Whoa was not aware of so many Defender-Runners - cool.
I also did two runs for this game (100%) and (Any%) on my Amiga-Emulator. Both Version (NES % Amiga) seems to differ to much to be placed on the same Leaderboard in my opinion, so I wanted to ask, if you can extend the Leaderboard for additional Versions of this great game. If not I am of course also fine with being put in the current Leaderboard. You can check out my Any% here (100% seems not to be a thing here)
Thx & Cheers
Hi all,
so the Amiga version does not have the option to speed the game up, so only normal speed was possible. I was able to get a decent time, but of course its far from the other records. I just wanted to ask if we can make another category for this version to cover this up. If for whatever reason not, I am also fine with beeing put in the current leaderboard :)
You can check out my run here:
Cheers
Hi all,
so Warlords 2 is full of different scenarios to run. If anybody did a run of any of the scenarios included in this game, please just request your scenario in this thread in order to create a new category for that.
Thanks
Hi,
I have not much experience with speedrunning (or playing) this game. So if anyone want to help to figure out the categorie, Rules etc, just tell me here :)
These are the current Rules & Settings for running Warlords: They are of course open for discussion
Rules for Warlords 51%
- Difficulty (your choice - I recommend Knight)
- Human Players = 1
- AI-Players = 7
- All runs have to be saveless runs
- Timer starts = Clicking on O.K.
- Timer stops = Accepting Peace-Offer
Winning condition: Capture more then 50% of all Strongholds. In general you need 41 of 80 Strongholds to win.
Optional: Please also capture your end statistics after you accepted the surrender of your opponents to keep track of the overall turns you needed to win - a not must.
Hi,
check out the resources to download the fullversion of the game. It runs perfect on Win10, just unzip it, start it and enjoy it :)
Well this great game also offers the options to play some sweet random maps, so I have created its own Leaderboard for Random Maps. Lets see which one will be the fastest :)
Game Settings:
Just set your random map to these options and then proceed like always.
Have fun
Hi,
I will post some basic rules in the next days, but I dont want to decide everything on my own.
This thread is suppossed to figure out which Rules and especially which Settings would be the best.
So you can help me out if you will.
Hi all,
some weeks ago I was running this game on my Amiga Emulator (WiUAE), after beating it in a decent time I was comparing it with the runs submitted at this site. Well even if I dont utilize the short warps by killing myself, my time is faster then the current WR. The biggest difference is in the Level transitions which are way faster in my run. We are not sure but this seems to be the case that I am using a A1200 to run this game and thats why it is so fast. Is there a general basic setup we should use to play this game? Or is my run legit? You can check it out here:
Btw: I am not able yet to get my version of the game to run on a A500 to test this, lets see if this is really the reason.
Hi,
Some puzzles can be solved in different ways, there are not so many I am aware of but anyway here are my findings:
Part 01:
How to talk down Stan:
The price for the ship can go up or down, depending on your dialog choices.
The ship is always worth 10000 pieces of eight, we just need to get it under 7000 to have a deal.
If you: Refuse an extra = - 450 (6 times). The first extra does not substract 450 so there are 6 extras left we dont need, so we can substract 2700 pieces of eight in total.
Go away: You can walk away from Stan to lower the price: 1st time = - 1000 2nd time = - 500 3rd time = - 100 4th time = conversation ends
Make an offer So if you go up an raise our offer this will substract 500 but if we go down this will add half the amount between the last two offers: I.E. Offer 5000 then offer 2000 = + 1500 Offer 4000 then offer 2000 = + 1000 Offer 3000 then offer 2000 = + 500
So this is in my opinion the fastest way to get the Sea Monkey: The first offer you make always substract nothing from the original price, but we have to start somewhere so lets go with 2000. Now we can offer him 3000 (price = 9500), then 4000 (price = 9000), then 5000 (price = 8500), then we leave two times (price = 7000), then we offer 5000 again an voila its yours. (Maybe refusing some extras would also work, but I cant skip dialog in the floppy version I was testing this with, so someone else can check if there is a faster way on PC) You can start the video below to see this strat in action :)
Fun Fact: You can lower the price so much that you can get it for 4000 :)
Part 2:
Burning and cooking:
Here you can burn several items and also throw a lot of these items in to the cooking pot - but it dont think there is a real "fastest" method:
Getting flaming mass:
- Dusty old book
- Feather pen
- Business Card
- 1000% Cotton T-Shirt
- T-Shirt
- Map
Yeah you can sorta drop some items by just burning them all, but most of them are gone after you get to Part 3...so burn whatever you want to.
You can also throw all of these items into the cooking-pot except of the Map (so no Deadend possible, you can always get the flamming mass)
Part 3:
Blowing up the dam:
One of my favorite puzzles, just because it was so awesome to find out as a kid oyu can solve this in a lot of different ways:
So what can you do:
- Open the spyglass and use the lense with the sun
- Get the Rock (if you look at it its flint) The Rock works with every steel item so we can use the following items:
- Spyglass
- Canonball
- Magnetic Compass
- Stable Remover
So the fastes solutions would be to not get the canonball and the spyglass at the fort and just use the compass or stapel remover to blow up the dam. We should avoid spending to much time in the fort to not meet Herman and have to talk to him, so gettting only the rope and the gunpowder would be best.
Alright thats all I am aware of are there more of these kind of puzzles?
Hi Guys and Girls,
I have just finished my run of TSOMI on my Amiga emulator.
You maybe aware that there are some differences in both versions. Like:
- Not skipable Dialog (but you can speed up the Textmessages)
- CD-Version runs and loads a bit faster (have to check out the whdload version)
- Speedglitch idk I cant activate it (maybe it does not work here)
- Different Ending ?
https://tcrf.net/The_Secret_of_Monkey_Island_(DOS)
Is it possible (and does it make sense) to split the Leaderboard into CD-Version and Floppy Version? If the differences are to minor of course I am also happy to be ranked in the current leaderboard.
You can check out my run here:
I am using WinUAE for emulation and using floppy disc images.
Pretty sure I can squeeze out some more minutes.
Have fun
Hi Guys and Girls,
I was running the game for fun on my Amiga Emulator. Now I just wanted to submit my run, but in the description it says "Emulators are banned".
Well so there is no chance for me to submit my run unless I perfom it on original Amiga-Hardware (dunno how that should work)?
I could not speed up the game like in the Dos version (there are just no options available on Amiga, so it will always be slower) so maybe we can seperate the Categories by plattform?
Any% Amiga i.e.
Of course I am also okay if youjust reject my run, because itson emulator.
You can check it out here:
Thx
Hi,
I have completed a run today with my Amiga Emulator. Time is round about 1h 7m, have to edit the video on the weekend. Used WinUAE and emulated a standard A1200. WHDLoad Version was installed on my Harddrive.
I noticed that it is possible to pratically teleport in this game; I tried to reproduce this trick but it did not work. (tried it in the basement and the jungle)
So you just save and load in certain places and then you teleport to the exit where your cursor points to right? Is it possible that you only can perform this on Dos?
If so wouldn't it make sense to seperate the runs via plattform, because the game works on both plattforms so different? But I can also live with a 2nd place of course :)
Anyway Glad to played this game a really good Adventure.
Hi,
just want to make this Thread so we can collect all the bugs and glitsches you can discover while playing Loom.
So here is the first one:
Yes its lame and yes it does not affect your time in a speedrun, but this glitsch proves us wrong, because we thought there were none.
I am using the Amiga v1.2 (EGA) on WinUAE (Emulator), I am sure you can do this also on Dos.
So are there more?
Spoiler: Yes there are ;)

Hi all,
I was noticing that this game is listed for the Amiga so it got my attention. But I was checking the rules and there is written that we need to run the CD-Version + ScummVM. Well that rule does not really apply to the Amiga, so what can we do? Can I still stick to the Amiga or do I have to go for ScummVM. I think the main difference about both games would be the voice samples.
Thanks
Hi guys and girls,
Soon or later this toic will pop up (like now), so lets talk about it.
In general I do runs for Amiga games, so I was checking my few options to chose from and picked up Loom (last time played early 90s).
After not breaking the 30min wall, I was watching the other runs and I noticed that the content does differ (mostly dialog). So I was investigating about this and found out that there are two version of this game available and that they indeed differ from each other. Source: https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=802320
Most of this does not really matter, for Speedrunning the game, but the thing is:
- A refresher for both versions.
EGA Standard Any% (my run)
VGA Standard Any% (firefyte)
- Differences: a) Load Times Well I did some changes in the settings and I could achieve nearly as fast load times as the VGA. i.E.: After lightning struck the tree (for me this does not really matter just to mention it, maybe with more optimize settings mine would be faster dunno)
b) Dialog There are three times (EGA) where you cant skip the dialog. ba) Talking to the 4 shepards bb) Talking to the woman who watches the lamb bc) Listening to the conversation between Mandibel and this swordsmith dude.
You cant skip those, because the player either learns a draft(Ninja) and (Heal) or you have to use a draft (cursing the sword). So it makes sense you cant skip them.
On VGA you can pretty soon walk away from the shepards, on the Amiga you have to listen to their stuff. I am also sure the dialog in the cabine with the lady shepard is a bit shorter on VGA. Not sure about the dialog in the castle.
c) Positioning Rusty is sleeping in different locations
d) Options I've noticed that there is an option to increase speed on VGA and reduce the Animation (For me its kinda looks faster then on EGA) On the other hand you can speed up the dialog on the EGA so the unskipable content will soon be over. Not sure if you can do this on Dos due to voicesamples.
e) Closing the rifts You only have to heal Rusty when you exploring the rifts, you dont have to talk the this glassmaker and you dont have to heal the shepards (serves them right) you can just leave and close the rift. This also makes sense: If I recall correctly there should be a Part 2 (with Rusty) a Part 3 (with lady shepard) and maybe more. So Part 2 only works when you heal Rusty, so must have. The Lady Shepard is still alive so she is fine for Part 3 and the glassmaker dies anyway. BUT: I am not sure how this works on VGA.
Conclusion: So these are my oberservations and I am not sure which version is faster. I was able to run low 26 and maybe can beat 25 wall. But there are also Dos runs mid 25 so its a close call. So what do you think different categories or all runs in the same category?
Personal Note: I just played this game as a kid and didnt like it, looked memorable but at this time to boring, Replaying it as an adult and investing some time into this I really have to say what a great game this is. Well written and crafted, unique gameplay mechanics, creative artwork, interresting lore and so on. Also it does not become a No-Brainer after some playthroughs thanks to some rng - Pen & Paper recommended.
