So I tried the PS1 version tonight. After giving the Genesis version a shot and failing to even beat level 9, I figured it would be easier. My god, PS1 version is brutal! The shapes move so fast that the shapes can move 2 spaces near instantly and go from 2 spots from the center to the center and give an instant game over, no time to react. Closest I got was 20 zoop clears from victory on level 10 (0 difficulty). Have any of you tried this on PS1?
All I know is I hope the SNES version (when it arrives) is a cakealk compared to Gen/PS1...
Game: Big Mountain 2000 Current mod name: 42 Offline for 5-6 months Forms of contact: Inactive Youtube account only I’m requesting to be added as a mod so I can add new Any% categories.
I would love to do speedruns of this game (I just played it on stream to know I am definitely interested) but right now there are only two categories and both of which are obscenely long and demanding for a racing game. It’s the equivalent of requiring 100% speedruns and not allowing Any% as a category when it should obviously be added. Shorter categories can be made easily, but the inactive mod never made any so in order to submit a run of this game it will require a nearly 1.5-2 hour run attempt. There are shorter categories that can be made, just like most racing game leaderboards have, thus making the run more appealing to new runners so they’re not required to spend 1.5-2 hours just to submit a run for 100%.
Yes, there are individual level leaderboards but I have no interest in individual level speedruns, my interest is only in RTA runs. I understand if my request is not approved because I don’t have a pending run but that’s because I just don’t agree with this board only allowing what are essentially long 100% runs, very off putting. Thanks for your time and consideration!
I’m curious if I ever did a speedrun of the Jaguar version if it would be added as a subcategory? I was thinking of giving the Genesis version a shot (the one I remember from childhood) but if I ever had a chance to do Jaguar I might try that too.
Just curious why there are so many JP runs? Is there a gameplay difference or text speed difference somewhere that would save time?
Requesting mod for the following two games:
Game: Toren Reason: the only mod/super mod has been inactive for 7-8 months. All of their social media is taken offline (twitch page is empty, twitter account is deactivated.) with no other ways of getting in contact. I have run the game in the past. Might be worth just removing Mace and making me the super mod since it seems like Mace has no intentions of returning or being contacted again based on their removal of all social media.
Game: OKAGE: Shadow King Reason: Current mod/super mod has not signed in for 5-6 months. As a way for them to never have to visit the site anymore, they made the change so that all the games they moderate no longer require verification. This is an issue for a game like OKAGE because it is a long RPG speedrun, and having WR runs get accepted without any form of verification is a problem. I am very knowledgeable on this games route/run (as I have ran it in the past) and would like to take on the responsibility of verifying any future runs and taking control of the leaderboard in general as supermod if possible.
Can anyone confirm that the only timesaves in this are in stages 5 and 10? I love this game but havent played it in a couple years. Wouldnt mind picking it up for a speedrun if there were enough ways to save time.
I used to run this game too (on ps4). Several of us (including Haiiskyee) tried tirelessly (for many hours between about 3 or 4 of us) to find a way into that well to skip the boss, I honestly don’t recall any of us finding a way to ACTUALLY skip it and get that well to load to the next level, which means...
It fades to black but fails to load the next level, or... Haiiskyee really DID find a way to skip that boss (possibly after I was done running it) but my memory can’t remember if her getting it to actually load was incredibly inconsistent and deemed not safe for a run, in which case this is likely her one and only time succeeding in the skip, hence the clip.
It also so happens that I am still in contact with her, so I will let her know about this thread and hopefully she can offer some insight.
EDIT: she got back to me and said that unfortunately when she performed that skip they later found out that her “game state was messed up.” Take it for what you will but it seems like something was not working correctly (something that would have made any run using the skip illegal) at the time of the recording. That’s all we can really say/contribute to this skip.
Well, I will say that we WERE able to enter the loading well a few times (which was insanely hard to pull off) and it Refused to load the next level, so don’t go crazy trying to crack this one, unless they changed the way the well loads in the current patch it is unlikely to even load into the next level even if you touch it.
I don’t think we can implement high score leaderboards, like Wiz said the site doesn’t really support that yet. I think adding Japan/west as a miscellaneous category should be fine, or if they work better as an individual level leaderboard (the more likely choice) we can do that instead. Let’s wait to hear from prisoner first.
I am for All Races category. I am also in support of sub categories depending on platform.
Langrisser Mobile, in particular, is very unlikely to be added to this site. Since game requests require a run video to accompany it and the nature of the game is gacha and the story mode takes MONTHS of daily play to complete. Amazing game though, I play it every day. Also keep in mind you will need a speedrun attempt video for any other Langrisser game you wish to moderate/add. You could always look into Langrisser Re:Incarnation on 3DS too, the only other game in the series to release in English.
Can we please have a “full game/all cups” leaderboard added? Some of us have no interest in individual level speedruns and would strongly prefer an RTA style run of all 3 tracks. With the release of the Sega Ages Switch version of Virtua Racing, I would love to be able to do a run like this.
Thanks for taking the time to post this here (as I don’t use Twitter TOO often). I hate Twitch’s new highlight tool, sorry I submitted an incomplete run. And yes, I recently had my Twitch name changed and completely forgot to change it on here, thanks for the heads up. Will have the highlight fixed soon.
Hey guys, been learning this speedrun and I do really enjoy glitch hunting. Spent several hours the other day looking for stuff and while I came up empty handed on anything major I did find 3 things:
In the desert, don’t do the weather vanes in the intended order. For the purpose of my explanation, assume the normal (game intended) order each vane is called 1,2,3,4. Do them in this order 1,4,3,2 not only is this route slightly faster, but it forces a glitch that only makes you sit on the big/breakable weather vane ONCE instead of twice to trigger the cutscene. I sit on the top most blade (the one facing the #4 vane) and it breaks instantly. Overall I estimate this route/glitch saves approx 25-35 seconds.
In the final scene of the game it is several seconds faster (3-5 seconds) to end the game by sacrifice rather than jumping. This could change depending on the cycle you get though and how long you need to wait for the “person” ahead of you to sacrifice. EDIT: After doing runs tonight I can clarify that ending the game by sacrifice is NOT faster since the cycle, no matter how well you move, you can never skip in line fast enough. Jumping saves at least 8 seconds.
Lastly, and this may need some testing, but if you hold forward and mash jump in the opening to the final chapter cutscene (right before the ball turns into the bird mask) it makes one of the npc characters (and possible the playable character) start running sooner while the cutscene is still loading on the black screen. You will actually hear the playable character make his jumping noises while the screen is still black.
Lower encounter rate, but using FF kinda evens it out. Encounters can sometimes take abnormally long to get though. X4 meseta and exp rate, FM Sound (which sounds amazing), graphical filters, monster guide (nice for 100% category), Able to use a Turbo controller to avoid mashing.
Chances are the runner may have no idea that a newer, longer version was released. In a lot of these situations, “legacy” leaderboards are sometimes made, usually as a Misc. category, as a way to archive and preserve the old version of the run (or depending who you ask, preserve a free WR for their profiles) and also as a way to give others a chance at competing, albiet on two different leaderboards. This runner has a lot of ways to get in contact with them, so try reaching out and asking if they’re ok with creating two seperate boards, one for the old and one for the new version. Don’t be surprised though if he has no intention of essentially deleting his run so that you can post yours without his still appearing as the “fastest” run.
Moderation Request for Game: Dark Cloud Page link: https://www.speedrun.com/Dark_Cloud/ There are only two mods, one has been offline for 3 years, the other for 2-3 months. Recently one of the mods (the only active one) retired from moderating the game, leaving it with two people who are very inactive. I have a run that has been pending for 9-10 days, but previously the same run was pending for 3 weeks with no response. I deleted it and resent it incase it was glitched (I submitted it about a day after that whole site-wide rollback) so really my run has been pending for a month.
I am very familiar with the run and the game in general, as I run both the NA and JP versions.
Looking to learn the run, specifically starting with Azure Swallowtail. Are there any resources to get started? A pastebin guide was mentioned in WR description but not only is the WR video not available anymore to view but there’s no link to the guide either. Thanks for any help.
Thanks, looking forward to jumping into this run soon.
I am most interested in Spyro 1. I have no speedrun experience with the original PS1 release which worries me because I am not sure how accurate the any% guides will be for reignited if certain routes or skips don’t exist. I know this game is filled with backup and advanced strats for gem collection, so I am not familiar if those same strats carry over to this release.
Idk if anyone plans on making an any% guide for Spyro 1 for Reignited, but in the meantime, which runner is the best to watch that doesn’t use strats too difficult for a new runner?
