If you go to the category you're interested in running, press the "Show Rules" button, and then press "Category Rules" it will tell you whether emulator is allowed. Some categories allow it when you're starting, but have a cutoff time that it's banned to use for
I would be all for it, HD. And Rhombus, we don't need to go handing swords to everyone just to have conversations, the symbol doesn't mean anything. I'm against the thought of the power that goes with it being so readily given to people for no reason, which you haven't argued against because you know that I'm right.
I'd be fine with being supermod, it doesn't really mean much though. Either way it doesn't make a big difference. I'm very against the concept of adding most people here as supermods, I'll just be blunt and say that we've had many issues in the past with people abusing their ranks, and supermods are a hassle to remove and such, so I'd rather nobody get it other than Adam since it has no real benefit and a lot of potential issues. That said, whatever, both reasons that I don't take part in the community and that I often piss people off are valid, so I'm not a great candidate either as Death pointed out. If you guys really do want another supermod, I'd be willing to take the spot I guess. My vote would go to Nimbus as well, though. Smoof should also have his mod removed if we're being honest, he's surely not more active than either Sarcrai or Boohead. And I don't know how I feel about adding more mods, HD Nimbus and I are all very active with approving runs, we don't need more.
I would be more than willing to do all the effort required in frame counting runs, that's not a big deal
wow that would be a really good point if it had to be for every category
thanks for your input the brony games osu, always a pleasure
What you want to do is either hack your wii to get around the region lock, or get a japanese wii. We don't mind as long as you're loading the official disc. Freeloading is also acceptable, but Wii is somewhat faster, and I would say it's probably more user friendly
There has been some discussion in the Luigi's Mansion discord about a potential change in categories. It was proposed to remove Chauncey Key and Bogmire Key from the leaderboards, and replace them with A Rank and All Boos categories. These categories would be interesting because they vary from the current 100% route, and allow for runners to play to their strengths, either with money routing or boo catching. The Boss Key categories are rarely ran, and don't contribute much to the leaderboards. Please post your thoughts here on whether you support this change or not.
Yeah I'll just go ahead and pretend I didn't read anything, I don't care enough to delete your pb lol. You're fine. But yeah, running the JP disc with hacks is the way to go, totally allowed
I feel like if something like this were to be found useful, we would just make a glitchless category and ban text skips or something lol. For the sake of having the current No OoB route not become arbitrary
Like, if we're being real, the key categories really don't mean much of anything, and times without videos mean absolutely nothing lol. Don't worry about submitting to obscure categories if you don't have a way to record proof, imo
The rules for PAL will be as follows:
-You may run using any app loaders you wish, so long as you are loading from a disc. -My recommendation is to run with Nintendont if you have NTSC equipment.
-You may run it at any fps, so long as the game's time does not speed up. -The best way to check this is to time how long it takes you to walk across an open area and compare it to loading through the disc channel.
-You may not use any emulators or loaders other than those for an official PAL disc
I'm also going to add to the rules that Out of Bounds is banned, because I have confirmed it is possible. If anyone has any questions, complaints, or anything of the sort, please do speak up. It's worth noting that the reason this was decided was not to allow for some loading advantage, it was to make it fair for everyone. We want as many people as possible to be able to run PAL, while still leaving the competition as equal as possible.
With the current route, JP is more like half a minute faster on average, but that said, I don't disagree with what everyone else is saying, I just wanted to point out that the version differences are slightly more important with Hidden Room in the route.
Region unlocking isn't an issue, that's very easy to do (and might I add, with Priiloader, which will not brick your Wii). The issue is finding a way to load the game so that it can be seen on NTSC TVs without reducing lag or increasing the framerate of the game
Yeah, time ends on the chiming sound that the key makes when you touch it, and if you look, snap's timer also starts early
You want to hold the opposite direction of the ghost for 10 frames (hp drains 1 per frame for 10 frames, then 1 per 10 frames after that), then put the stick back to neutral quickly (optimally 1 frame), then hold it away for another 10 frames
I disagree strongly that allowing any platform, including emulators, is an even playing field. I have an SSD drive, I would save a lot of loading time over a runner who had a worse pc. I also disagree that it would be more accessible to everyone. While more people would be able to run, for sure, I doubt that most people have computers that are capable for streaming and running dolphin emulator at full FPS. When you really get down to it, there is no "free" alternative, or even a cheap one. Speedrunning costs money, whether it's in discs or cables or fast computers or spare controllers for when you smash them in rage.
I guess when you get right down to it though, for the easiest playing experience, emulator/usb loader would probably be the answer. I still don't think it's a particularly good answer, which is why this is such a hard topic to handle. Nobody is right.
