The glitch appears to be timing based. So we mash in the map section of the HUD in the hopes that we hit on a frame that will warp us.
There is no need to wiggle the cursor around either. Just imagine there are hidden blue squares on the map that represent doors. The upper-left is a door to the bathroom, top-right goes to the bedroom, etc. There is also one in the upper middle area that goes directly to the police.
These hidden doors are consistent whether you warp from the doctors office, or the weird room. So the square you clicked on for the sewer is just below the bedroom door. Its just one of many different doors you can use while glitched.
I hope that all makes sense!
Proper credit goes to Emptyeye who initially pointed out the glitch state when using capsules on untaken medicine!
I made a map for this game some time ago. Perhaps someone may find it useful.

I just finished putting together a map of this game.
You can find it here: https://vgmaps.com/Atlas/NES/index.htm#GolfClubBirdieRush
I didn't put that many attempts on Pebble Beach and it's been over a year so I don't remember much, but it looks like you are really close to taking the record! If you do, then I'll gladly come back again. Also make sure to try out Wicked 18 sometime. It has to be my favorite of the TGC trilogy.
Console & Emulator runs have now been combined to simplify the leaderboard.
I think the benefit of having a new category outweighs any downsides of potential cheating which I think is pretty low for a game like Pipe Dream. I am one of those people that enjoyed routing this with a known seed value (which is still wide open for improvements), but I doubt I can compete at the highest level without it. I think the runners that can play this "normally" should be recognized for their skills with a new category and for now we can just rely on good faith.
We're all here to have fun, but right now it's not fun for those that don't want to play with RNG manipulation.
I agree that a new category which does not allow "Give Ups" is worthwhile to have and would definitely be more challenging.
As for how to name the categories I do usually try to keep them short if possible. Maybe something like this:
U.S.A. Course (No Give Ups) Japan Course (No Give Ups)
Would it make sense to rename the current categories too by appending (Any%) or perhaps that is already implied in comparison with what the new categories will be named? I'm fine with leaving the current category names the way they are now.
Honestly, I'm pretty open with whatever makes sense.
Can we have the Mega Drive version added just like the other TGC boards? I am looking forward to putting in some attempts for this game 😈 🏌️
I just wanted to say thanks for all of the work put into normalizing this leaderboard. I know this isn't the most popular golf game out there, but all of the effort is certainly appreciated.
More great suggestions! I'm happy with whatever is ultimately done as it just wasn't ideal the way it was before.
If somebody is crazy enough to run all courses, then I'd probably have to give it a shot as well, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to take that plunge just yet.
I think it's confusing to have both a main category as well as individual level categories. Currently, there's only a "USA" main category but that course also appears under individual levels. Does that mean the same run would be submitted for both?
Perhaps it would be best to just do one or the other. I know it would suck to remove the main category all together and therefore lose all of the historical runs submitted there, so how about we also add the other courses as separate main categories as well?
I'd be happy to re-submit my runs if that were to happen, then we can just completely drop the individual levels :)
I would like to see an "Any% Deathless" (or Any% Warpless) category added. This would require a much different route through the game and would be quite challenging!
