It's a dirty job but somebody's gotta do it
Saludos!
@Oreo321 While that's partially correct, that leaderboard would only be for the PC romhack of the game. If you're running on the original N64 console version (and not on emulator), the leaderboard would be this one instead: https://www.speedrun.com/goldeneye_007_n64
...and just to clarify, the rankings for GoldenEye are largely mirrored from https://rankings.the-elite.net/ anyways, so you probably want to check that out too if you plan on submitting runs.
Something very similar has been discussed here. While it's not exactly the same, I think most of the reasons being pointed out in that thread can be applicable to this discussion.
In essence, these "speed points" would be a meaningless metric, as with the wide variety of available games on this site you can't really compare the level of complexity of 1 WR vs another. One could be highly optimized run with a lot of top-level competition while the other could easily be a random miscellanous category the mod created just to get a free WR, but both would get the same amount of "speed points", implying they are equal.
There's also the matter of game genres, length of games, platforms (PC/Console), main vs miscellanous categories, etc. Attempting to unify them all under one leaderboard is nuts and doesn't really tell us anything about the runners themselves or their level of commitment to their respective games. So why bother?
Great to hear man! I just checked the main page and confirmed I can see Followed Games runs again.
However, I did also notice that now it's the reverse: while I can see runs from Followed Games, I can't see runs from other games anymore, even with the main stream disabled in my settings (which didn't use to be the case). Was this intentional?
EDIT: Just checked again, now I can see runs from both Followed Games and other games at the same time. Yay!
Given how the site keeps dying on me today, I'm going to make an educated guess and say that this is probably an effect that stems from the site having a bad day rather than being a decision from ELO themselves.
...that being said, I am just guessing here.
Y'know, GTA V first released for PS3/Xbox 360, to then go on and get an updated version for PC/PS4/XboxOne (fancier graphics mostly), and now getting a third release for PS5/XboxSeriesX.
I still consider running GTA games as masochism, but it does fit your criteria.
As a follow-up to this, the site announced not too long ago that they were working on a package of improvements for mod tools, which included allowing mods to browse more than 50 pending runs. We don't exactly know when these updates will be rolled out, but at least they seem to be in the works.
You can read up on it here: https://www.speedrun.com/news/676-2021-4-14
If what you're looking for is to get some help setting up a new Load Remover, you can try joining the Speedrun Tool Development Discord and ask any questions there. :)
Well, to be fair the site was just giving them an honest answer to their inquiry.
It just so happens to be accompanied by a temporary ban, but that's just a minor detail.
You may like all the games you've ran in the past (I certainly do), but that doesn't mean you won't feel a few of them are actually more complex/take more skill/are better optimized than others.
Without going that far though, people do have personal preferences amongst their list of liked games, so being able to sort games on your own profile doesn't sound too farfetched.
Since ELO asked us to think about possible widgets to put on the sidebar for the User Profile, I'd wager a widget that makes a graph of PB progression for games you've ran sounds like a really interesting suggestion, and it would actually be interactive so it would hold more value than a mere picture.
Perhaps you could pitch the idea to them through the Support Hub? I don't know how feasible this is, but it would be awesome to see something of the sort implemented.
