If this works with chase camera you can autopilot without going back to cockpit view.
I've broken IL records of Wing Commander 1 during attempts a bunch of times lol.
Finding a strat that cut out half of a mission in Wing Commander 1, improving the IL time from a 3:40 to under 2 minutes.
I used to run Castlevania 2 back when 48 and change was a good time.
Cool stuff! I live in the area, you might see me.
I'm hoping Wing Commander gets in; I did get a 16:xx shitty practice run video up on twitch. Pretty bad rng and I'm still out of practice, fuck. Going to try to get more practice in this week and at least give you guys a sub 15 video to look at. :P
Of course! One more "obscure" (at least in speedrunning) game for the pile. :)
Crouching only SMW any% race?
Submitted Wing Commander and the suggestion of a Crouching Only Any% SMW race. With alcohol. Lots, and lots, of alcohol. >_>
Excuse the lack of videos, most of what I did on WC1 was done before SDA allowed the run and before streaming speedruns was really a thing. I'm starting to get back into it now, but the RNG has not allowed me to complete an any% attempt yet.
Don't worry, I'll try to do safe strats in a marathon, that's why my estimate was 20 minutes. Should stay sub 15 but I want buffer in case I die.
If I can get a marathon safe run I'll probably pitch Wing Commander any%, that game needs more hype and I love the SPCA. We'll see how the next week or two of banging on it goes - but I have the unofficial WR right now and plan on breaking it after I'm done de-rusting, as my new strats are much speedy.
I don't think I'll be practiced up to run anything else, but I can mess around with the whip drops on Castlevania 2 to see if I can pick up Seawolf's new route. Way back in the stone age I was in the running for WR on that game, but I think those guys have cut almost 20 minutes since then. >_>
Hard to remember, I used to speedrun Zelda 1 back in like 2003 when the only speedruns board was gamefaqs. Then it went away for a long time, and ...I guess it was SGDQ 2011 that really brought back the inspiration? Idk. At some point I picked up Wing Commander, realized nobody was running it and the one guy routing it thought it was a 40 minute game, dropped a 13:48 and got discouraged when SDA wouldn't accept dosbox captures at that point (they do now, largely because of me, but the footage was lost!).
Now I have time and inspiration to run again, and I have a few new strats.
I love routing, and the community is very friendly and chill. The competitive aspect really brings back a lot of good memories of Pokemon before the community got all e-sports toxic.
If speedrunning ever gets that bad, I'm posting a challenge run for "chug a bottle of draino".
...remember the SRL category for "2L of coke" on a funnier note? That was so fucking stupid.
I love games with piles of clever routing; people will likely best my times on execution once they get popular. Really though, a good speed game for someone is one they can just re-run a million times and enjoy.
Not perfect, ended up having to rebuild my joystick instead of streaming WC1 de-rust last night, but it's all fixed so I should be good to go. It's good to be back in the speedrun world, and that there are so many more people now is AWESOME.
Yes. SRL is focused on race content and the streamers that get frontpage promotion have to be racers. :)
PackSciences has it pretty close - if the run is significantly different, the wr of the old strats should be tagged as "former world record". If it's just the same run, then you got beat. Be happy your record drew enough attention to the game for you to get beat, don't be a douche
Wing Commander. Trying to get it going here and giving it a life in this big, beautiful speedrun world we now have.
Hey nerds. Some of you know me. I have been known to fly spaceships really, really fast. I also play Zelda and helped route some cool Sketchy stuff in FF6 (shoutout to Brossentia for doing 90% of the work). I kinda disappeared because of Eve Online and League of Legends, which was an entirely bad decision. Speedrunning is healthier, and I love this community so much.
Expect Wing Commander to make a comeback around here, streamed live whenever I can. SDA has allowed Gog runs, and there are other places now like this site that will host runs like that. As far as I know I'm the only one who runs it right now, but maybe we can change that and get some competition going.
I plan on trying to bring more attention to classic PC games, help route them, and hopefully establish and hold onto a couple of my (previously unofficial) records.
I also like to race the zeldo. Always up for randomizer or any%, but I really need to de-rust. A bunny is also trying to make me start speedrunning payday 2.
