We only know this one game- Military Madness. But this game is the first installment in the Nectaris series. This game is known as Nectaris 1. There is also Neo Nectaris (on the PC Engine CD, which already has videos of the levels completed, so just research which ones are the fastest), Nectaris Military Madness on the PS1 (do the same), Nectaris GB (on the original Game Boy), and Nectaris XBLA on both the Xbox 360 and PS3. There are also Cell Phone Military Madness and Military Madness 1 and 2 on Mobile.
See if you can find any other old WRs that complete the maps faster- and try to learn from them.
Map 4- 16:16
Map 16- 35:33
Although a leaderboard hasn't existed for this game until 2021, I recently came across an old player named Tank765k, who has uploaded videos (some with multiple Maps in one video, which will have to go for all the levels in those ones) of completing all 32 levels back in 2014! Some of them are still WRs today, and I doubt speedrunning was even the goal!
Those other challenges won't be necessary. They'll just be neat one-offs. 32 Maps with 2 categories like I suggested though? That should still happen. Maybe not separate win conditions, but 32 maps certainly.
Glad to see the interest in this game. I wish WCT and FLT could have the same.
Good work soldiers! I am happy to see that the work I started has been continued. All 16 main levels have been accounted for and completed. There are, however, a total of 32, with 17-32 only being accessible through passwords.
Also, I originally worked on two categories: Charlie and Annihilation, based on the two possible ways to win. This would show the full strategic capabilities more.
What does 100% entail? Getting all the Dances? All the Dances and Heart Containers?
By all means, they should be allowed. Just submit your time and don't even bother telling people you're using it.
There is one unlockable track not yet listed on the leaderboard: Asteroid. It is an asteroid belt in space.
ZChaotix is currently working on a new route. He is on BIOS Domain. Glad to see it, and started a new Guide. Feedback pls!
Here is a new idea for a 100% route. This may not be faster, but it's an excellent easy/safety route: Do the Bonus Games (to unlock Petey) or an Unlock Match with Nokonoko (aka Koopa) to get an extra Star Character, then begin Ring Attacks. You can use either (or both) to save lots of time in all four Ring Attacks, especially 1P. Star Shadow Mario is very helpful, so Star Nokonoko or Star Petey would be extra helpful, depending on how much loss of Control (for Petey) you can handle. You can always use regular Petey if you prefer.
There should be separate leaderboards/categories for Parts 2 and 3. If possible, include separate categories for Original (Japanese on console) and Translation (the English Translation). There is more motivation to run games when there are proper leaderboards for them.
Japanese is the cheapest, and probably the most different. There should be a Japanese category, and if possible, make it console only.
This isn't a Time Trial category, but rather a High Score category separate from Time Trials. It's Called "Highest Point Lead" aka HPL. I have already posted in on Super and 64 and I will post it here to see who's interested.
I have a video of what it's like. Here it is. This is to gauge interest.
This topic seems to be much better received by Mario Kart 64 players than Super Mario Kart players.
I guess players of 64 are the most hardcore!
Here it is- the introduction to HPL. Done on Super Mario Kart- and on the Switch (due to the control changing). This should give you an idea of what it is though. Let's get rolling!
Here it is- an introduction to what "HPL" is.
I just don't think 2P would work all that well because the gap is meant to be between 1st and 2nd. With 2P, the 2nd player could hang back and micromanage the CPU players.
It is. It was inspired by the 8th place challenge and has the opposite goal. It involves similar things to achieve the greatest lead.
