I've seen a couple games where the rules have bold text as well as links shown as words.
Look at NieR: Automata's rules and you'll see what I mean.
How do you do this? https://www.speedrun.com/NieR_Automata
I had some thoughts on fixing some rules as well as add some new categories and leaderboards. These are not finalized is subject to change.
These are just suggestion of what I think and is open for discussion, so let me know any thoughts and ideas. ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Questions
• Should it be called NG+ or Hard Mode? • Should milliseconds be added to submissions for more accurate times? Level Leaderboard should atleast use milliseconds for submissions. • Should we ban the use the codes that makes you start with 3 Rudras as well as the code for restarting a level with full health? ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Any%
Rules: • Time Starts: When press on "START". • Time Ends: When the text of Chiaki appears on the screen (it is the first frame of text): https://ibb.co/b7p3dk • Any use of codes are banned. • If an emulator is used, the original version must be played as the 'english patched' version of the game is prohibited. • Banned Emulators: ZSNES (all versions) and SNES9X (1.43 and below) are banned. ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── • NG+ (Hard Mode)
Rules: • You must access NG+ (Hard Mode) via the code (see guide) in the Config Menu. • Time Starts: When press on "START". • Time Ends: When the text of Chiaki appears on the screen (it is the first frame of text): https://ibb.co/b7p3dk • Any use of codes other than NG+ is banned. • If an emulator is used, the original version must be played as the 'english patched' version of the game is prohibited. • Banned Emulators: ZSNES (all versions) and SNES9X (1.43 and below) are banned. ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── • Level Leaderboard
Rules: • You must access the levels via Level Select (see guide). • (Not sure if should have this or not) You must use a Timer (through editing software) that starts and ends according to the rules below. Otherwise it will be hard for us moderators to decide what the actual time is. • Time Starts: On first frame when the screen becomes visible (after entering the level) https://imgur.com/a/WtFr2 • Time Ends: On first frame when the screen is completely black (after exiting a level) • Any use of codes other than Level Select is banned. ¤ • If an emulator is used, the original version must be played as the 'english patched' version of the game is prohibited. • Banned Emulators: ZSNES (all versions) and SNES9X (1.43 and below) are banned.
¤However in some stages (1-4, 2-1, 2-2, 3-1, 3-2, 3-3, 3-4, 4-3, 4-4, 5-1, 5-2, 5-3, 5-4) you will start with 50% of your health. Therefore using the restart option is allowed, however items such as scrolls are saved when restarting levels and usages of these is not fair competition. Therefore if you pick up scrolls and restart the level (L+R+A), it is prohibited to use any Rudras whatsoever during the entire duration of the level. If you however have not picked up any scrolls, you are allowed to use any item you further pick up during the level.
Found a japanese site which had some interesting codes, so I translated via google and found this.
Level select (Already known)
- On the title screen, select "CONFIG".
- Move the cursor to "MUSIC" and listen in the order of 009, 003, 006, 009. (There is no need to listen until the end)
- Return to the title and start the game.
- Pause and press L+R+X at the same time.
- You get warped to Level Select
Three Rudra
- On the title screen, select "CONFIG".
- Move the cursor to "MUSIC" and listen in the order of 005, 007, 002, 009. (There is no need to listen until the end)
- Return to the title and start the game.
- Zenki starts with three Rudra charges.
NG+ (Hard Mode)
- On the title screen, select "CONFIG".
- Move the cursor to "MUSIC" and listen in the order of 009, 005, 001, and 009. (There is no need to listen until the end)
- Return to the title and start the game.
- Starts the game on NG+ (aka Hard Mode). The same as beating the final boss (Evil Sorcerer Shijura) which then starts a NG+ or Hard Mode. You can now do this with just input the code.
Retry with full health
- On the title screen, select "CONFIG".
- Move the cursor to "MUSIC" and listen in the order of 009, 003, 006, 009. (There is no need to listen until the end)
- Return to the title and start the game.
- Pause and press L+R+A at the same time.
- Returns to the beginning of the level, basically a reset/retry. When used in boss fight you return to just before the boss fight.
Level select is already known but will help if one wants to practice levels or even run individual levels for a leaderboard. Starting with 3 Rudras probably shouldn't be allowed (unless separate category). The most important is starting the game already in NG+ (Hard Mode) without having to defeat final boss in order to start it. Then lastly the retry the level/boss with full health should also probably not be allowed, but good to know exist.
Any thoughts about this? ────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Original Japanese Source: http://super-famicom.jp/data/ki/ki_0009/ki_0009_01.html

Sorry to be so picky and all but when the boss is being "burned" and when Chiaki's text first appears does not happen on the same frame.
https://imgur.com/a/JQuPx When the first "explosion" appears is 3 frames later than when Chiaki's text first appears. So which one is it?
Hey, so I'm going to submit my run but I'm not sure what time I should put as I want the most exact time possible.
My question is what does "when the final boss is defeated" really mean? When does the final boss count as defeated?
- Is it when the last hit connects?
- Is it when the final boss's health is fully depleted?
- Is it when Chiaki's text appears on screen?
Because as of now the rules for when the time ends is rather ambiguous and not specific so it's hard to understand what you really mean. Sorry if I'm making this a big deal, I just don't want to have my time to be later than it actually is.
I personally don't really care which way is used and it doesn't really matter unless two seperate runs are close enough where 5-6 seconds might determine who is the faster, in that case it might be worth switching to a specific way of timing for all runners. As for now it doesn't really affect that much because everyone are several minutes away from eachother anyways so untill runs are close to eachother it is fine for now.
And yeah, the duplicated rules is now fixed.
Hey guys, Nordanix here. I'm not a runner but played through this game a while ago and messed around on Chapter 5 and 9 where you have access to the Cloud and found a couple things that might be useful in runs. Many of these might already be known or just not useful/risky but might as well post it just incase.

These are mostly videos of potentional use in runs or leading to further optimization. I'm sure more stuff can be found since the Cloud is quite janky.
There are a bunch of other stuff but mainly alternative ways of getting launched from collission with different objects so not really useful and would be too much to record and upload.
Hopefully this might be of use. Just hit me up if you wonder anything.
If we're not planning on changing the rules in terms of when time starts, meaning we keep it the same way when, then we need to make sure all runs are timed fair.
For example Ico and Sympy starts time when they press to skip the first cutscene, which means they are about 6 seconds (depends how fast or slow you are skipping it) and is not fair for those who doesn't do that, especially when that is what the rules state.
So if we don't change the rules atleast adjust peoples times to reflect a fair comparision between all the runs. For as it stands my time is 2:37:51, and if I would do the same timing method as Sympy and Ico, then I would be around 2:37:45 which does make a difference. I don't really care which method we use, as long as all people's runs are equally timed.
Otherwise I understand with the names and that's reasonable. Also, the Level Leaderboard still has duplicated rules, please fix that.
