Yes r96 and others repos based on older sm64ex code run faster, I use sm64ex and the speed up bothered me, so I had it fixed here https://github.com/sm64pc/sm64ex/commit/68e6e60a03f4bde10fb6830e5e882e0ca36093e1 The good thing is r96 is a separate category anyway.
