This is something I've been considering as well, though I don't know if anyone with a PC capable of getting >60 FPS in the Garden has timed themselves doing an IL to see how much it would save over Grimoire of Storms strats. (I'm imagining even one failed pull already makes it slower than both GoS and Sword routes.) Saying this since the current route doesn't stop at any merchant in Thirdborn anymore outside the cookie guy, and buying Grimoire of Entropy is about a 10s timeloss (on top of another second or so it would take to equip it at some point, plus for the extra Grimoire passive point you'd need since GoS only needs two points). If first try PoE kills on the Maegfolc were to net you a sub 2 min Garden, then I'd argue it's still a problem. (For reference, my current gold with GoS strats is 2:13 and I feel like that's pretty optimized; Eric's is 2:16 according to his last VOD.)
That said, I honestly think the easiest solution at this point is to just do a blanket ban for PoE across all categories since I don't think anyone wants to fuck with it at all due to how boring and random it is, and because if a longer category is eventually introduced like All Side Quests, All Bosses, etc., it would definitely overtake everything as the most optimal route. An awkward rule to have, especially considering there's tech like dodge boosting and some skips like power attacking up the wall slope with the axe for Assassination Skip that are also reliant to a degree on high FPS, but I'd say those are nowhere near as problematic as PoE in the game's current state. Willing to hear what more people have to say about that, though, but in my experience the run has undeniably become a thousand times more enjoyable since PoE became obsolete for Any%.
As Legacy noted, the Hot Dogger was allowed to be used back when the game came out and the boards established as the category with only the base knife was seen as too long and tedious.
Adding a separate category for just the base knife just doesn't make much sense since it's essentially the same as current Knife Only, but much, much slower. Knife Only for this game (and most RE runs) is already a pretty niche category, and adding a separate one that even less people would run would just clutter the board. Feel free to run it on the side, however!

Install the Plugin Manager and the various plugins for RE3R, then under User Interfaces install Resident Evil 3 Remake (Winforms). If you launch it correctly it should launch the legacy SRT, the only difference being the unfortunate exclusion of thousandths of a second.
Sorry for a late follow-up response, fellas! Busy with holiday stuff.
The idea of forcing a pause at the beginning of the run seems like it could work, and like Salad said, it doesn't really matter what the time at the typewriter is specifically, but it's key that a pause is forced at the very beginning of the run and would have to be enforced pretty strictly (even going past the item box without pausing would be a reject IMO).
That said I also share the concerns with Silky in that tenths of a second DO matter. Just look at what happened last week with me and Minotaur being tied in No Intro Standard on PC--even a fraction of a second matters very much when the game is that optimized. Now on the other hand I don't think any console category is as optimized as NIS on PC, nor will it ever be, but I can see it being a controversial issue in the future if let's say, a WR was potentially decided by it.
I don't run console so I don't have a horse in this race, but I still care about leaderboards being as accurate as possible, so this one is up to the console runners on if you want to carry the baggage on that or not, since at the end of the day we're all just trying to have a good time and the Intro very quickly makes this game not fun. We'll try to talk more about this throughout the week and the next since it's a busy time, and I encourage everyone to keep discussing (just keep it civil, please).
This is something we've thought over, but unfortunately, as Silky has said, with runs being timed via IGT and there being no way to manipulate it on console as there's no trainer, makes setting up such a category in a way that's fair to everyone (and even more importantly, accurate) pretty much impossible.
I'm open to suggestions but the only viable way I can think of setting up such a category would be to time the category via RTA, which opens up a whole new net of issues, namely:
- This would require console runners to stream their runs via capture card on a PC, in which case playing on said PC is a much simpler solution.
- This would make the run vastly more pay to win than it is right now.
Feel free to add if you have ideas.
You might have made a mistake on your part. This has been tested thoroughly and there is no bug where the game will give you a vaccine with only one of the ingredients.
Also general rule of thumb is that if you find a potential glitch/exploit/skip, it's your job to replicate it and record a video demonstrating it rather than telling others to do so.
No Merchant is already a category on this board.
The closest thing we have to 100% is All Treasures on our Category Extensions board.
No Damage and No Kill/Pacifist are more so challenge runs rather than speedruns, as they require strats that are often very slow and antithetical to speedrunning. While you can run them on your own if you'd like, we're not planning on adding them to our CE page.
If this were a thing it would need to be its own game page, with its own set of rules and mods. No reason to tie it with this game when they're completely different entities.
Unlocking this thread momentarily to update everyone:
The leaderboards have been updated to include No Intro as a subcategory under PC categories. I haven't finished everything and rules still need to be updated and so on but you can start submitting runs now if you'd like. Also made a new video that I added under guides which thoroughly explains the setup if you wanna hop in on it and need help. Thank you all again for participating and for your guys' patience. We'll make more changes and additions to the boards as time goes on as we see fit.
The results for the votes are in:
-The YES vote for the category being made has won with 67 out of 73 votes.
-The YES vote for mods being allowed in a No Intro category have won by 54 out of 73 votes.
Thank you to everyone who participated. We'll be updating the boards throughout the week and finalizing all rules.
Happy running, everyone.
Just a reminder everyone! Voting for No Intro ends in 3 days, so if you haven't voted yet please do so ASAP. I'll be posting the results on both here and the discord. Have a good weekend everyone.
Hey guys,
After some extensive debate, we've decided to open up a vote for a potential "No Intro" category. This category, using an edited save file you make on your own, would start the run at the subway typewriter with your IGT set to 0.
See my video on how to set up said save file using the trainer, it's very easy to do:
With this new category come some ground rules, namely:
- Inventory must be set up in a specific way for each category.
- SRT or Overlay must be displayed at ALL TIMES. Livesplit can be ran on the side but does not substitute the former.
- Your save must be made properly in order to avoid bugging the enemy AI outside the subway. Follow the video exactly in making your saves.
More extensive rules going into detail have already been written down but will be publically posted if the vote is a success. The usual rules from the main game categories such as an FPS cap and two minute limits being enforced for pauses will still be in effect for this category.
And finally, we're also putting to a vote the legality of visual mods for use in runs of this specific category. If a success, we will allow COSMETIC ONLY mods to be used in No Intro runs (any mods that break ToS or make gameplay related changes are universally banned).
To explain the reasoning on why we're only allowing visual mods for this category: we want this category if it goes through to be the "non-vanilla" category where we're more relaxed on some rules, while the full game category we've been running up until now is the true, vanilla category. The latter will still be considered the main category of the game, but No Intro will be there as a viable alternative for those who want a shorter run and don't want to have to deal with the various autoscrollers at the beginning of the run.
And finally, to address it, this is unfortunately only being considered for PC due to the use of the trainer.

This is bound to be a divisive and controversial decision either way, so while some people might be heated on one side or another, we ask that everyone be respectful of one another; we're all friends at the end of the day.
Happy running everyone!
Voting will end on March 23rd at 7pm PST.
3/12/21 UPDATE FOR NIGHTMARE AND INFERNO:
What you're describing is the New Game+ category, which is one of the main categories listed on our board. Like other NG+ categories for other games, it allows you to use whatever post-game items you want, including the infinite rocket launcher and assault rifle (though optimally, only the rocket launcher is ever used since there's no need for the AR).
Hope that answers your question.
Unless your run is WR, just a photo of the final typewriter save made after you finish your run will suffice. If it is WR, we will need a VOD of the run, which may be recorded on a phone facing your screen, so long as we can see the entire screen clearly enough.
Also should note that ALL No Merchant and Assignment Ada runs require a VOD.
No. :)
(Also if we see people making obviously fake, sockpuppet accounts in order to upvote themselves then they will be blacklisted from the community.)
