Starting on emulator, then moving to the real thing if/when you're WR-competitive, to me is a good rule to follow.
It costs some money but if you're that good the money can usually be raised. :)
I'm glad to here there's thought to it at least. Thank you for that.
I personally will take a look at a run if I've never heard of the runner, make sure it looks legitimate, though only a quick glance if the time is sort of reasonable for an unknown runner.
I'm only going to really 'verify' absurd sounding times from unknowns, and I'll even take those to the community to help if that ever happened. When a guy on Reddit spliced and TASed (yes, he did ¤both¤) a Zelda 2 WR run, I kept wondering if he'd submit it here.
If he had it would have been my first reject, heh.
Having a category without runs yet lets you put the rules up.
The nice thing about this site is runners can remove their own times once they're hooked into their account, so worst case things are resolved quickly.
That said I work permission-based anyway.
Does it really make sense to separate the Disk System add-on as its own console?
When there are version differences between the FDS version of a game and the Famicom version of a game? Yes.
Well, if I have to log in every single time I visit the site we'll see how often I get around to approving runs now.
This is all good stuff, but I'd like to see a 'converted time' option as well. For games where everything's the same but text, it'd be nice if we could do direct comparisons of versions on the same board, instead of having to segregate in order to avoid phony 'WRs'
This matters for the games where the clear best runners are running on a version that has more text (Legend of Zelda, Faxanadu, Little Nemo come to mind).
I'd be inclined to take a time ¤off¤ the board if that happened.
Showing flags would be fun. I know that for some US states and Canadian provinces, people really ¤would¤ want the state or provincial flag shown.
However in most cases the federal flags would be preferred.
It'd be nice if the player could just set location and flag separately. But definitely leave the state and provincial flags as options.
Edit: It occurs to me that's not an uncommon thing, recognizing nationality and current location separately.
I agree with i_o_l on emulator names in the table. That would be great for Zelda 2 FDS as well, for Powerpak vs Everdrive for people running on flash carts. Which isn't really... emulated fully but having a spot on the table for notes like that would be nice.
Nice work. I like the new nav bar.
Might want to add version adjustment support if the Japanese are coming though. For games like The Legend of Zelda (but not Zelda 2), Faxanadu, and Little Nemo/Pajama Hero, the games are identical apart from text, and so it's possible to directly compare times if you subtract an adjustment time from the English version.
Sorry if this is in the wrong spot.
That's really good work. I still need to figure out a top notch background for Legend of Zelda...
I ¤like¤ the ability of having a way to post all of my PBs in one place, moderated by myself, and not by a gatekeeper.
I use PBTracker for that currently. It replaced putting everything into a box on Twitch, which had gotten too messy to deal with .
A way to add arbitrary rows to my user page, choosing game, category, time, and video or not, could replace that. But it'd have to be free form to replace PBTracker, unmoderated, wild.
I like PBTracker.net because it's easy to use it for a raw, unfiltered feed of my runs. Any game I run, any category, any time, I can immediately put something up when I get a time for it. Video or not.
I like Speedrun.com because it works well as a community board.
I see the two sites as serving two different roles as constructed. PBTracker is good for competing against yourself. Speedrun is good for competing against others and building community.
Well in the case of Legend of Zelda, Zelda 2, Faxanadu, and Kung Fu, I'm just trying to move the nintendo-records/red candle boards here :D
Just submitted a few game requests because the situation is looking pretty good. Thanks,
