everyone. I submitted a run for Satellite Reign https://www.speedrun.com/satellite_reign about a month ago, and it hasn't been verified yet. The moderator has once submitted a run like 2 years ago, and hasn't been active since. I tried to contact them through Twitch, Youtube and Discord. They aren't active on Twitch anymore, last stream was 7 months ago, but their Youtube is active with something completely different. I messaged them, and heard nothing back. I sent them a friend request through Discord, which they also haven't accepted yet, so so far, all contact has failed. I do want to get this game up and running, it has potential. Therefore I'd like to become a moderator for the page.
Thanks for the time. -Sowwhats
Quick update: It turns out that this is easier to do than you might think. Before the game starts, you can turn off autosave, and then you can load the save if you die at any point before saving. This does mean that you can progress before using this glitch. However, none of the progress gets saved, since the entire point of the glitch is that you load an empty save. I can't seem to find a way to get back into the actual game though, and I've tried basically everything. It does feel like there should be a way to use this, so I'll keep trying.
I'm also very certain that piercing shouldn't decrease per level, but that's happening too.
A report on my initial findings: You can click on the world map to get out of Undefined Zone, and into every zone in the game. Here you can enter all shops, all story fights and all training fights. The story fights can't load enemies, and so you win after a single turn. Then you level up, since XP has become NaN, and you can pick any amount of skills. Money has also become NaN, so you can buy and absorb any item in the game. Probably if this becomes an actual strat, the quickest items would be physical piercing ones from for the assassin, since they also give speed. You also become a destroyer, even if you didn't pick it before, which is interesting. Now, if we can do this as a setup, and continue the game, that would save about 10 minutes on any%, and about 15 on 100%, but I haven't found a way to continue the story battles, since none of the enemies load. All the training battles do load, but the ones in zone 4 have the same lvl as you, which turns into NaN for some reason, and that crashes everything. You can save the game, but you can only return to it repeating this strat.
