Sorry for taking so long to verify, I must have missed the email notification and haven't been on this site for ages.
Oh I know that dark mode is important^^ A user asked for a light mode version of a website I built in dark colors and I was like "What the fuck is wrong with you?" xD
Yeah, version number needs to be adjusted by me (or another mod if someone wants that job xD).
"no dark mode" You lost me there °J°
But seriously, this looks great! Thanks for putting in the effort!
Edit: added the link to Resources, so new runners find it more easily.
Apparently my notifications for this forum weren't set correctly, which is why I only now saw this D: Thanks for shouting out the run :D
For those that want to leave a comment on the run, here's the YT vid:
FINALLY all platforms (that I can check, but I assume Xbox One as well) are at the same patch level! And we've got the promised 6th stage (or rather 5th, as it was added before the final stage xD). I moved the previous categories to Misc. and created a new one for all to enjoy and submit new times to.
Enjoy everyone :D
I really enjoyed my time at the venue. It was my second time at such an event, first time volunteering and running.
Pro:
- The venue is extremely easy to reach, perfectly placed near a large mall and several food places, and the staff is incredibly nice. It's also nice that the hotel donates to Unicef for each day you explicitly ask them to not clean your room. Supporting two charities at a single event :D
- Free ice cream is always nice, even during the cold months.
- Everyone is just so incredibly nice, it feels more like a family get-together, even if you don't know the people yet. As someone who is really introverted it took me this second visit to get out of my shell more, but I really should not have worried even during Summer '19.
- Stream 2. It was nice that I could show off a really unknown game this way, as I am sure it would have never made it into Stream 1, simply because there aren't many people interested in it. So please, definitely keep Stream 2 for future events!
- Fundraising team. Everything was extremely well organized. Everyone on the team was really helpful, be it covering shifts or simply getting you a refill of water during your shift. There were no real hiccups along the way, so this is how it should stay (or be improved upon).
- Info screens for runners, showing them that there were donations or messages to be read. This way you don't have to interrupt them during their run, but they can tell you on their own when a good time would be.
Con:
- Timing of advertisements/not being able to manually control when advertisements should not be shown. During FF9 on Stream 2 they did the Cleyra Dance at the venue, only for chat to mention that during that performance there was an ad break.
- For the SMB Relay it got a bit hectic, since there was no info on where and when to meet for the run. Nothing too bad, but that could have been organized better.
Many pros and just a few cons means that this event, in my book, was really good. Keep it up, everyone!
Not to my knowledge. Seeing that currently noone is actively running it and even when they were, it usually were only two people or less, the mods probably didn't think it reasonable, I guess.
I'd really love for that to happen. This game does not get the recognition it deserves in my mind. Tried to get it into the ESA (European Speedrunner Assembly) marathon twice now, unfortunately with no luck. Probably because it is a rather long run with not much really technical going on, no glitches, no wrong warps etc. That's just what it feels like, maybe they just didn't trust an "unknown" runner with such a long time slot or something like that xD
I threw in a follow on twitch, since I'd like to catch your Fox n Forests streams when they happen :D
Hey there, nice to see a new runner :D
So after beating the first boss you'll want to buy the Double-Jump Spin Attack and the first Melee Attack Upgrade. For that you need at least 2 grindstones and 900 coins (as you can see in my WR run I left 1-2 with exactly 900 coins and had none left after buying the upgrades).
After beating the second boss you should have at least 900 coins to purchase the Stomp Attack. That allows you to get all 5 magical seeds in 3-1 so you only need two more after 3-2, which means you can collect the two in 1-1 which is shorter that collecting two in 1-2, as two of the three remaining seeds are pretty much out of the way.
After beating the third boss and collecting said additional magical seeds so that you have all 24 needed to unlock the winter stages, You should have two bottles in your inventory to buy a fire and a lightning potion to beat the final boss quicker (30 coins each). No Upgrades bought here, because we don't have the 6 grindstones required for the second Melee Attack Upgrade yet.
In my mind I was under the impression I got to 6 grindstones in 4-2 to buy the second Melee Attack Upgrade, but apparently I didn't... well what do you know, guess I mixed it up with the 100% route xD In case you want to get that, it's 1200 coins, but you should have that money no problem at this point.
The textbox glitch is just mashing the skip text button during the transition, as you can apparently skip the text before it's shown, therefore leaving the text on screen. Nothing that realy saves any time ^^
Just a quick heads up on the Xbox One/PS4 category: These currently only exist, because on these consoles the latest patch is not yet available, making the game easier than on the current patch. Once these consoles are at the latest patch, the category will be counted as miscellaneous (with an added "unpatched" or something in the category name) and all platforms will use the current PC/Switch category for their times. Just so that noone is confused :D
With the current 100% categories, there is a bit of an ambiguity, as the ingame percentage tracker only includes everything shown on the pause screen. So buying health and mana upgrades as well as collecting bottles is not necessary to reach a 100% completion when it comes to the game's own programming.
I therefore have two proposals for the moderators:
-
Change the ruleset of the 100% category to "finish the game with a 100% game file, game file must be shown at the end of the run". That would mean that al current runs are rather obsolete, because they are way longer than they need to be, but future runs will be much more enjoyable, because there is no money grind.
-
Rename the current 100% category to "True 100%" or something like that and create a new category "100%" or "Ingame 100%". That way the already existing runs have their own category and completionists can still run that, but there will be no confusion because of the 100% game file that would not be enough for the current category.
What do you guys 'n' girls think?
Using cheat codes is usually not allowed in any speedrun, which is why it's not specifically banned in the rules. At least that's my take on it. For some games it may be added in the rule set, but I've never seen a speedrun use cheats, so it's basically a commonly agreed upon ground rule for every game.
So I just managed to squeeze some time in to time my routes "fast vs money grind". I played about equally badly in both, so the comparisons should work. I left out 2-2 and 4-1, because you pretty much always get the same amount of coins and I don't think they yield more money than other stages.
So by my calculations (as I expected before), 3-2 is the best stage for money grinding. What's interesting however is that the average amount of money per second is only marginally higher when grinding for it. so some areas that are out of the way (like the one at the 3rd checkpoint (I think) where you need to shoot a blue target to ascend to the top left for some enemies and 2 money chests).
My spreadsheet with all the data can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1sZJqUBeFPRcjHk9o1zLtdHNRFAeyKdHzQitTlXY7FXA/edit?usp=sharing
I timed all stages from stage select until I hit the catapult (so the "money wheel" is not included, but that always takes the same time if you Stomp the catapult, so it doesn't really matter).
Yeah that's pretty much what I get to as well. Usually after buying everything but the last two hearts I'm around 7000 to 7500 gold short. As soon as I got time for it (with all the great runs at the ESA Summer event that I'm currently attending, it's hard to squeeze time in) I wanted to time all non-autoscrollers for a quick run through and a money collecting one. And then check what the time and money differences are (roughly). Maybe that will shed some light as to which stage to best farm in.
The money route is also my biggest problem for the 100% categories. It's really not the most enjoyable thing to run multiple times through a level just to collect money. Up until now I went for what felt like the right choices, but maybe we really should work out the most "optimal" route.
