Ahh yeah, I remember that thread now. I was trying to remember where I saw it in the past lol. I think non-time based runs would be easy enough to implement. An example of implementing on this site would be:
Name: Barrier Skip Bounty Time goal: Sub 8:00.00 or None Additional Criteria: Be the first to use the barrier skip in a full run. Provide an additional video with commentary on how to replicate the skip. Etc. Prize: $1000 by User(s)
After the bounty post gets modified/accepted by the mods, the mods should be responsible for verifying a valid bounty run. I see no reason for this to be site centralized, other than the Bounties page I mentioned.
As for the topic of cheating, (lol suddenly remembers my post in that thread), it looks like we couldn't come up with a solution for avoiding it. I really think it's up to the user offering money and the mods to set criteria to avoid cheating. In any case, cheating on a bounty should result in a permaban from speedrun.com. We should even ban players for cheating on smaller bounties, as they are probably the easiest for cheaters to do their work, considering most eyes will be watching the bigger prizes.
Then again, these are all nice features, but if srcom is really worried about cheating, they shouldn't implement this.
Actually, while handling bounties in the forum is great, we could spread awareness of bounties by setting them on leaderboards.
Users would set a time (default criteria) and any other optional criteria for a bounty to feature on the leaderboard. Mods accept, modify, or reject the bounty. The user is then responsible for paying out the prize, if there is one, once a run is validated.
Under the dropdown "More" on the srcom navbar, we could add Bounties. The default would be to categorize them by date posted, with completed bounties attached to runs at the bottom of the page. Further sorting options should include regular game sorting options, as well as prize amounts. Keep in mind that prizes could be nonmonetary and valued at a specific amount (example: An N64 remote valued at $35).
I think this would make the site more fun and create a new era for bounty hunters.
@3xotiC Join the mobile speedrunning discord, we have a ton of games to share: https://discord.gg/bpY8zeB I might try https://www.speedrun.com/cb first, it's a fun platformer.
Try Cat Bird, it's a nice mobile game to start with. Doesn't take much to learn and it's very easy to record and time. https://www.speedrun.com/cb
I think bounty goals can be set in forums, but it would be very cool if runs could be marked with a badge after achieving a bounty. We could set a custom image for bounty runs that shows up on the leaderboard (much like 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th). Default could be something clever, up to yall.
Ahh, looks like the runs were deleted as well. Sorry about that -- I think that's a new feature. I encourage you to resubmit your run to the high score category!
Hey guys!
We have three of us running this game so far. It looks like speedrun scores are mostly based on phone optimization and not skill. I'm going to remake the leadboard into a high-score based leaderboard. Any objections to this? I'll give you both a week to read this over before making the change. The speedruns will not be deleted, but they will be only be visible on your profile page.
@KuroNajin @DracaarysHorror
I was asked not to add highs score categories to my games until the high score update comes out :/ If you'd like, you can record a high score run and post it right here for when they finally bring that update :D
Good point! Other speedrunners might know better than I do about this matter. Let's say its not emu right now, and change it later if needed.
That's awesome, yeah totally! Just mark your run as being played on an emulator and mention it in the comments of your first run :D

Hey! There are several other balls and 3 boosters in the game that help with gameplay. We could either keep them all in one category or seperate it. Up to you :)
Hey, I believe this leaderboard deserves a full-game category, such as all levels. Should be a relatively short run. What do you think?

For instance, one of our users suggested No Brakes for a competition and it was selected (this week) :D
Lol it looks good, thanks for adding it! (Add a background if you feel like it)
@Angelaatje nice rant :D Do you check if the timer was started early or late as well? I often subtract less than a second off of my runs after rewatching frame by frame and finding I started my timer 0.XX seconds too early.
Edit: @blueYOSHI thanks! I never knew what that was for. Even so, this function could be better advertised (for instance, right after making a change).
There's a small bug that could affect large leaderboards if they need to change categories.
If I run the Any% of a game and submit it as Any%, a change to that category will make the run disappear. For instance, if I add the subcategories "1 Player" and "2 Players," all runs under Any% will disappear. Also, if I change Any% to "All Levels" or anything else, the runs will disappear. The only way to retrieve them is to find the original run on each profile, click "edit," and re-verify it. Re-verification with the category changes will put the run back on the leaderboard. This is odd and confusing behaviour and can be especially difficult for pages with hundreds of runs.
To combat this bug, it would be good to do one of two things:
- Auto-verify each existing run with defaults For example, verify each existing run with the additional default of "1 Player" and let the mods change it if necessary.
- Place all affected runs back into "Runs awaiting verification" (so mods don't have to track them all down)
Hope this makes sense -- if it doesn't, let me know and I can clarify. Even just a small pop-up message to warn mods of how to handle the situation would be good.
I agree with the above. This relates to @HowDenKing saying we should be able to make custom leaderboards aside from just Full Game and IL (see previous page of posts). @Alayan, with custom leaderboard pages you could have: Full-game Leaderboard GP Leaderboard Time-Trial Leaderboard Egg Hunt Leaderboard
Right now, I'm trying to decide how to add individual worlds into this leaderboard: https://www.speedrun.com/scbros Instead of making them ILs or Misc. categories for full-game, I'd instead want to create a custom Individual Worlds Leaderboard.
Custom leaderboards might also be a good way to consolidate category extensions into the original game page. Just create a Category Extensions Leaderboard.
Edit November 2019: Thank you for the addition of subgames! This helps!
I'm on Samsung S7 and use Game Screen Recorder to record my runs. I sometimes stream my runs using the YouTube Gaming app, which means no internal storage is needed. No timer is necessary for this leaderboard since we use https://github.com/Slush0Puppy/retime to retime runs accurately to the frame.
If you are interested in finding more resources for recording or timing on mobile devices, visit the Mobile Speedrunning Discord: https://discord.gg/bpY8zeB
There you will also find a great community of 350+ runners, competitions, and a ton of new games to play!
