Don't see your point @lelreset. Of course it would still be there if this didn't turn into such a big deal. I just thought it was a good chance to do a change like that. I didn't even need that GTA3 analogy anyway, it just doesn't make sense to exclude some missions cause they're not "typical" ones.
If so many people are averse to the idea of making the SA leaderboards have reasonable categories (including dupeless and actual all missions) then I guess I don't have to do it. As I said, ASM is staying until later, whenever people decide it's a good time to add All Missions instead, or not.
If there's to be an All Missions category it should just be All Missions. ASM doesn't fulfill this. It's like if GTA3 had an All Missions category that specifically excluded the offroad missions. I don't view ASM as a real all missions category, but some sort of wrong solution to this very issue (wanting no dupes) from two years ago. That's my issue with having this and ASM on the same board. Of course, ASM has been somewhat established for a while now, but that's no excuse to fix the board up.
Making the change at 7 PM EDT. Unless I'm given a good argument against replacing ASM with this, don't bother posting.
Wrote out some guidelines.
- Category name: Any% (No onmission Flag Manipulation)
- Rules: Same as Any% with a note on the bottom saying "Any glitch that affects the onmission flag is forbidden. This includes mission duplication."
- Runs: Every Any% run that exists that fits the rules should be added, past or present. Runs should not be in two places and the pre-duping runs better fit this category, even if at the time it was the normal Any% route.
The name can still be referred to as dupeless; nothing's stopping you. However, the name and rules can't simply be "Any% Dupeless" and the rules being "no duping" because people's ideas of duping extend beyond what duping is, e.g., gang territories skip. If there are issues with what I wrote here in terms of the name or rules, then they can be ironed out.
Also, this category cannot coexist with All Story Missions. People wanted ASM as a way to run the game without dealing with dupes anyway. The name/rules are somewhat inconsistent, and I get the feeling people would far prefer this anyway, if given a choice. If this category is added, All Story Missions is going straight to GTAMemes (or the trash can).
The only reason VC has an Any% split is because of the extent of SSU's effect on the run. You don't see dupeless for VC All Missions or for 100% either. The only way SA Any% is getting a similar split is if someone finds a glitch that totally upends the run to a similar degree that SSU did, and even then the "No SSU" would just be what Any% is now.
Personally, I think the run is far more tolerable without dupes, but I don't think that warrants a category split yet.
It generally goes without saying that cheats aren't allowed. But yeah, no cheating.
I just deleted a bunch of trash off of here, sort of what cooller said. There's probably more hidden in some decent threads that I haven't seen but let me know if there's anything that needs to be policed. I locked all of the threads that Josh linked as bad examples rather than deleting because hopefully people will see one of these examples and think something along the lines of "this guy stole the words out of my mouth! oh wait, I probably shouldn't post about it here then!"
Also stickied what was a reply by S to a category suggestion because it gets the point across that they really shouldn't be half-developed ideas, especially on the main game.
Context has been removed on accident but S's post here explains well that any suggestions for categories shouldn't be posted without thinking about it and how it'd actually fit it on here, and whether or not it's an actual good idea. All suggestions of that sort can go to https://speedrun.com/gtamemes
Yes, ever since this leaderboard has existed, original version and HD edition runs have lived side-by-side. I don't know of many differences between runs arising from the HD edition, but I don't think anything warrants split categories.
go into your bios and find a setting that changes the function keys to actually input F1, F2, F3 etc. without the need of Fn instead of the media keys. the name of the setting would depend on the bios you got but it should be there
didn't even say why, shaking my dang head
I don't vouch for allowing external limiters as it stands now, lev
Post videos of you taking off in a VCN Helicopter (holding W) with closing the door, and a rough approximation of your framerate uncapped + your CPU and GPU. I used dxtory to see my framerate but it wasn't captured, but ideally framerate would be shown.
e.g.: Approximately 100-120 fps. Intel Core i7-2600, GTX 650.
I never really cared about the community consensus to ban turning off the frame limiter and just adhered to it. However, in the past year I've begun taking the opposite stance and today some conversation between some of us runners has arisen again on the topic, so may as well see what people think now, and how big of an advantage one's system specs would give if this rule were removed. This, as far as I know, was the single reason as to why the rule existed to begin with, but we may as well see the actual difference for ourselves.
edit: I'm wrong, 100 fps compared to 300 fps is a bigger difference in gameplay than I figured, but I stand with the rest of my points.
Removing this rule would bring new routing opportunities to the three major categories (aka faster), with all the pros and cons of having frame limiter on or off. Off, and your game will crash more often and behave more unpredictably (to us) with regards to physics, with faster heli takeoffs and slower boat movement and whatever else. On, and everything is normal, with slower heli takeoffs and whatever else. It's definitely worth more exploration. Besides, we allow using ramdisks and SSDs to improve load times, so complaining about pay to win is not a valid argument.

Seems to only load them all when you're signed in but everyone should have a Google account anyway. Dropbox still whines at me for having too much traffic when I haven't linked anything on there for years so this is the way to do it I guess.
Hotel distance was bad; I wasn't residing in one this time around but it was pretty annoying when going to room parties. I don't think there's anything that can be done though, since the Fortnox Arena is so good for its price and size afaik.
The hosts could've been less accepting about which donations to read. During one of the runs I commentated, there was a meme going on with the donations, which is usually fine (hell, it's coming from Twitch chat), but it was getting out of hand and the hosts felt obliged to read them I guess. I also read complaints about other issues with various hosts on Twitter, so maybe there could be some more "host training" or something for next year. Not putting the blame on any particular people, but just something that should be improved upon.
Burger King delivery was great. I only used it once but it's one hell of a convenience. Tech was definitely an improvement on last year as well. The second stream was done really well (from what I saw) this time around, compared to ESA15. Getting its own room helped a lot. The room in general is pretty cozy too, especially cause of the kitchen in the back.
The arcades were hella fun too, while they were around. Lots of demand on Quick 'n' Crash so I didn't spend much time on that, but I got some quality time on Daytona USA.
All in all, an event well done. Good work, organizers/volunteers.
No new category imo. If people want a run without this then they can do ASL. I don't think this is big enough to warrant another any% offshoot since it probably won't just be doing wharf district 7 times or whatever cause of it being slow.
I never ran ASL but banning main menu storage seems kinda redundant since you'd have to do all the story levels anyway. May as well allow it for skipping them cutscenes.
