I was not able to replicate the disappearing molded, I tried quite a few times. I did however find a strat that works very consistently and is very easy to do. It makes this part cake.
I used infinite ammo up to this point just to get there quickly, but the part I am at here I only had meds and the first knife. It should be even faster with the upgraded knife.
Indeed, that healing thing is something I noticed while running my knife runs before. WHenever I was stupid low and didn't have any items on me, I would usually get an herb or med in one of the rando boxes. I am 85% sure there is a variable at play somewhere in there.
Also, CONGRATS ON THE RUN! Did you have any other spot that was hard for you?
On one play through I ran through with all weapons and all of that to get to the spot so I could grind that area over and over. That is the run that I found this strat on.
On my other playthrough, I went through all of it on Madhouse with knife only. I got hurt during my first jack encounter and left myself at low health hoping it would enable more health items to drop. I did indeed get quite a few meds from crates, any of them I got I put in the crate to save for later to try and see if it would give me more... it did seem to do so. Though, it could have just been RNG on my side.
Also, I have been trying out this strat a few more times. I think it may be the back and forth motion that is honestly doing it. It may bug out her animations? I have seen her flailing about awkwardly a lot every time I have done this run through, however.. I have made it through the pit part using only 4 meds and 1 steroid, it works even better if you stand up in the corner and bait the bugs in to attack, then crouch. You then take no damage from blocking and they completely miss you.
Edit: Also, I am not a fan of the defense coin... it seemingly does pretty much nothing so I just skipped it on my knife only run on Madhouse.
So, I finally found out a strat after spending about 3-4 hours on this damn part of the game. I hope this will help everyone in their runs.
I went in there after getting every single healing item and defense coin possible.
Even with this, I died multiple times... it was extremely aggrivating. HOWEVER! I started to notice something, after you kill off a certain about of the large bugs and smaller bugs, you can hide off in the corner and leave ONE of the large bugs alive. It will sting at you, but she will no longer spawn the swarms.
Hello! I have been working on strats for Jack and I have found an extremely consistent one. It is incredibly easy and it makes the fight honestly a breeze.
Just stand in front of him and melee, duck and look at his left knee whenever he goes to swing and he will miss you every single time. He will never use another attack as long as you stay directly in his face as I did in the highlight.
The run itself that this was from was my best run, it would have been a sub hour 2 run.... buuuuuuuuuuuuut fatties at the end trolled me and I died to Eevie because I got cold feet. Live and learn I suppose! I hope this helps some people out as I found this to be the second hardest part of a knife only run.
Good luck and spam slash
Using the magnum makes it EXTREMELY Short on Easy NG+.
The fatty route you are using honestly sounds faster than killing them. I will need to mess around more on that area of the game. It is seriously a nightmare -.-
I also have been playing around with the knife a bit more and looking for "Sweetspots" like in the old games. If you crouch infront of molded and aim for their torso but have their legs/arms in the hitbox it will register it as 4 hits all at once. I need to practice it a little more to perfect it, but it is useful to know... even if you run past 99% of molded encounters n_n
It is faster to get in and out of the car and spam knife him. In two crashes he is dead. Just hug the side of the car and run with him as he moves. You do not take any damage and it is very simple.
For the chainsaw Jack fight I came up with a pretty nice strat since using a chainsaw is not allowed. Stand at his back and dance from side to side, he does an animation of looking over his shoulder and he will not attack unless you stay too long on one side. Though, if you move with his attack it will completely miss you. Honestly, the hardest part of the Jack fight is the first phase when he just chain throws you.
For the bug pit, I found it very helpful to spam climb up the ladder. Just keep doing it over and over , she spawns a shit ton of bugs. Then when you get hurt a bit too much fall back to the left corner and heal/slash the bugs. They will not hit you in the corner at all. This part is a very simple/easy encounter as you just rinse repeat.
Honestly, Large Marge fight was really easy and self explanatory. It was honestly a tittle -too easy.
Ohhhh boy, giant Jack is an issue for me. Getting that last eye under his tail is a bitch and a half seriously. Though, recently found out that you can spam slash the general area and randomly you will get lucky and hit it. This should help improve time on this fight -a lot-
Hardest part of the entire run is the two fatties at the end IMO. If you do not get lucky and get the chance to run past and climb up the ladder you are in deep shit. Kill the smaller one first via crouch spamming/strafing around them and move on to the next. I never have a single bit of luck on this fight and end up having to kill both of them. #Feelsbadman
As for the final fight, you can run up and spam slash her face. When she opens her mouth/lurches forward turn around and run back towards the wall. After she stops making the growling...weird noise you can turn back around and continue slashing her face. Also, Mia's knife does not register damage AT ALL for this fight. I am unsure why.
These are some notes I have taken for a knife only run and things I have noticed during my runs. I hope they can help out people trying for a good time, I personally found it a lot of fun running it! My best time is 2 hours 13 mins and 2 seconds. I really hope to see more people doing these runs more so we can find knife friendly routes/strats!
