So i have a bit of a dilema on my hands, and it is time... i have very little of it. but i still LOVE to run games. I need help to find a new one, and difficult limits to fit a game into.
Almost definately has to be a 2D platformer. Preferably playable with just keyboard, but this one isnt a hard limit. general speedrun needs to be around 30 to 40 minutes when compitent (Shovel Knight takes me about an hour with a PB of 49:10 when practicing) or less. under 20$ on steam. no emulators.
any suggestions are super helpful. games i am already looking at are Ori and the Blind Forest, Hollow Knight, and Hyper Light Drifter (though i know vwry little about thier speedruns, they all look fun)
I will most likely be running Any% without any major glitches, maybe all A-sides depending on what I feel like running. But I saw a few things in part of a speedrun (a 32:XX run) and I feel like I need a crash course in basic techniques for this game. Just a good beginners guide on things I will need from beginning to end in a run. As well as any huge skips in levels that I will need to know.
I havn't finished the game for a casual runthrough, so please avoid spoilers as far as story things go. Help is appreciated ^_^
So i am not sure if i am just unable to find the information or what, but i cannot find rules for submissions. Do they require a video? saved splits? email?
and another note, which is much more open ended, is that if i would like to use my laptop to record runs, twitch or otherwise, wjat are some good programs to use? I am currentoy using LiveSplits for splits.
So as the title says, I am not sure how to get started running. I want to start running Shovel Knight. It's still fairly current, especially considering other games, and I enjoy the hell out of it. Plus, more characters to try and speed with once I feel competent with Shovel Knight as a character in runs. I got some speedrunning software, LiveSplit specifically, and I have finished the game through once with more minimal stats than as much health and magic as possible, but still with plenty. Watched a few videos to help get a feel for special movements, such as shovel cancels, backhop, how to shovel ground objects mid air, etc.
All that being said, finally starting to try and speedrun it is incredibly daunting. I am prepared to replay levels, but I don't know anything about how to start a speedrun, in Shovel Knight or otherwise. I have no idea how to train effectively (aside from running the levels til the game is over, eventually remembering all 10 stages at a time, which feels very inefficient after a very short amount of time) I can watch speedruns all day long, and I basically have, but aside from trying to remember all worlds in 40+ minutes, I don't know how to proceed.
Any and all advice would be very appreciated, specific to shovel knight or otherwise.
