Forgive my ignorance, but how do you "delete the SRAM file on the powerpak"?

I'll try to make a video tomorrow morning with what I'm doing, so anyone can evaluate.

What I'm doing from the start is having no files. Create file 2 with E?/Female/5, pressing A to "begin" and quickly resetting. Then I begin a new quest in file 1 as R/Male/8.

I notice as I'm walking to the King that the NPCs I have are moving differently than the NPCs from Vaxherd, and the movement I do in town so far should be same as WR video.

If the wrong seed is being loaded, how do I fix that?

Hey all, I have read and am trying to implement Vaxherd's glitched any% route.

I'm running into problems straight away with my character creation. I do everything in the notes and move exactly as I see in his videos. However, my NPCs are not moving the same as his NPCs and I do not create the party members (E and O) with the correct stats.

Does anyone have insight into why this may be happening?

What I'm doing: Starting from blank RAM, creating file 2 as E?/Female/5 and reset. Create file 1 as R/Male/8. I do the same movement (no bonking) inside Aliahan, talk to King, buys 2x Wings and go to make my party members.

I'm currently playing on PowerPak (if that matters...)

2Q is definitely a different beast of a run than 1Q. Much more about movement and less about combat (compared to 1Q). Also, the new Roocorder Glitch can be utilized to great effect in 2Q compared to 1Q.

I think fewer people run it because it's considered "harder" and there is less competition.

I agree (although the category isn't any%). Keeping "100%" seems fine.

United StatesRandomEffekt7 years ago

Can a moderator resolve this? Would be nice to have a firm decision?

United StatesRandomEffekt7 years ago

Yeah I agree, there really is no other argument for doing the levels in order except "it's always been done that way"...which seems like a silly argument.

I'll start a vote to say that I'd be in favor of saying you can play the levels in any order. It makes sense from a routing perspective and a speed perspective. In the words of LackAttack24 "categories shouldn't determine the route a player must take" which is why I'm usually against the "intended way" categories.

Well, no one is twisting your arm to play it. I find it relaxing sometimes in a stream since you literally do no thinking in the run. Just play and enjoy that sweet engine hum.

Has there been any finalization on this topic? The rules of the category still just say "complete all 4 levels". Are we sticking with playing in order or can we choose the order level?

What is it that you need help on?

I plan to run this in 2018 (as a promise to Cantaloupeme) so I would definitely appreciate a sub-12:30 guide for beginners. Thanks Komrade.

rwhitegoose has a nice agent tutorial on youtube here:

That would be a good place to start.

I was speaking of The Legend of Zelda (NES) board. https://www.speedrun.com/The_Legend_of_Zelda

I will throw this out there that the Legend of Zelda community now has sub-categories for the different versions within the main category names. This was done recently because version differences were found to be too dissimilar (as with here).

Possibly a sub-categorization can be done if people want it.

This may have already been suggested, but I think it would be a good idea to allow comments on PB videos. It would be a direct way to share excitement on the site as well as ask specific questions related to the video. I'm aware this can all be done in the forums on each page, but to have it on each PB video page would be more direct. Thanks.

Glad to hear! Yeah, I hate stiff d-pads for this game. I'm having controller issues at the moment and I need to find new ones.

EggsBagel, Here is a scrolling, clipping tutorial I did a while back. I currently use the "flick" method (with my right pointer finger) now for scrolling 1-frame movements because it's quicker and more consistent for the controller I use. You will have to play around and figure out what works best for you (everyone does scrolls a little differently).

I can definitely see it more as a "routing" choice as I described above. The only thing I would say is that if people decide it's right for Firehouse Rescue, I think it should be considered for ALL Fisher-Price NES games (since all have the level choice option).

United StatesRandomEffekt7 years ago

That is true, but I'll play devil's advocate here to say speedruns are almost never meant "to make sense from a gameplay perspective" :P
