PanamaI believe you can exit out of the world you are running, but it gets disqualified once you create or play another world.
So basically, no.
The only categories where you can practice a seed beforehand are SSG and SRG. In SSG you can practice as much as you want any seed. In SRG you can scout a random seed for 10 minutes, then run it right after.
If you want to practice a seed for WR, then check out the seed that most SSG players play.
The strategy says that the portal can't spawn below 3 stairs, but I'm pretty sure this world has it after the 3rd stair: 
Maybe it's an exception because the first stairs where on the upper part of the first room, or maybe the portal can spawn after the 3rd stair.
Edit: I got another stronghold with the portal below 3 stairs again, but this time the first stairs were linear to the first room.

If you can buy the game, buy it. If you really are struggling then pirate even though it is still not recommended.

It pauses the game without the pause screen, so it looks pretty much as if it was unpaused. Sorry if I didn't explain that correctly
I'd say pausing to e-ray (locate bastions), do necessary IRL stuff, or doing stuff like reducing or increasing chunks that requires you to go to the pause screen is fine. The issue is when you exploit pausing like Brentilda did at the start of the run and when entering the nether to analyze the world while losing the least time possible.
Another thing... imo, F3 + Esc should not be allowed. Its only purpose is to exploit pausing.
