-moments later-
YEP, IT WAS THE ONLY BUTTON I HADN'T TRIED YET. D-Pad Down. SORRY. Thank you anyway! Hopefully this helps someone like me coming from the NES version, I guess. haha.
Hi all, I'm coming to this game from the NES version. I feel like I'm missing something really basic here, and apologies for that - for some reason, I cannot get a runner at 3rd base to steal toward home, no matter what I do. I'm trying to very clearly input Y + Dpad Left during the proper time, and everyone but the third base runner steals, every time. He just stays put.
Is there a special button combination you have to press? I made sure my left button was working fine. I also checked FAQs and the official manual, but couldn't find anything about this. nschnabel seems to be able to steal home with no issue. I'm probably missing something very obvious.
Thanks!
Thank you for clarifying!
Hey all! I just wanted to confirm this, because I see that NESCardinality's 5-Game Season run involves him skipping games.
For the lesser-game seasons, are we permitted to use his strategy for the 165-Game Season, and manually play out all of the games with gratuitous beaning?
OH gosh, thank you so much! That absolutely clears it up; I was taking damage in my testing. I'll be way more careful about that now, and make sure to count my slides. Cheers!
Hey! I've been thinking about running this game for a while, and I'm starting to get serious about it. I plan to do my first attempt soon, and I just tried facing West Germany via password to practice.
When I did this, the West Germany players were able to knock me down with their tackles, instead of knocking themselves down. There's a mechanic I'm missing, right? Or does this strategy not work when the matchup is accessed via password? Also, is Arturo the only Argentine player who can do this strategy?
Thanks; very excited about seeing how well I can do! I grew up with this game and have the cartridge right here, but do not currently have a working NES or split capture card, so I may start on emulator.
I'm glad there is interest for additional Balloon Trip categories, if only 100K for now. Thanks for all the quick responses.
It's a relief to hear that resetting after every run isn't -required- outright, for Balloon Trip specifically. If game resets after every run were required, most of the runs under 55s would be invalidated, because the RNG is very very similar after a game reset, and it's almost impossible to achieve a time less than 55s unless you keep trying again after deaths.
I'm aware of the general NES speedrunning rules, and understand the need for provable legitimacy. I would be willing to highlight two videos for my Balloon Trip PBs - one video which is the PB by itself, and another that shows the last game reset, so it can be proven that there were no save states used in between.
