sorry for the late response, but yes, there is a difference with ACNL & ACNL:WA. For Welcome Amiibo, in the intro cutscene, Isabelle will explain the MEOW coupons to you, which can take up time in a run. There are also some other minor differences, but overall ACNL:WA is slightly longer which could make a big difference in shorter categories like First Debt.

In a Twitter post today on @animalcrossing , they said that they would support cloud saves. I think this might make running the game more accessible, once they roll out the save data transfer feature later this fall. Many have expressed the same interest as you, and I agree that it is unfortunate that we can't play casually and run at the same time. Hopefully this issue will be resolved with the new features. There's also the option o homebrewing your switch and extracting your save file that way, but I'm not how comfortable you are with softmodding (I've never done it so I can't speak from experience)
Not sure how speedrun-friendly this would be. Also we'd have to think of when to stop the timer and what counts it as a "barren" town. I don't think this would get any runs, and thus we'd just have a 1-run category. Interesting idea though.

I just reread your question, and to answer the "how do I change the camera" question, I personally hold my gamepad like this, so that I can move my camera without moving my fingers. Kinda clawgrip-esque but it works well. https://gyazo.com/751b282b07872240ecf9d304bc7f34cb
I personally use something we top-level runners like to call nose-strats. Pretty much how it works is your hold the gamepad normally, and when something comes up you quickly hit the gamepad with your nose so you don't have to take your hand off the gamepad.

Hello. Sorry to bother, but the moderator for Sphere Complex seems to be fairly inactive. ( https://www.speedrun.com/Sphere_Complex ) I recently submitted a run, and plan on doing more as I enjoy the game, but he has not logged onto SR.C in 3+ months, and his last tweet was from June so I doubt he checks that much, and his twitch profile seems practically dead. Since I plan on running more and this isn't just a one-time thing I need you guys to approve, and since I hope to get some friends running this, I kindly ask for you to please make me a moderator for this game. If you look on the sidebar of speedrun.com, you'll see there's "Full-game Leaderboard", and right under that is "Level Leaderboard". You click on Level Leaderboard, and it will drop down with every galaxy. Click on the one you want to submit to, and then you can take it from there.
