You can do TAS cycle RTA with practice. Yeah it improves the IL record, but I just haven't submitted to the IL leaderboard. Here's me getting a 458 in my low% PB (starts at 2:20): It could be faster if I used fire flower to kill bowser jr.
I've tried messing around with it some and I couldn't figure it out really. Hopefully you can figure some things out while TASing.
holy crap congrats on the new PB, ILSMB! I want to retime the loads to get the most accurate final time before submitting it, so I hope you're okay with it being delayed a little bit.
Here's a video of me getting it on a run that didn't get the shell in 1-2:
It's a bit harder to do when starting as shell mario though in my opinion
So I guess the only major timesaves left in any% are this and TAS cycle lol
:O going for the jump in runs!
noooo :(
Do you have video of the rest of the run? I'd love to see it!
I don't think the comparison to the walljump in 8-4 is very accurate, because the walljump has two very clear visual cues.
Could you get a video of you doing it with the input display turned on? I'm not sure I completely understand the inputs.
Sorry that the naming is confusing. Unfortunately there's no way for us to change the text for with/without loads. We were planning on calling them "real time" and "adjusted time" or something to show that one column had the loading times adjusted.
Yeah this has been known for some time; the cannonless TAS (I highly recommend watching) uses it in a few places.
I've done the midair jump on accident probably 4 or 5 times. I actually did one in my current PB at the end of 8-5!
Awesome that you found a setup though! Thanks for looking into this. TASes can do a lot of cool stuff with the shell, as seen in the cannonless TAS.
yeah what cros said. The mushroom house backup only loses like 10 seconds
Star for first looks good, but I think the shell is a better representation of this speedrun because it's such a big part of it. Love the speedrun.com logo; will update that now.
Just got done watching your PB, and it was a great run! Congrats again.
Thanks, these are great! I think it would be fitting to have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd be a blue shell, a fire flower, and a mushroom or something. Did you change anything for the background? It looks about the same except for having the logo.
Also, congrats on your PB! I just got home and will watch it now
Yeah what cros said. And if you get a pixel stop and hit the star block on accident you can get it for safety if you want, but I don't think that even saves time over ignoring it.
I use the button layout of B/Y for run and A/X for jump, and I use my thumbs for everything and hold the DS normally.
Yep, this is what I do too. Especially for swimming; like in the long vertical section in 8-3. I use my thumb for both buttons.
I'm making an any% tutorial right now and in it I'm showing the route that keeps the shell until 8-8 because I think the safe strats with the shell are easier than with fire. The strats I did in my PB are hard, so I wouldn't try learning from that. You can message me on youtube or something if you need help with stuff.
Thanks! Congrats on your PB. I just watched it, and I've never seen that strat to lose the shell (in 8-C) before.
Ahhh sorry, I was gone all weekend for my brother's college graduation ( PogChamp ). I'll verify the run now
